I loved this video. I wish I'd have started this lifestyle 20 years ago. Most people don't understand that minimalism isn't about living with nothing. Your mother must be absolutely proud of you! At such a young age, already live on your own, knows about finances and the importance of knowing what is and is not needed in everyday life. You are quite a catch! Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration to your generation and to us all. Thank you for sharing you thoughts and ideas. Thumbs up !!!
This young man’s wisdom is amazing. At 58 I’ve become sick and tired of cleaning space and stuff that isn’t used. Videos such as this increase excitement for the downsizing process but I’m amazed at the thousands of dollars I’ve wasted. What else could I have done with that money?
Minimalism isn't about buying cheap stuff, it's the opposite. You have very few items but the ones you have are quality and will last you. I am a minimalist. I may have less clothes than I used to but I buy nice things so I don't need to replace them as often. You're killing it for 21.
Although I am not a traditional minimalist I kind of explain how I utilize minimalist philosophies in my own life. Taking what works within my situation.🌿
We keep acquiring what we don't need just to please others but deep down it's a waste of money, why not invest that money and grow your financial capability.
He is light years ahead of many others his age. Born in '98 makes him young compared to me! Next I am going to the Extreme Konmari method of decluttering. Enough is enough. I discovered my clutter follows me where ever I go. And, too much stuff is like a mental burden to me.
Damn, when I was 21 I had nothing to sell 😂😂 when I was 25 I got my first apartment and I had less things then than you do now as a minimalist. I guess minimalism comes naturally to poor people.
E C, Looks like he is a minimalist about things he doesn't like/use but a maximalist with his things he wants to have. I wonder what is his point already.... ;{
Haz Ida how do you know he was “privileged”? Don’t judge a book by its cover. He could’ve grown up poor and just started working/saving at an early age for all you know. My family is far from privileged, but my little brother is 12 yet already has over 1000$ that he earned himself saved because he is lucky enough to have a 27 year old big sister who had to learn a lot of financial lessons/habits the hard way, so I started him super early on about a year ago learning about little hustles he can do and good money management so he can learn the value of a dollar and hard work early on and not have to suffer from the mistakes/materialism that got me over 5k in consumer debt (with no savings) before I even hit my mid 20s. Sometimes, with the help of the internet, kids don’t even need a sibling or parent to teach/guide them early on regarding making/saving money. Doesn’t make them privileged, it makes them mature/smart. This guy could be the result of that kind of early on maturity for all you know. Young or old, not everyone well off was handed their success, despite popular assumption.
WRONG. poor people can hoard junk off the streets/dumpster diving for free AND buy trash from the 99 cents store. your thinking is completely illogical and simply an emotional response. in fact, poor people are more likely to have garbage as they are not educated on stuff and mental health.
You don't have to, many people like them because bringing natures fertilities into your house eases your mind, it's a relic of our old ways. Basically your brain goes wooo great environment for living me happy.
` lmao 😂 I’m a house plant fanatic and I can assure you that I have no issues with bugs. Most people who have issues with pest either have contaminated soil or over water them. Plants absolutely do a lot for the home and you know this. Don’t be silly. 😊
Guys he’s not kidding about the bed. A good bed makes a whole lot of difference. Trust and believe that. I’m living with that mistake of not investing in a great bed unfortunately.
You should take your shoes off inside. They only track in germs. When you slung them up on the table I was pretty shocked. I think shoe removal fits your personality quite well and will keep things clean.
Darthwing Xodius Thats a joke right? Minimalism is not how many items you own, but either absolutely loving or absolutely needing every single item you own. This is true to an extent. Obviously Is someone has 65 pairs of shoes and says they love every single one of them but never wears them all, then in that case that’s would be boarderline not minimalist. Minimalism looks different for everyone.
After living in New York I learned to be a minimalist. I totally agree with your stance. Of course, minimalism has a spectrum, but the more we as a people can focus less on acquiring "stuff" the better our lives will be and we can focus our time, resources and energy on what we enjoy. Great video!
I knew a guy who lived like this. He had a couch, a TV, a chair, a coffee table, a desk etc etc - and everything was high end stuff. but did not have one magazine, one book, one pen, one iPad, one photograph.... His kitchen had one plate, one fork, one knife, one glass. His fridge was empty except for a few beers. In his closet, he had 7 shirts, 2 "dress" shirts, and 4 pairs of jeans. But whenever I visited, I felt like I was walking into a hotel room. To me, it did not feel or look like a someone lived there. Anyway, he moved out of state recently and he sold his stuff and his business. I think all he left with were the 7 shirts, 2 "dress" shirts, and 4 pairs of jeans.
I had one friend commenting on someone living like that and praising it "he doesn't have anything he doesn't use". I said "you still need storage". My friend "no, that's the point, if you store it it means you don't use it" I was like "naaah, you need to store your vacuum that you don't use 24/7, your coats during summer... and what about luggage? so he'll never travel bc that entails storing luggage when not in vacation?" My friend: 🤔 you have a point. LOL
Nomady 402 Not true; in my country almost everyone does but I do realise many I watch online are Americans so it could be a cultural difference. Anyway that’s why I’m writing this, and as a transitioning minimalist trust me, we have to think about things meticulously to make the most of minimalism so letting them know of something that should really be a basic essential for everyone will help them a lot (especially as it spreads better habits to new minimalists they’re promoting to).
actually u can enable siri/google assistant etc in ur settings and ask them to make the call or text! pretty useful, i think iphones will call even if you dont have siri on but say the command but im not 100% sure. either way, smart assistants can be life savers
Me and my wife just moved from a two bedroom house to an onebedroom apartment, I was shocked how much rubbish we kept in the house, for years. We got rid of 80% of our stuff, and I feel great, and light! 😀
A little tip for a better coffee: you put first the coffee ( the amount that you need) in the cup. After that, you pour 30-40ml of hot water ( around 90 degrees Celsius, the water must not be boiled because it will destroy the quality of the coffee grounds) and you stir and let it settle for 5 minutes. After this, you pour the rest of the water to fill the cup and stir one more time. Ready. I learned this trick from a barista...and it changed the quality of my coffee cup. Try it and you'll see. Cheers.
I have been in the process of getting rid of all my “stuff” as well. I pay for 2 storage units and have always had a large amount of stuff. It is very therapeutic to rid yourself of things that tie you down.
Love the perspective. Learning to differentiate between the things that truly hold value in your life and those that don’t is a huge accomplishment for anyone, any age. Every person has a different situation and set of needs. The home atmosphere of a family of 12 will likely be vastly different than that of a single person living in their own home. You’re spot on with the whole concept. Love itttt
Nice video! My family of 5 is trying the minimalism experiment as well. We live in a 700sq ft unit of our triplex we are househacking. Sold a lot of stuff. Living on less but much more satisfying life.
The way you drink your coffee is not weird at all. In Indonesia we do it all the time. We call it “kopi tubruk” which literally means “ hit and run coffee”.
@L Sheesh not to critique you, just a thought. One thing is being a hoarder and another having an apartment that empty. It is like one extreme or the other for people. I find extremely boring and uncreative living in a space that barren.
@L I agree with you in part as I am not into a lot of things or clutter but also not so minimal. I meant that people are always going to the extremes either a hoarder or a super minimalist. I am not a minimalist but I am also not a hoarder, I like a happy medium and for you the apartment might look fine which is ok if that is your aesthetic but to me it is looks empty. Besides I am trying to have a polite conversation with you but you had to ruin it with your rudeness. If you like the apartment is fine but I wouldn't like to be in it if that is your home either.
@L I am not easily offended not even remotely, but your last remark was actually quite unnecessary and besides the point, and you come off as abrasive without realizing it. You have valid points but I also have valid points too. Just learn to listen without having to be so caustic. I can learn from you and you can learn from me, simple as that.
@L I am not offended just annoyed by your way of connecting with others and I am not here to change your mind just to learn about other people's points of view like yours. You failed to acknowledge or see that I am not supporting hoarding or accumulation of things as I also don't support minimalism. I am supporting a happy medium but you only want to see what you want to so you keep knocking down all other opinions because you are too fixated on yours to be able to exchange ideas in a objective manner with others. A shame.
The way you drink coffee my friend, it is not weird, most of Eastern and Northern Europe is drinking this way :) nothing weird, do not worry about it, I drink it like this too.

Or simply don't move out of your parents home like an idiot. Why distant yourself from your family and have a financial burden up your ass? I understand if it's a really messed up family, but for the most of us we can easily stay there and make things happen.
This minimalism thing satisfies my Ocd but for a short time. After some time I feel again the need to reduce more and more but then again to add things that I need so I get very confused and exhaused. I feel like there is no end if I concentrate on these material things. Can anyone relate?
You might try extreme minimalism then, owning like 20 or 30 things. Or only things that you can fit in your backpack. This is something I really enjoyed when I travelled for my job. I just had a week worth of clothes, laptop equipment and phone ofc. It felt quite good. Next time I move (in a couple of months!) I will definetely go really minimalist!
I'd have the blender stored and my electric kettle at hand, it honestly saves me so much time (heats water a lot faster than the stove and since I don't like the taste of water I have hot drinks a lot)
True that. Have elec kettle to pour filtered water over my just-ground organic coffe beans with a tsp of organic almond flavouring. Mmm! My coffee is THE BEST! I have a toaster & a nice microwave. To each his own.😁😸

@Karen Batista oh 🙄🤭

So refreshing having a young lad like you considering what is really important in life. I wonder where your mentality came from? So young and so wise

The only problem i see is the lack of plants.
So minimalists should all be clones and adopt the same aesthetic?
One gorgeous plant would be nice.

That's so true, I have 5 blenders 😂😂
Saving is a good way to keep some money for ourselves.
Am the materialistic type I don't think I can live like these.
Not everyone can choose to live like these but I think it's smart, these way you save more and spend less.
Hello Tim, what short term investment can one make that can yield a good return monthly.
He is light years ahead of many others his age. Born in '98 makes him young compared to me! Next I am going to the Extreme Konmari method of decluttering. Enough is enough. I discovered my clutter follows me where ever I go. And, too much stuff is like a mental burden to me.

Minimalism is amazing. I would recommend everyone to watch a documentary named "Minimalism" on Netflix to dig more into this concept.
I will check it out

@@Crambull Matt was actually the director of "Minimalism : A Documentary"
It's amazing that he has got it figured more about life at 21, than most people (including myself) in their 30s! Amazing person ! Cheers from India
Damn, when I was 21 I had nothing to sell 😂😂 when I was 25 I got my first apartment and I had less things then than you do now as a minimalist. I guess minimalism comes naturally to poor people.
Exactly, all this privileged people who want to teach people a lesson 😁😂
First of all, stop calling yourself a poor person.
E C, Looks like he is a minimalist about things he doesn't like/use but a maximalist with his things he wants to have. I wonder what is his point already.... ;{
It seems that no matter how "minimalist" you are, you always have to have a house plant.

house plants bring bugs and do nothing for the home. totally useless.
You don't have to, many people like them because bringing natures fertilities into your house eases your mind, it's a relic of our old ways.
Basically your brain goes wooo great environment for living me happy.
I have none :)

Cheers.
The idea is used with a French press, but thats also a good idea

I think minimalism add more value to life by making cleaning easier, thinking better and Mental and physical more healthier
People will literally see this see it as a problem when they have 50% of things in their home they really don’t even ever use
