This man’s playing is eclipsed by his heart. Not asking for money directly to him, but if you got the disc or video on the internet for free, to donate what it’s worth to you to a charity. That speaks volumes of his character.
I've always heard about Gene, not realy familiar with him. That is the thing that stood out to me about him, he seems like a real good dude, prob one of the nicest guys around.
Gene NEVER gets the respect he deserves. Anytime there’s a “greatest drummers” list put out by anyone, he is rarely ever mentioned. CRIMINALLY underrated and under appreciated 🤘🏻😈🤘🏻
@@kimhoffmannandersen5477 Fair point; most of the time, those “top drummer” lists aren’t even put together by actual drummers/musicians; let alone those who actually know and appreciate heavy music. I don’t think there is a huge difference in age between me and gene, but he reminds me of a weird zen like master grandpa, just brimming with wholesomeness, niceness and drumming chops. I aren’t even a drummer and I get my pull if this. He’s just a master musician and a jolly nice fellow all round.
No matter what band he's in you know its the atomic clock, hands down the most tasteful and influential death metal drummers. The Neil Pert reference makes so much sense.
I love the that he is truly left handed and footed! Very noticeable when he does his warm up routine. His left hand has no problem with increasing the BPM. When he comes back to the right hand, he marginal decreases the speed. Just an observation. He is a lefty, no doubt.
One of the most ingenious and inspirational drummers of all time. Play (or try to play) any of the songs on Symbolic and try to realise what it takes to come up with this stuff.
I bought this DVD years ago the extras are great too, he talked about his kit and his pedals and how he once mounted a metal boat propeller onto his kit and used to play it
@@nroks its also on the symbolic album recorded in one of the songs, can't remember which one... but I think he mentions in the extras as this is on youtube down the rabbit hole.
He have a lot of power and volume using 90%of time only wrists. Absolutely a master.i think he is the most relaxed metal drummer in history. He get out a lot of volume and power only use wrists.

Thanks for the homework and inspiration! You remind me of a kid in a candy store! Your ergonomics are amazing! He rocks as hard as he gives!
Work hard , play hard!
how so? the outcome for him is the same either way
it's called virtue signalling, and you fell for it.

Gene Hoglan wore such a heavy boots and drum accurately AF. Mind blown.

Gene Hoglan is such a great drummer and an even greater person. He's so nice and down to Earth.
Great to see Gene still kicking ass!! We went to high school together in Long Beach. Love you brother.
Gene is a legend. Watched him perform for 3 bands in one night. Absolutely legendary.
I saw him play for 2 bands one night. I want to say it was SYL and Opeth.
Incredible talent
This has to be THE most unusual footwear on a drummer I've ever seen.
His playing was so ahead of our time and unbelievably good.
He's so sickeningly good...so few of us will ever get anywhere near his playing...he's insane, a legend.
Mean Gene is my favorite metal drummer of all time!! The Atomic Clock!!
Gene seems like one of the coolest people on the planet.
Gene Hoglan seems so kind the way he talks
God level drummer and character, absolute legend
Undoubtedly the most interesting sounding Metal drummer to date. His beats just speak with the rest of the music.
