Come Home is the third track on Mavis Staples' first Paisley Park Records album Time Waits For No One. In 1994 it was included as the third and final track on a European version of The Voice, the first single from her second Paisley Park Records album The Voice. In 1995 it was included as the eighth track on a re-issue of the album The Voice (the only track to be added to the re-issue).
While specific recording dates are not known, initial tracking for Prince's original version took place in January 1987, at Prince's Galpin Blvd Home Studio, Chanhassen, MN, USA (during the same set of sessions as La, La, La, He, He, Hee). The song was originally intended for African American R&B singer Meli'sa Morgan, but it is not known if Prince submitted the song to her for her use. Prince revised the song in late June 1988, at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (during the same set of sessions as recording Time Waits For No One and revising I Guess I'm Crazy and Train). The song was then sent (along with Time Waits For No One, I Guess I'm Crazy and Train) to Mavis Staples in Memphis, TN, USA, where she recorded lead vocal overdubs with producers Al Bell, Homer Banks and Lester Snell at Ardent Studios.
It amuses me that this man’s unreleased demos are far and away better than 99% of what the music industry can come up with today.

Actually Come home was released on Mavis Staples LP "Time waits for no-one" in 1989.
I disagree with you: the Vault is a big waste of time: Prince realised mainly 1 LP per year which is amazing but most of his songs are nowadays very old-fashioned and almost only Prince fans are listening to them now.
Prince has been a superstar but times passes and his music and himself are ignored by the young generations.
Kids and teenagers look at Prince music like we did with Elvis Presley: lack of interest...

I Like It! Prince told his band members to practice as if they were actually performing for an audience. That is why his demos sound the way they do.
I believe it was written/produced with the intent on giving it to Mavis Staples to record, so it is a demo in that sense only.

My favorite Mavis Staples song that P gave to her. I never heard his version. Mavis killed it good but P is the originator. His low falsetto sounds like a phone conversation late at night that you don't want anyone else in the house to hear. Brilliant. Miss this genius! :(

It's basically the same as the Mavis Staple version. This was close to done. He probably gave it to her soon after this to add her vocals and do the final mix. (Her version is outstanding as well.)

Today is 21 April 2018 and I'm enjoying a self-imposed Prince Day. I am jamming in as much of Prince, his music and interviews as I can fit into 24 hours. I'm also enjoying the flood of generous and loving comments posted all over the net - Prince is truly loved, adored and appreciated by millions of people who recognised his god given talent, creativity and ability to evolve as the musical creative genius that he was and the man that he became. Prince was one of greatest humans that graced this earth, he is a shining example of how to live your purpose by living your passion and being the very best version of yourself and at the same time supporting others to do the same. It is said that we are as close to each other as our thoughts, Prince you may not be here in the physical but know that we all feel the beauty of your omni-presence. We are drawn to you like moths to a flame and bath in your warm purple essence that constantly pervades our days.
That’s how it felt to be at paisley park last year at that time. Being around his “family “ was wonderful!

Not to leave anything out. So Much Talent. He knew so much, & Learned it by himself, not speaking of all the instruments, he could play. There is alot, more to music, then learning to play different instruments. I just don't, under stand, how he's gone so young. God Rest His Soul.
