From Wiki- "The game is set in 2087, following a nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union. Parts of Earth have been turned into a "wasteland" where survival is the paramount objective. Players control a party of Desert Rangers, a paramilitary group based in the deserts of the Southwestern U.S. that survived the nuclear holocaust and are assigned to investigate a series of disturbances in the desert. The party begins with four characters, and through the course of the game can hold as many as seven characters by recruiting certain citizens and creatures of the wasteland to the player's cause. Throughout the game, the player explores the remaining enclaves of human civilization, including a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas.
Wasteland was a successful game, and has been included on numerous "best game" and "hall of fame" lists. Computer Gaming World Magazine awarded it the Role-Playing Game of the Year award, and ten years later in 1996, it named Wasteland the #9 computer game of all time. In its review, it cited "its ease of play, richness of plot, problem solving requirements, skill and task system, and graphic display" as elements of its excellence.
Wasteland was followed in 1990 by a less-successful intended sequel, Fountain of Dreams, set in post-war Florida. Electronic Arts got cold feet at the last moment, and did not advertise it as a sequel to Wasteland; in fact, none of the creative cast from Wasteland worked on Fountain of Dreams. Interplay has described its game Fallout as the spiritual successor to Wasteland (as evidenced by the similar setting and that an NPC in Fallout 2 frequently recites combat messages from Wasteland).
Interplay also worked on a game called Meantime for a while, which was based on the Wasteland "game engine" but was not a continuation of the story. Coding of Meantime was nearly finished and a beta version was produced, but full production of the game was canceled when the 8-bit computer game market went into decline." - Ігри
The game that started it all, Interplay wanted to make a Wasteland 2 at the time but EA owned the rights and refused because they were making a successor to this game and it bombed. So Tim Cain decided to make a post-nuclear game and Brian Fargo came up with the name Fallout.

is the JRPG review still coming?
scwt89 Yes ...i plan on playing some JRPGs in the fall or late summer
RetrospectiveGaming always love your videos retro
I appreciate the support Rudd!
RetrospectiveGaming is the next review going to be icewind dale?
One of my all-time favorites. I put about 80 hours into it despite its age.
Really surprised me how much fun a seemingly simple game can be.
Edit: Have to disagree with your stance on the combat being boring and outdated.
The gameplay in general really stuck with me, especially when I learned how to make macros with the in-game macro editor. The combat always had me on the edge of my seat when it was a tough battle that out-leveled me or just outnumbered me.
While the combat is not suited for my personal taste (its not awful tho) ... I hope ppl don't mistake it for easy ..Can't just spam attack haha ...those damn monks at the Guardian Citadel almost made me pull my hair out
RetrospectiveGaming The final levels had some really tough enemies, so many times I just wanted to give up because my whole team could be wiped out in a minute. It's ridiculous.
I feel your pain ... I got stuck in Base Cochise .... I almost gave up cause my party got fucked up so many times ...and I thought Guardian Citadel would be my last obstacle ..Vulcan cannons and Laser Hypermortars ..fuck them
Don't forget that cryptic fucking puzzle at the very end of the game... Jesus, took me hours to figure it out.
Vax was a pretty cool companion though. He's in Wasteland 2 as well.
I greatly appreciate your in depth reviews for games like these! cRPGs are definitely a hard genre to get into and having someone go over all of the details in this manner makes it much easier to choose which ones are right for myself. Keep up the great work!
today i ate sweet and spicy Doritos and had a cherry Slurpie

Akemi Homura Now I want some cool ranch Doritos!

Hey Solid thanks for watching ...that is awesome to hear that this game taught you English ..video games are useful! I appreciate you sticking around brother ..always happy to entertain!
I played the hell out of this one back in the day on the commadore 64. 4 5 1/4 floppy disks lol
RetrospectiveGaming. What are your thoughts on the Desert Rangers both in the wasteland game series and Fallout New vegas
You should review Wasteland 2 next :)
And then maybe Wasteland 3.
Going to try this one day, looks difficult but I'll at least try... usually the games where you have to persevere are the best(like the first time I played Fallout 1+2).
I remember the first time I played F1 and F2 ...good times!
Is there a website that shows you how to use the hot keys and the interface?
I've been waiting for this one!
:) enjoy
Great review ;) and yeah I'm having a hard time with the controls too xD
:) learn as many of the hotkeys as possible ..it saves your life
"Kill this kill that kill rats and stuff like that" hey that rhymed
Great review Che.

A tad too outdated for me but I appreciated what it has done for the game industry! :)
My Godmother Bought Me The Remastered Version Of This Game So Now I Own Wasteland 1: Remastered,Wasteland 2 & Wasteland 3.
You should do a review of wasteland 2!
Love your videos man
Thanks Zorro!
The game received a very high-quality remaster, greatly updating the visual
This game looks really good but I feel like I won't be able to get into it because it looks fairly outdated, I can barely even get into TES Daggerfall so I'm doubtful of this one. But good review as usual RG.
great review.
I dont know if youve tried wasteland 2 but its a pretty solid crpg.
oooo boi im gonna enjoy this.
Hell yeah! :)
Its cool that u reviewed this game but, why didnt u review wasteland 2? I mean ive watched reviews of WL2 but none wich id trust nearly as good as ur opinions.
I will be reviewing the game soon ..just have to catch up on some reviews I promise .. I do have the game tho! .. I appreciate your trust in me
I ones spended 15 min to figure out how to drop stuff out of my inventory. After i figured it out i just ''fuck it'' and quit, gotta love 80 games.
Yup ...its great to learn about them but sometimes but sometimes its tough to play them
What a interesting review brother :) .
Thanks Joseph!
I played the 2nd Wasteland game it was pukka
Wasteland herpes. Nice.
A lesson to all ...use condoms when messing around with a mutated person!
Yesterday I Bought Wasteland 2. Since I Never Got The Chance To Play Wasteland 1.
I had this game in 1990. It had 4 seperate floppy discks so it was pretty big for the time. Games like Ultima were only 3 disks. That's the 1st yr. I had sex too. Peace.
was it good?
Great game, but is too old school for me. But i'll give a try, have a nice weekend my friend.
As always ...thanks for watching Diogo!
is wasteland a prequel to fallout?
Mr Ollie No, Fallout is a sort of sequel to Wasteland.
Mr Ollie Fallout is a spiritual successor
Mr Neptune Wasteland is a spiritual successor to Fallout?
To be fair development for Fallout (at least the engine) was started by Tim Cain in 1994 and the game was released in 1997 (3 years of development), but Wasteland's development was started by Brian Fargo in 1983 and ended in 1988 (5 years of development). Both games are very old and Wasteland's schedule started right at the time when the Atari 5200 was being shipped D:
I would seem like a new vegas prequel
How do you even can play a game with these kind of graphics ? Holly shit.
I always wanted Fallout or Wasteland games about russia/europe or even australia with their own "flavor" : npcs, factions, buildings, storylines and so one.To see post-apocalypse from a different angle
This might be what you are looking for store.steampowered.com/app/552620/agecheck
Простофиля ТВ ATOM RPG is your game
You should review the fallout 4 dlc next *nudges*
Fuck FO4, it's just a FPS game with a Fallout paintjob and not a good one at that. Fallout is meant to be an RPG but the fuckers at Bethesda gutted that and developed a shooter for casual players. The storyline is pitifully simplistic and the writing itself was godawful, not to mention adding a voiced protagonist to speak the lame writing. FO4 is the first FO game I have no desire to play ever again.
Ahahahah :)
as much as i love Fallout 1 and 2, it was almost impossible for me to enjoy Wasteland. The game is much too outdated from all pov, and i could not keep my interest on it long enough. And that is coming from someone who still plays ASCII / tilesets games even nowadays.
looks like a master system game
I tried to play Wasteland and it was to old. And I play alot of old games. The Wasteland remaster comes out next month.
Nothing SPECIAL. I almost LOLled...
Peter Knutsen I see what you did there
One of my complaints for this game is the humour.... it's really too much, there's literally a joke every 3 minutes... if it was a bit more serious it would be better.... for the rest it's a good game considering it came out in 1988, I'm still trying to understand all the commands though...
