No other artist has brought a song like this one. She represents the tortured soul we all have in our lives at one time or another. She shows her very soul in this song. Prince may have written it, but the Holy Spirit meant it for Sinead.
This song makes me bawl like a baby. It's like you're just watching a grieving human being that you want to reach out and hug, not a pop star. She did us all a big service making this song so relatable. She told Dr. Phil on her interview that it is actually about her traumatic relationship with her mother, who abused her and died in a car crash.
the song isn't about her mother she used the emotional pain of her mother to access the emotion needed for the song ,the song is about the meaning for a lover who has left and is never coming back ,the yearn ,the agony and the helpless hope
Sinead recorded this a few weeks after her mother died in a car accident - she sheds a tear in the video shortly after she mentions Mammas flowers - as she remembers her...! I believe this was recorded in a single take - the raw pain and emotions are real....! RIP Sinead - your Heart & Soul live forever in your music - thank you...!
no its not about her mother ...she used the pain of loosing her mother as. away to acmes the emotion needed for the lyrics and song, the song was written by prince about loosing a lover who does t want you back ,they yearn and helplessness of grief
@@keidwyn I never said the song was about her mother but only that she remembers her mother at that part in the song - and I'm aware that it was Prince who wrote it - but never himself released it - this is Sineads adaptation of it...!
After her son sadly took his own life 18 months ago i knew that was it for her she'd struggled for all of her life but the weight of her sons passing was just too much. RIP sinead 🙏🏼
Sinead...we miss her! Many Tributes paid to her in Ireland, also in my hometown in the irish country side...Street party and people belting out this song in her memory!RIP Sinead, you were a Trailblazer and we will be so much poorer without you.😢Thanks for the reaction, man, she deserves it all!
Sinead ("shin - ed") O'Connor was born in Ireland... her mom was allegedly psychotic and physically abusive to Sinead as a child. She left her mom to live w/ her father in the USA at 13, but found herself getting in trouble as a teen and spent 18 months in an asylum. When she was 18, her mom died in a car crash. Sinead started singing as a teen and was signed in the 80's... her first album 'The Lion and the Cobra' was unlike any pop record at the time and sold gold... She also shaved her head because she rejected the music industry's image of 'beauty'. Her 2nd album in 1990 ("I do not want what I haven't got") was a huge hit... the single "Nothing compares 2 U" was written by Prince (yes, him!) became a massive hit... She also contributed vocals to Peter Gabriel's album 'Us' in 1992. However, Sinead O'Connor became a target of ire in 1992 when she appeared on 'SNL' and tore up a photo of the Pope to protest the Catholic church's protection of their clergy who were victimizing and exploiting children. She was mocked, ridiculed and shunned in America for years... until widespread sexual abuse perpetrated by the Catholic church were exposed by 2001. Even the Pope apologized to the victims of his clergy who participated and covered up the abuses. It was inconceivable that a religious institution like the church would be the epicenter of such monstrous activities... Sinead spoke the truth and was vilified & ridiculed for it... but she was vindicated in the end. Sinead O' Connor's later albums sold decently, but her music was overshadowed by her tumultuous personal life - mental illness, breakdowns and episodes... 4 failed marriages and infidelity... four children w/ 4 different fathers... controversy over her views... She alleged that Price assaulted her w/ a pillow after he was upset w/ her. Sinead was working on a new album and tour, when her teenage son died from suicide in early 2022, canceling all her schedules plans. Sinead O' Connor was apparently struggling when she passed away in 2023 at age 56. More of Sinead O' Connor's songs - 'Mandinka' ... 'Jerusalem' ... 'Heroine' ... 'This is a rebel song'... 🔥🔥
There is something so gratifying in watching someone being deeply moved by music. Thanks for doing this and bringing this beautiful song to people who perhaps have never heard it before. I was 12 when this came out, it was massive in the UK, no1 in the charts & played everywhere. Cried then, crying now RIP Sinead x
Thank you for this beautiful reaction!!! I love her music...she's one of my heroes!!! She was willing to sacrifice her career to bring light to the abuse in the Catholic Church. She's singing this with Prince and Chis Cornel now!! R.I.P. to all three!!🎵🎼🎶🎤🎸🎙🥁🎹🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💔💔💔 Her name is pronounced "Shin-aid"!!! Beautiful soul!!!
God bless your soul beautiful and talented and brave and fearless truth teller. Took on the Catholic church single handedly and paid a heavy price. Warrior woman rest in bliss.
It's pronounced SHI NAYD. Part of what made this song so haunting was the fact that she lost her Mom shortly before. Her Mom was on her mind during the video shoot and every time she sang it. Her Mom was sadly struggled with addiction and Sinead grew up dealing with abuse. She lost her Mom as a teenager. She had bipolar disorder, lost her 17 year old son to suicide, and her life was filled with tragedy; Despite all of this she was so intelligent, compassionate, and was an outspoken social justice advocate. Her catalogue of stunning music is much larger than this one song also:).
Beautiful lady, beautiful voice! So great that Prince wrote this song for her. Her voice does it justice. She left us way too soon! Thanks Adogg, watched it all with you.
Hope you learn something new today.😃🎶👍 "Nothing Compares 2 U" is a song written and composed by Prince for his side project the Family; the song appeared on their 1985 debut album, The Family. The song features lyrics exploring feelings of longing from the point of view of an abandoned lover. Several years later, the Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O'Connor recorded a version of the song for her second studio album, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got (1990). It was released as the album's second single in early 1990 and became a worldwide hit.
😢😇🙏 RIP precious Angel of God. I love her version of this song it is more heartfelt especially because she was pouring out her feeling toward her abusive mom after she passed away.
Thank you for this video. I was 15 when I first heard this. This song is what made me appreciate strings. It also was confirmation that a face without long flowing hair can be so beautiful.
Great reaction.RIP Sinead.🌹I know your mind was weary ,life for you has always been hard maybe now you will have the peace you so desperately wanted. You will be greatly missed. Now go hold your son hes waiting.💕 Godspeed 🙏 x
I have never got through this song with dry eyes. Even more so now she has passed. Just like Sinead, I suffer from mental health problems but to imagine suffering whilst the world watched is something else completely. Rest in peace Sinead, you're in a place of love now. Your passing is gonna leave a huge hole in the lives of so many.

Great reaction, thank you very much. Prince wrote this song about his maid who returned home to her country to support her family after a death. Sinead R.I.P. covered this song shortly after her mother was killed in a car crash, and all Sinead's heart-felt emotions were for her own mother who she missed dearly. Love from Ireland
She was 5 years younger than me yet i feel i grew up listening to her and watching her videos this song is my favorite always was RIP sweet peace my angel😇

Raw emotion - Raw honesty - Enormous talent. Her honesty and integrity got her into trouble when she addressed the things she was very passionate about, and she was passionate about a lot of social issues. Sinead also refused to be moulded by her record company into 'sexing it up". They got into her about 'dressing / presenting "more sexy" and told her to grow her hair more. She went straight out and cut her hair this short! 😄She said she preferred her music to stand or fall on it's own merits - not on her 'looks', and she was right. This one went gangbusters worldwide. One of those was her disgust and fury at the way the Catholic Church covered up paedophilia and protected, not the victims, but it's predator priests. Today she would have been applauded, back then? She got slammed for it. The backlash was effectively {mainstream} career ending, vicious and unrelenting, but she soldiered on. These attacks exposing and triggering her psychological fragility. Her true fans stuck with her, through her subsequent albums and tours and struggles with poor health. The loss of one of her sons to suicide the year before she also succumbed was a fatal blow at a time where her physical health was also deteriorating. She struggled hard to overcome these challenges, continuing to write music and plan for performances. Sadly we lost her. Gone but never forgotten. RIP Sinead. 💔❤🩹
