      I like Asus Strix version more... Because my old GTX570 back in 2011 before being Strix was kinda a Strix already with the 3 slot massive cooler DirectCU II (Strix now uses DirectCU III).
      Basically the GTX570 stock is 732mhz and I flashed the bios with 1.2V unlocked and using 1.2V I could push the card to 915mhz on the clock and a lot on the memories too, and the card never got to 80Cº with 60-70% fan speed which wasnt even that loud.
      Never had a ATI or AMD GPU that could ever OC as much as my old Nvidia or anything close at all.
      It actually made a HUGE difference, Star Wars went from around 40 FPS to 50-60 FPS with that OC back then all ultra 1080P with just shadows to medium and no AA, and that GPU didnt even met minimum system recommendation for the game, but it actually played well SP and MP mostly around 60 FPS with that ultra settings :).
      Oh and yes the GPU is still alive after many years of that huge OC treatment while all my GPUs before it always died fast with or without OC :(.

    The Nitro+ lets you replace the shroud and backplate and make the whole thing dark red or dark blue (with yellow highlights for some reason). I know custom backplates are a thing, don't know about custom fans and shrouds but either way gotta give props to Sapphire for doing the modular thing.

    I've always liked the look of the Sapphire cards for some reason. When I was still shopping for a GPU I always seemed to come back to their RX 580 cards. To me they look really sharp, in a basic kind of way. One thing that stood out was that they came with the backplate. I ultimately ended up with a really good deal on a Strix 1070 OC.

    So from a 1050 to 1060, it's an upgrade.
    From a 580 to a 590, it's just a refresh.
    Yet the 590 has a smaller die, more mhz.
    It like these reviewers are talking down to anything AMD.

      @feedme6953 5 років тому +3

      There is a massive jump between the 1050 and 1060. Improvements in speed AND vram. Also better texture quality. The 580 and 590 are so similar that it boils down to how much that bit of speed matters. VRAM does matter. Speed is negligible when comparing the two AMD cards. The video is not "why AMD is worse than nvidia". It just compares two cards who happen to both be from AMD. Either, you did not watch the video, or you drew your own conclusions based on other information which was not included in the video. Either one of these shows a big problem in your cognitive reasoning. Perhaps you are just young, or perhaps you really are stupid. Only you will be able to answer that

      I was thinking about getting a NVIDIA card first but they were more expensive in my country. I was afraid of the heat problem on AMD cards but gave it a try anyways. I got the Nitro+ for my first gaming PC. The only time I heard the fans while gaming was when I overclocked it but I decided to get it back to stock because the amount of FPS I got weren't worth the noise even when it was mild noise. I've been able to play modern titles on ultra settings , most of the time above 60FPS and FreeSync. I'm happy with the purchase, those people complaining about power consumption on this card seem to be like they are manually powering their PSU for those extra watts.

    Usually the Sapphire SE cards use better binned chips. So it runs cool and you can undervolt them way lower than normal models.
    PS: I wish testers would stop using MSI Afterburner for tweaking AMD cards, you have an awesome panel in the driver package that provides way better settings than that.

    of course you wont get good overclocking result if you dont bump up the core voltage and the power limit. You can add +100mv to the gpu core with no problems (You dont reduce the card lifespan one bit). My rx 480 does 1330mhz with stock voltage/power limit, but with 50% power limit and 100mv does 1420mhz rock solid stable.

  • @stephandolby
    @stephandolby 5 років тому +2

    No need to overclock really, and as the Sapphire comes with a memory overclock out of the box, it naturally performs better. Just set up a custom fan profile if you don't like temperatures and you're set.
    You could also do what I did - undervolt to 1075mV with -10% power limit, and use less power at stock speeds. Seems to perform about the same.

The Rx 590 can only overclock to 1600Mhz so it might get 5 more FPS your not going to get much more out of Polaris It's at it's Limit to be Honest...

A kind of Serious Prototype for 12nm and final Version to the Polaris Line to tide things over until Navi is a thing.

Slightly more performance and at a greater cost (though with Nvidia it is an insanely greater cost) to bring down prices of older cards. With Nvidia, there were trying to sell the over abundance of 10 series cards, but AMD was trying to bring down prices of the RX series to make ot a lower cost before black friday, hence the reason that the 590 had such a quick and honestly meaningless release. That's likely also why it was an oddly timed release, as the end of year sales were approaching. So overall, the goal pf the 590 was to even more so kill the 1060 and bring down other RX card prices before the end of year sales.
    Although this is just speculation on my part, but it seems likely to me.

    Sapphire RX 590: Only to 1590mhz.!
    - Sounds to me like that card has to be a little bit of an "unlucky" example to be honest.
    I'm able to run mine at 1715mhz. without crashes or issues in any application that I've thrown at it so far. Although, depending on the application being run, sometimes I've had it all the way up to 1735mhz.
    That is with the memory also OC. up to 2250Mhx., a custom fan curve (Starting at 20% speed at 30 C. to 100% speed at 80 C.) Stock air cooler from Sapphire.
    And the highest temperature (that I've seen/noticed) would be 82 C. on the GPU.

    I wish I had seen this video three days ago. Yeah I bought the Sapphire card, but it looks to be maybe not the best option for a RX 590. Seduced by that pretty blueness. Still not shipped though, which really pisses me off.
    Two weeks ago I bought the Strix RX 590, only to find out they did not have one in stock after all. I asked for a refund. Now this Sapphire turns out not to have been in stock either. Different shop, but the same BS. These NZ shops do not sell many cards, so it looks like they don't actually bother stocking them and order from suppliers when they sell one via their website. Dodgy AF. If it does not turn up tomorrow I am going to ask for a refund again. Sick of this sh!t. I have to keep talking myself out of being angry about it.
    GPU is the last piece of the puzzle after doing CPU, memory, mobo, SSD, PSU etc. Went with a 2700x. Effing expensive here in NZ like most things. Small market so shops can not stock 1000s of a product they got for a good price and sell cheap like Amazon etc. Retail association lobbied the previous government to make Amazon etc charge NZ sales tax and import duties etc at checkout, so it does not pay off to import anymore. We quite often end up paying roughly 50% more than US peeps pay. The downside of living on some pretty little islands in the middle of nowhere, but lots of good points, so whatever.
    Why RX 590? Kind of a reluctant buy, but I only have a GTX 1050ti right now, so it is a big improvement. I wanted the 8gb of memory. That's good for playing older games I like that have lots of texture mods and ENB etc (Fallout 4 etc). I also considered a Sapphire Pulse Rx 570 8gb that was a fair bit cheaper. I probably should have got that to tide me over until Navi. Still might do the way things are going with trying to buy a RX 590. Vent: End

    you would have got a bad chip in sapphire since it's very unlikely that the overclocking headroom of same chip from different vendors would perform so differently.

    • @faycalassaad6066
      @faycalassaad6066 5 років тому

      The Powercolor's cooling solution is more geared towards cooling than efficiency so it would be easier to OC from the get go, however the Sapphire strikes the best balance between performence/cooling/silence out of the box.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the lack of overclocking headroom suggest that AMD has already OC'd it about as far as it will go (i.e. they're giving you the best deal they can out of the box)?

    • @magikarp2063
      @magikarp2063 5 років тому +1

      They are pushing the chip as far as it can go out of the box so you arr kind of right. This is however not really a good thing since the power consumption is huge for this reason. Also temps go up with power so they have to make better coolers that are more expensive to make.

    At around 7:10 you were wrong. Having lower temps does not increase lifespan only temperatures above thermal cutoff / throttling point decrease lifespan. And furthermore if you look at cards that have been mined on the fans are always the first things to fail, so it is worse to spin them as there will be no longer lifespan because of the temperatures, only a reduced one due to bearing failure.

Add the fact the nitro+ runs as quiet as silent model 1060's even when using its performance bios and its build quality and you got a real solid package I'd easily pay 20 bucks extra for even, but I don't have to, its just there for free =)
