I don't think this can be classed as a cover. This version is the first time it was released on single (a version of it was previously an album track of the Family, written by Prince, but the Family's album track was not in the same league as this version). Prince released his own 'live' version of it 3 years later, but with a guest vocalist. The studio version was not released at that time. It was not until 2018 that the version featuring Prince as the vocalist was released as a single.

I was a radio DJ when this song was introduced to the stations. I heard a lot of music every day. This song didn't seem to fit into any playlist very easily. It's a slow song, which is about the only category I can give it. It's kind of haunting, and I couldn't stop seeing her cold presentation. The song doesn't flow well and I personally find it depressing. At least then, when put up into a playlist with musicians like Wham!, Phil Collins, the BeeGees and Billy Joel.

I was a radio DJ when this song was introduced to the stations. I heard a lot of music every day. This song didn't seem to fit into any playlist very easily. It's a slow song, which is about the only category I can give it. It's kind of haunting, and I couldn't stop seeing her cold presentation. The song doesn't flow well and I personally find it depressing. At least then, when put up into a playlist with musicians like Wham!, Phil Collins, the BeeGees and Billy Joel.
