Not a stupid question at all, android auto is a driver extension of your phone and displays all your phones information in an easy to read way on your headunit. I highly recommend it
I know you recommend it over the dynavin but can you maybe list some pros/cons for this over the dynavin? I see sometimes the touchscreen has some issues, does that happen frequently? Also, do you have a video of all the programming you set to this radio with key integrations etc?

Probably the only good thing I can say is that sound quality is very very good, if you get the DSP option. Other than that most of everything else is crap shoot, amd I do mean crap. Also have an e46 M3 vert. The subwoofer hits well. Although I do pickup a little vibration from the sub.
How to get the car logo in. I have avin 4 Android 10. Didn't see the car logo at all. Is car Logo comes with the headunit or you uploaded yourself? Other question the light on the unit doesn't come on. Do I need to go in setting to turn it on? Also my steering button doesn't work eventhose the canbus installed. Anyway great review.
So, I’m digging the head unit. This is the one I want to go with. When I go to the Avin web site. There are like 10 or so add on options. If I buy the stereo without adding any of those options, will it have everything I need to connect the unit itself? With that being asked. What options do you recommend adding to this unit? Thanks
Yes it will still come with all the cables. I recommend getting it will the IBUS adapter to monitor the car. I also recommend getting the CarPlay/android auto adapter with you would like that featur

You've done some great videos! I have a 2001 325Ci convertible that I bought last year from the original owner with 58k miles on. The big thing is I wanted to add BT capability for music and phone calls. I installed a Grom BT and the sound quality sucks and the phone connection is hit or miss at best. I started looking for a better solution and found BlueBus through the E46 forum. However, looking at the price of BlueBus plus a factory mic I started to wonder if a new head was a better solution. The key for me is to keep it looking as original as possible. I found the Dynavin , Eonon and now Avant. The main thing I want is BT phone connectivity and the ability to use Pandora while keeping it looking stock. I don't know about and haven't used Android Auto (I have an LG V30). Relocating the ventilation is not a problem, I know what I need to buy for that. My thinking is to go with the PX6 and microphone. The IBUS feature look cool but I am hesitant about cutting to the factory harness. Your thought would be appreciated.

I have the same Avant 4 and use Wireless CarPlay all day on it, but I can't get Siri to launch with the steering wheel buttons, do you know how to set this up? When I press the speech button the Bluetooth app on the Avant 4 opens up (even though I intentionally have no devices hooked up to the unit for Bluetooth). Would be so handy to have that speech button launch Siri. In fact, I've played around with the wheel key study app and it never seems to pick up any of the buttons. The volume and track selection buttons on the wheel work though.
Ok, I with the key learning I can assign a physical button on the Avant 4 to Siri, but if I try to assign any of the buttons on the steering wheel it ignores them. I went into settings and disabled the Bluetooth app so it no longer opens when I press the speech button, but in key learning if I select Siri and then press the speech button once, twice, long press, etc, nothing happens.

Great video. I'm not sure what has happened to Avin's support, but it is now terrible. My box arrived without a single sheet of literature or instructions what so ever. Any interactions with support will take a minimum of 1day for them to respond. They will always refer you to user posted UA-cam videos for support as they have none of their own. Lastly, I install mine and it instantly fried the Avin supplied connection adapter to the head unit, without me ever turning it on. I'm not sure of the head unit itself is fried, but Avin is sending a new 14pin adapter. This could not possible have been my fault since everything is pretty much plug and play, there are no wireless to cross or mis-connect. Super disappointed with this entire thing. I'm $800+ deep in this and it hasn't gone well at all.
I just got Avant 4 head unit installed but my illumination orange led don’t stay on can you tell me how you keep yours on because that an issue I’m a bit disappointed. It turns on when I change it in element but then turn off after a sec
Do you recall how you got the backup camera to not come up.. I don't have a backup camera but it still blacks out the screen when putting it in reverse
Does this unit have a feature that once you put your car in reverse, the radio automatically displays the image from the backup camera? Also if so are the lines dynamic or static?
Hi - I have a very similar Android HU branded as an Erisin. These Avin units look extremely similar, and even the apps in your review (such as the EQ one) are identical on the chinese units. I'm wondering if the difference is in build quality? The two knobs at the bottom left and right - are they rubbery like the OEM BMW satnav, or hard plastic like the Erisin/other chinese HUs? Also, does it have functioning speed-sensitive volume? I used to love that on the OEM stereo! Also how is the wifi reception? The Erisin unit doesn't pick up the Wifi from my house when the car is on the drive.

Evan nice review. I bought the same unit px6 processor with wireless carplay. I have a problem activating Siri from steering wheel speak icon. wWhen i hit it, the car exita carplay and automatically connect to bluetooth calling menu. I use iphone and because of this i can not use speak button on steering wheel to call Siri. Even i try to make it learn when i hit that button again it returns to bluetooth call screen. Any suggestions? Thanks for your reply in advance
I have the same issue (with android auto, but same thing). Basically the wheelkey study app doesn't work and there's nothing in the factory settings that lets me change what the buttons do. Have you made any progress? This is driving me mad.
What’s the real life difference between the four different CPU options? There are PX4, PX6 and two different Qualcomm options. I’d like to use fluent apple car play navigation. Will be the PX4 configuration sufficient enough? Also: The base configuration does already include wired apple car play right? I only need to purchase the separate adapter if I need wireless CarPlay. Is that correct?
I just placed my order today. Definitely go PX6. I went with the Qualcom 8 core 4GB ram hoping it stays smooth and fast as the unit gets older. You will always need some form of adapter for AA or Carplay, I paid for the more expensive adapter for wireless capability just because on my other Andoird auto head units in other cars once the cables get old the connection starts failing causing connectivity issues.
I love the video. I bought one and i am working on my sound setting but it still sounds verry cheap quality for me.. I did not have that with my pioneer. Is this a problem with these radio’s that they have poor sound quality? I do love everything else
It does switch to night mode in carplay/android auto. I can’t remember how the dimming works on the eonon radio as I don’t have it anymore. I would suggest buying the avant 4 from Avin USA. They make the best radios for e46s hands down

When you turn your car off and turn it back on, is it instant on? I dont see the start up screens with my logo or anything. not sure if there is a setting i am missing
Yeah, I don't get a BMW logo most of the time, but if I've disconnected the battery I do. I believe it is waking from standby rather than from a power-off state when you normally turn the car off and on.
You can also dim the screen with an app like Screen dimmer pro.. I find it's too bright at night on lowest too. I have click and hold set to turn whole screen off! The click n holds are handy.. What do u have your mode and 'talking' steering wheel buttons set to do?
Not bad looking stereo head unit but I personally prefer the full touch screen. Far more modern and more screen space. Great stuff as always. I like how you keep E46 modifications going :)

Allows you to enable some features on your car like roll your windows up when you pass a certain speed things like that. You can see the options on their site

Yes the logo can be set from the menu. As for the light it’s a setting too. Is your steering canbus installed correctly?

Yes the radio itself runs on android. But any device will connect and carplay will work too

Not seeing anything about the faceplate or whatever it is that makes the relocated HVAC control panel fit nicely? Is that included with the unit?
No it’s not included and you need to buy it separately from sites like FCPEURO
You can also just pop out the empty box that’s above the ashtray and slide it in there. It’s a little loose but It looks perfectly fine.
How does the pdc Work? Do you Have to install some kind of sensor to the rear end of the car?

No you won’t need to connect it to your trunk if you bmw does not come with the GPS module

Great video. I'm not sure what has happened to Avin's support, but it is now terrible. My box arrived without a single sheet of literature or instructions what so ever. Any interactions with support will take a minimum of 1day for them to respond. They will always refer you to user posted UA-cam videos for support as they have none of their own. Lastly, I install mine and it instantly fried the Avin supplied connection adapter to the head unit, without me ever turning it on. I'm not sure of the head unit itself is fried, but Avin is sending a new 14pin adapter. This could not possible have been my fault since everything is pretty much plug and play, there are no wireless to cross or mis-connect. Super disappointed with this entire thing. I'm $800+ deep in this and it hasn't gone well at all.

I just got Avant 4 head unit installed but my illumination orange led don’t stay on can you tell me how you keep yours on because that an issue I’m a bit disappointed. It turns on when I change it in element but then turn off after a sec

Hi - I have a very similar Android HU branded as an Erisin. These Avin units look extremely similar, and even the apps in your review (such as the EQ one) are identical on the chinese units. I'm wondering if the difference is in build quality? The two knobs at the bottom left and right - are they rubbery like the OEM BMW satnav, or hard plastic like the Erisin/other chinese HUs? Also, does it have functioning speed-sensitive volume? I used to love that on the OEM stereo! Also how is the wifi reception? The Erisin unit doesn't pick up the Wifi from my house when the car is on the drive.

Evan nice review. I bought the same unit px6 processor with wireless carplay. I have a problem activating Siri from steering wheel speak icon. wWhen i hit it, the car exita carplay and automatically connect to bluetooth calling menu. I use iphone and because of this i can not use speak button on steering wheel to call Siri. Even i try to make it learn when i hit that button again it returns to bluetooth call screen. Any suggestions? Thanks for your reply in advance

Evan Goyuk For carplay, in the autoplay application settings, there is a a key learning column. I program the keys from there.
Try doing it under factory settings on the radio. The code to enter those settings are 126

I have the same issue (with android auto, but same thing). Basically the wheelkey study app doesn't work and there's nothing in the factory settings that lets me change what the buttons do. Have you made any progress? This is driving me mad.

What’s the real life difference between the four different CPU options? There are PX4, PX6 and two different Qualcomm options.
I’d like to use fluent apple car play navigation. Will be the PX4 configuration sufficient enough?
Also: The base configuration does already include wired apple car play right? I only need to purchase the separate adapter if I need wireless CarPlay. Is that correct?
I just placed my order today. Definitely go PX6. I went with the Qualcom 8 core 4GB ram hoping it stays smooth and fast as the unit gets older. You will always need some form of adapter for AA or Carplay, I paid for the more expensive adapter for wireless capability just because on my other Andoird auto head units in other cars once the cables get old the connection starts failing causing connectivity issues.
I love the video. I bought one and i am working on my sound setting but it still sounds verry cheap quality for me.. I did not have that with my pioneer. Is this a problem with these radio’s that they have poor sound quality? I do love everything else

It does switch to night mode in carplay/android auto. I can’t remember how the dimming works on the eonon radio as I don’t have it anymore. I would suggest buying the avant 4 from Avin USA. They make the best radios for e46s hands down

Usb jack on back of radio then run a wire to where ever you want

When you turn your car off and turn it back on, is it instant on? I dont see the start up screens with my logo or anything. not sure if there is a setting i am missing
Yeah, I don't get a BMW logo most of the time, but if I've disconnected the battery I do. I believe it is waking from standby rather than from a power-off state when you normally turn the car off and on.

You can also dim the screen with an app like Screen dimmer pro.. I find it's too bright at night on lowest too. I have click and hold set to turn whole screen off! The click n holds are handy..

Not bad looking stereo head unit but I personally prefer the full touch screen. Far more modern and more screen space. Great stuff as always. I like how you keep E46 modifications going :)

You need to use google maps on the actual navigation. I have not actually used this feature since I use carplay. You would have to reach out to IBUS
