I fitted one of those types of thermostats (a 196°F one) into the 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine which is in my 2002 model Holden VY SS Commodore & I ordered a used thermostat cover on eBay which was off a 6 litre Chevrolet L76 V8 engine from a Holden VE SS Commodore engine (aka 2006+ Pontiac GTO in the U.S.) which had some pitting in it. Yes,it leaked a few drops of coolant so one evening I just removed the thermostat then smeared some RTV silicone sealant on the gasket & some inside of the housing which stopped it from leaking coolant. It has been leak free for over the last 5 years & 60,000 kilometres (40,000 miles) ,I mentioned this for your own information !
Your a wonderful roadside mechanic and you take care of your customers if more people were like you this would be a wonderful world I'm sick and have a lot of problems but I still will go out of my way to help others
Ive reused thermostat gaskets/seals a million times without any issues, never used gasket sealer/maker on them either LOL. 30k later when the coolant is due for service I'll replace them then (sometimes I won't then either lol) I wouldn't stress yourself over it. I bet you $10 that you won't have any leaks from that t-stat.
Easiest water pump and thermostat ive done is my 02 5.9 cummins. Most pain in the ass was my 3.5 ecoboost in a hotel parking lot in alberta winter. Whiskey was a requirement.
Wish it was that easy when I was working at dodge with those dang challengers and chargers you have to remove a shit load of stuff to get to the radiator
