Congrats Russ. Some awesome hardware there. Thanks to Russ and Jeff for the great video. Thanks Russ for the commentary along the way too. Most guys don’t want anybody filming while they fish. A great ambassador for the sport

I tried to hang back and just let him fish. He just started narrating what he was thinking. I don’t believe that Rus is a “talk to himself” kind of guy. It’s the kayak fishing guide in him that automatically slips into teaching mode. We are lucky to have his generous teaching.

Thanks Tony. The most remarkable thing about that day isn’t anything I captured on video. I think that I failed to capture it because I was “staying back” so I wouldn’t be in his way. Here’s what I observed throughout the day, even during the first two hours when he did not have any significant fish on the board: When I could see Rus’s face, he was always smiling. I could see that top row of teeth. Dude is happy. I don’t think that it was a “just that day” sort of thing either. “cheerful” is a fishing skill. It’s directly related to Positive Mental Attitude.

To watch him have his heart broken, losing that 20 inch smallmouth at 12:30, then to see him land that big one at 14:30, is amazing. And I loved the talk you gave him, Jeff, after that lost one. Nice job. I like how he motors to shore to snap the photo, too. Great idea, if you can do it.

Can you submit the same 5 fish for each tournament?

    • @TheLittleStuff

This style format tournament is different. There is no “weigh in” per se. Please watch the video to see how each fish is photographed on a measuring board, and that photo is uploaded to the tournament judges. It is a length based tournament, not a weight based tournament.
