- @russnydersfishing7541 clinched the Angler of the Year award for the Bassmaster Kayak Series with a second place finish on the Susquehanna. His top two river smallmouth patterns consisted of a quickly moving baitfish profile, followed by a neko rig that screams "hellgrammite". He was kind enough to share all the details of each pattern while we fished together the day after.
Rus is another class act that brings the best for fishing. Very humble and just an all around great guy

Great video Jeff! Great info. I noticed Russ was using electronics on his kayak, maybe when he was dropping waypoints he was seeing the fish on his Lowrance or whatever he used. Maybe he caught a fish and then saw more on his screen? When you were filming Drew Gregory he was just throwing sporadically at different spots and he said sometimes he picks up fish that way. I’ve been chasing smallmouth my whole life and I still haven’t figured out why they can be in such different places 😂. The other thing I noticed ,is that Zman bang stick grew legs??? Lol. He did some remodeling 😂. Great Interview. Thanks for sharing as always! PS It makes me feel better to see you perplexed over his decision making, I’m not alone 👍
I like the confusion. It means I am learning. He put silicone skirt material through the bang stick. I’m going to try that rig soon. Ordered the hook and Neko weights.

I heavily prefer river fishing. It was something I did growing up, but was somewhat intimidating as I paddled more aggressive whitewater. Research what class rapids are on your float trip before you commit, and watch the River Kayak Fishing Skills DVD video.
@@TheLittleStuff I grew up on the Susquehanna as a kid so have to go to Drew’s Kayak Adventure Series event in August. Towanda is the town I grew up in. Just always was on a bait with my uncle. So going to be there for the first time on a kayak. That is why I need to practice. Hope to see you there Jeff.
I think the TRD HogZ would be a good hellgramite imitator.
I’ve done well with that bait in cold water.
