- Inspired by the original Filet-O-Fish, our Fried Cod Fish Sandwich is crispy, tender, and tangy in every bite. With a large filet of crispy fried cod, this fish sandwich is topped with homemade tartar, a half slice of American cheese, and a steamed bun. It’s just like the classic McDonald's version but only better, in our opinion.

Haddock works very well for fish burgers too.😊
Good call! Yes it does.
A couple years ago I upped my game on home made Egg McMuffins. I get the butter in the pan and get the egg going. I use the spatula to control the spread and get it the size of a McMuffin. I do a controlled yolk pop and spread the yolk pretty well around the middle. Just before the egg flip, I dash some salt and fresh pepper onto the egg so it cooks right in.
Once I egg flip, I toast that McMuffin. I add it to the pan, open face down, and let it soak up the extra butter in the pan so it gets butter crunchy.
When it's ready I assemble it with a full slice of real cheddar (sharp) and a Canadian bacon top and bottom.
It's about 5 times better than the McDonald's version.
That thumbnail shot actually has my mouth watering. In my mind I cannot think of many items that look better than that. Gonna give it a go. And that tip to steam the buns is brilliant! Thanks! 🤙🏽
The original Fillet-O-Fish from the late 70's had full slice of cheese and large bun. Ronald lived near by and would show up for kid's birthday. He was a national treasure.
Was it fried in beef fat like the original French fries?
Thanks for posting looks delicious!
Thanks! Give it a try and let us know what you think.
i Started my own cooking channel a few months ago. I just found your video while doing some research. love the video. I subscribed and look forward to more videos.
Thanks so much! More to come
Simple, delish. Love me a lighter batter for frying fish, you can always add more of the batter for extra layers of crunch. No hate, but the music could be notched down just a squish. Don't hide that voice.
Always appreciate the feedback. Thanks for taking the time to let us know✌🏼
Minced fish, good breading, onion salt, lemon, vinegar marinade, sea salt, a cocktail fry sauce, a short but high frying temperature for a good crisp without tough meat, sweet and sour pickle relish in the tartar sauce im good with a cocktail-tartar fry sauce, dill weed too!!
Looks really delicious! I love fish sandwiches 😋
Thank you. It's our favorite way to enjoy fish.
Wow!
I live in the desert southwest so Atlantic Cod is hard to come by, I'll have to make due with Pacific, which is not as good I know, because I once lived in the UK.
Cod may be a challenge, but with the speed of shipping these days you may be surprised with what you can find. Any light fish works well with the sandwich.
it tastes pretty good thx lad
Thank you!
Beautiful sharing dear friend 😉👑
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks great champ 👍
Thank you!
Wow. Now if I can find someone to make it for me.😬
That looks delicious!
Thank you! It definitely is 😉
That made my mouth water 🎉😊
So good
Looks very good. Without the cheese i would 100%😅😅
LOL... the cheese is keeping it in line with McDonald's Filet-o-fish, which this recipe is inspired from. 😉
Yes! The peanut oil is awesome unless you have allergies. I do NOT and will be using this recipe tomorrow for dinner!
Absolutely! I can relate as my brother has a nut allergy. The peanut oil can certainly be switched out for an oil that is more appropriate to specific diet needs and allergies. I hope you enjoy!
Regular refined peanut oil used for frying is NOT an allergen! You can look it up, it's fine and have confirmed with a highly peanut-allergic relative. My high-temp oil of choice, very neutral, doesn't add peanut flavor.
@@chef.souschef Peanut Oil is the ONLY one I purchase; besides Avocado Oil Cooking Spray 🥜🥑🧑🏾🍳👌🏾💯🙏🏾🍓
Fish and cheese, not my dream date. However, great recipe.
Haha! Thanks!
Thank you for uploading this video clip looks awesome 😋Florida USA 😊Rainbow 🌈Chef 😊🙏🙏👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching
AMAZING THANKS YOU GOODNESS 🌟 DAPHNE COTTON ALWAYS 💜 AWESOME
I do this at home with leftover fried fish that I re-heat for sandwiches. Only difference is I like some lettuce on mine for color and texture.
Sounds good and slightly healthier ;)
Dill is used in the sauce ;)
I am experiencing real greedy vibes 😂
How hot was the frying oil?
375 degrees is the optimal temperature but between 360-385 is good
OMG! 😳😋😋😋 I woulda added some lettuce, tomato and top it up with some caviar!!
Ohhh sounds delicious
You had my attention UNTIL you stated “Caviar”! 🤢🚫👎🏾😬😡💯🙏🏾😇🍓

A McDonalds employee _invented_ Atlantic cod??
I think you misheard... it's the Filet-o-fish they invented.
I'm sorry but I don't understand cheese on a fish sandwich. What other fish recipe do you use cheese?... Ok, maybe tacos, but that's not sliced American cheese.
I agree, it's a rare find to see fish with cheese. This recipe is inspired by McDonald's Filet-o-Fish which has half a slice of cheese on it, which is what we did here. We discuss this more in our blog post about the recipe, but essentially when Ray Kroc introduced the sandwich in the 60's one of the workers who created always put cheese on it so Ray Kroc decided to put it on the menu with the cheese.
Cheese on fish sticks is the bomb! When I don't have tartar sauce for fish sticks, I do use cheese. On the filet-o-fish - it makes the sandwich. OTH, making a fresh fish sandwich - probably wouldn't add the cheese.
The original idea was originally to have something comparable to a burger back when Catholics didn't eat meat on Fridays. Ray Kroc couldn't see losing that business.
Looked tasty, the plastic cheese is overkill not needed and would help keep the fat content down would be better with some lettuce/tomatoe
Bu this is all about McDonalds style. No one goes there to eat healthy food.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Looks lovely in the thumbnail except that gross looking bit of unmelted fake cheese but I suppose you were going for the McDonald’s clone soooo
lol… I hear ya.
If you're going to compare this to McDonald's it looks nothing like it regardless of how it tastes. I have yet to see a video of someone posting saying its like the Filet O fish. Nobody yet has posted a video that even comes close to McDonald's!!!!!!!!
You make a good point, I wonder what the price point is for these channels making higher quality Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, compared to a true copycat Filet-O-Fish

McDonald's Filet o fish is the best I've ever tasted, they really set the bar so high it's out of reach.....Just my honest opinion 😉💯👍
With a side of heart attack and a stroke chaser....😔
Everything in moderation 😎
