- In August 1689, a Jacobite Army supporting the restoration of King James VII and II met a Williamite Army at Dunkeld in the Scottish Highlands. In August 2019, The 1745 Association gathered at Dunkeld to remember the events of that fateful day......
'Remembering Dunkeld' is the first part of a trilogy seeking to unravel unsolved mysteries of the Jacobite era. The other two videos in the series are ‘When Madame de Pompadour met Bonnie Prince Charlie’ (2021, 24 min), which considers why French support for a Stuart Restoration, sealed by the Treaty of Fontainebleau in October 1745, came to a sudden end after October 1746, and 'John Roy Stuart', which assesses the life, poems and legacy of the Jacobite warrior-poet.
Members and friends of the 26th regiment of foot the cameronians still attend a church service at dunkeld every year to give thanks
Great piece of history and delivered superbly. Very interesting and important. I really enjoyed watching this and really had no idea of the scale of the battle. I was married in the Cathedral back in 2006. So much history and and beautiful place too.
