The general experience could have been smoothened out, it's so damn sluggish. So much of this game lives in spite of its age, not because of it. I'm tired. A panoramic overhaul would breathe so much new life into it. It takes a lot to uncover the beauty behind that clutter. tf2 is a glorified gacha game on life support.
Not the tf2 community gaslighting themselves into thinking community created items are the problem when lazy valve hasn't made a single actual update and there is still bots 🤦♂
I’ll publish it to the workshop to bring attention to the actual mod which will be on Gamebanana, but I very very much doubt Valve would add it. There are some pretty drastic changes in it, and Valve hates going back and changing past content, in case players enjoy how it currently looks, which is fair. This is more of a passion project and one I use myself.
@@cipherlock Lol I don't expect valve to add it, too much copium for me personally. I just want to download the mod and congratulate you for making it.
The main reason I don't care about unusuals is that I'll never be able to afford the one I want. If Valve stops adding effects outright, the supply of each individual unusual will rise making them cheaper.
When i made the decision of collecting unusual merc's mohawk, i always look at the gen 1 to 3 since new effects can't be on older hat like this one. The only exception i made was the effects from Scream Fortress VIII. Which ironically enough was the last time Valve, let new effects be obtainable in crates. Those olders effects are still praise at a very high price. Like a mercs mohawk with a Scream Fortress VI effects at almost 2k. It come to the point where copycat are let through to make quick bucks. In the end, the blame is more on Valve than anyone else.
never been a fan of unusuals and i have always thought about having an option that let me disable them in general, because as minute as they seem, they do affect performance, hats also doing the same
Another issue with unusual effects for me is.... Look, I'll NEVER be able to unbox any of these fancy new effects. So, it makes me not care for them. Like... the only unusual I've unboxed outside of glitches and 2 war paints, and an odd amount of taunts. Was the football helmet for Demo with.... The flies around it.... Yeah.... I didn't have good luck with hats.... But anyway. I do admit. New KS effects. And new warpaint unusuals could be interesting....

@@BreadTeleporterAndii well if you have an old ass computer still running windows 7 and its dogshit, thats a you problem, and you have had like 10 years to upgrade, you can get a CPU thats a million times better than the old ones for like 100$

LOOK GARY THERE I AM!!! True and real though. I'd say the primary factor in the bloat of unusual effects is Valve essentially giving up on the game post-JI (or MYM, depending on where you draw the line). We've gone from proper updates to seasonal case drops three times a year - like you said w/ FOMO, there's no reason to _not_ add 20 effects per case when they'll be locked to said case after its respective event is over anyways. Older effects had context to their inclusions and were actually scarce. Nowadays it's just bargain bin nebula #3453. I'm on the same page when it comes to "I might as well make good effects, as to ever so slightly drown out the garbage when Eric plays bingo with item submissions," but man if it isn't demotivating seeing each update's effects being composed of 90% uncurated garbo.
market oversaturation is a perfectly natural phenomena and can happen regardless of product's quality. there isn't much that can be (or should be) done about it on the community part, so stop worrying about and just continue making good stuff. if there is a decline of interest in unusuals that is worth worrying about in the long run, some action will be taken, eventually. most likely the same one that hit warpaints. as in, severe reduction of the rate at which they're introduced.
They need to focus on adding new weapons, thats the only thing that will keep the gameplay truly fresh. But i also get why they dont, they are afraid of changing the meta too much and having to fix it
i think they are alr, the problem is they feel like the major part of any update, which is valve's problem, not the unusual's. i personally currently have only 1 hat with ominous stare and i think its gorgeous (all doe im soon gonna be swapping it for a pumpkin moon). i think what unusuals need is to be more grounded and less ,,in your face" if that makes sense, like those rainbow spirals or fireworks. i think overall, the problem is the quality, quantity and the fact that theres nothing much more to an update other than maybe a few maps and 40 effects, if we get new, actual content and 15-20 effects rather than 40 i think it'd be much healthier.
1. Unusual effects dont feel special anymore becasue there is lika a billion of them ingame. 2. Most of them have a Christams or Hallowen theme to them becasue thats all we getting for years now. Most of the effects just blend into a mash of either pumkins, candycorn, bats or christmas trees, polar lights. All preaty genereic that is forgetabel after the updates over. 3. This ones least importent, but its worth a mention. Unusual effects do downgrade the game perfromance. Not by a lot,but it is a thing for people with lower end systems. Thats why Im advocating for a cosmetic on/off button for years now.
We also cannot deny competition in this space. People are VERY toxic about getting THEIR skin or THEIR effect in game. Ever since multiple people have gotten paid out 5-6 figure royalties for effects that take hardly any effort. Say I want my effect/piece of content in the game. I'd likely not recommend anything be in the game on the workshop, as to not signal boost my competition, and try to subtly influence people into the same decision. It's not just "people voting no"
Voiced my opinion on this many a time before, but unusuals really just gotta stop being added. We're better off just recycling old effects people like instead of clones of said effects. Even with me making one admittedly whatever effect, I'd much prefer if unusuals just stop getting added as a whole. If they are to add new ones. Placing more importance and value upon individual effects is a better approach. Limiting additions to no more than a few per update with one caveat, add them in a UNIVERSAL drop pool for each effect for the duration of the season. They've done it before, just make it the standard.
i don't think they should add new unusual weapon effects, what's the point when 90% of warpaints are garbage nowadays. the bloated amount of unusual effects also inflate the prices of other unusual hats due to more lower quality effect that are just recolors.
The situation effects are in just sucks. Valve crams 30+ of them into a case and players don't even like the majority of what they see. They last for that one seasonal update and then they're forgotten. A FEW new unusual effects used to be a big deal reserved for special events. Now they're crammed into every regular scheduled content pack. The game is stuffed with them, and getting yours in has never been easier. on the bright side, I think particle creators have been doing great lately in leaning away from the typical neon clouds and several color variants. I've been more impressed and excited for the effects i see now than any year before. I see much more concise, simple and thematic ideas with great execution. contrast this with the recent years of deja vu, the colorswaps and conglomerate piles of entities stuffed in to make something all flashy and pretty. So keep that up
Agreed, for the past few months it seems creators have been really trying to make new and unique effects. I hope Valve chooses those over more copy paste color swaps.
I doubt that war paints bring in millions, in a game that doesn't even pull a hundred thousand concurrent players, with many of those being bots, and many more being f2p or just not caring about unboxing paints or even hats and unusuals. Also, I may be wrong here so do take this with a pinch of salt, but if I remember correctly, particles are rendered with the CPU and not GPU, and, I'm speaking from experience here, they KILL performance on low end pcs. I used to play on a super low end computer and when a guy with an unusual joined the framerate would go from 70 to like 12 and it was unbearable. Overall good video. ♥
@jared8515 do you know how it feels see those funny effects and wanting those but the government saying no because that is what I have been dealing with trying to open crates or cases
I disagree with pretty much everything said in this video, but I do agree that valve needs to stop adding effects that look similar to ones already in game.
I will say that the amount of unusual effect creators is significantly lower than other areas, but god it really does burn you out with how Valve handles them.
honestly, i never really cared that much for unusuals. they are quite literally just cosmetics and weapons with particle effects. i'd also argue that their actual worth is nowhere near as high as people think they are. seriously, a thousand bucks for a hat with particle effects is just ridiculous, and i don't think the rarity of such an item actually justifies such extortionate prices.
Sometime they can be justified (as much as you with virtual particles), but there is a huge issue with price gouging and high-tier traders absolutely jacking up prices. Like the minimum price for a Hellfire effect is easily a few grand which is INSANE
@@cipherlock that's more or less what i'm referring to actually. there's no chance in hell some of the unusuals being sold for such ridiculous prices are really worth that much. i mean for god's sake, they are just cosmetics/weapons with particle effects. you shouldn't have to fork over all of your life savings just to get an item with particles on it. i'd understand if they were being sold for double the price of a normal version of an item, but thousands of bucks for an unusual is just ridiculous. at that point it's just a scam

So much of this game lives in spite of its age, not because of it. I'm tired.
A panoramic overhaul would breathe so much new life into it.
It takes a lot to uncover the beauty behind that clutter.
tf2 is a glorified gacha game on life support.
Not the tf2 community gaslighting themselves into thinking community created items are the problem when lazy valve hasn't made a single actual update and there is still bots 🤦♂
did I spot a parry punch for pyro's airblast in that background gameplay...
i hate the endless tide of new unusuals because they cause file bloat that most players will NEVER ever see.
Cant wait to see that mod, i really like how the community overhauls the game
It should hopefully be released in a few weeks, in the last stages of it now.
@@cipherlock Would you pursue it as officially being added to game? As by publishing it to workshop?
I’ll publish it to the workshop to bring attention to the actual mod which will be on Gamebanana, but I very very much doubt Valve would add it. There are some pretty drastic changes in it, and Valve hates going back and changing past content, in case players enjoy how it currently looks, which is fair. This is more of a passion project and one I use myself.
@@cipherlock Lol I don't expect valve to add it, too much copium for me personally. I just want to download the mod and congratulate you for making it.
bro u really made my zapped unus effect just to roast it publically dud it was my first unbox
I still have very mixed feelings about it… I wish Valve had accepted one of my other effects that I’d spent much more time on…
The main reason I don't care about unusuals is that I'll never be able to afford the one I want. If Valve stops adding effects outright, the supply of each individual unusual will rise making them cheaper.
We can't do anything about the unusuals, it's in Valve's court as to what happens in their own games.
In the end, the blame is more on Valve than anyone else.
never been a fan of unusuals and i have always thought about having an option that let me disable them in general, because as minute as they seem, they do affect performance, hats also doing the same
What is the retro style hud you use?
That’s called the “Weirdcore HUD,” it’s on Gamebanana!
@@cipherlock thanks! Also amazing video!
What an unusual problem, that is!
Medic think he Walter White 💀
Waltuh, put your crossbow away waltuh
I’m not watching the video but I use wanna share with you guys that today I saw a bot with an unusual hat
Great video cipher!
❤
you have angered the traders
womp womp
Just realized I had met you in a 2fort match (sapped unusual hat creator thingy)
nuh uh, I'm a tf2 content creator, I have never played the game before
Another issue with unusual effects for me is....
And new warpaint unusuals could be interesting....
i dont really get how its a problem if it is just cosmetics or how it hurts anything
It hurts the game readability and performance. It incentivizes Valve to be lazy and stop making content for the game. Do you even watch the video?
@@cloudynguyen6527 It hurts the performance of computers that are old asf, my computer is about 4 years old and has fairly new-ish parts for the time and i have fine performance around unusuals, might just have a shit computer. And we don't need content, we already have a bunch of weapons for 9 classes.
@@sansanimzisnotrealanymorewhat an awful point, just because YOU are fine doesn't mean it itself, is fine.
@@BreadTeleporterAndii well if you have an old ass computer still running windows 7 and its dogshit, thats a you problem, and you have had like 10 years to upgrade, you can get a CPU thats a million times better than the old ones for like 100$
@@sansanimzisnotrealanymore I don't have a shit computer, I just have an open enough mind to realise people are less fortunate than I am, and they deserve the experience the game aswell, don't they?
Aren't you quite the snappy weirdo.
3:15 HOW DID YOU MAKE YOUR PYRO DO THAT, i also wanna ultrakill parry enemie projectiles
It’s a mod over on Gamebanana, I definitely recommend it!!!
3:42 How did you use custom particle effects?
There’s quite a few over on gamebanana, they typically list instructions. However, I also make my own particle mods a lot, which are not public.
@@cipherlock I meant use them in game. I can't fine one that's not sv_pure 1.
They need to focus on adding new weapons, thats the only thing that will keep the gameplay truly fresh. But i also get why they dont, they are afraid of changing the meta too much and having to fix it
3:13 wtf was that pyro parry and where do i get it?
It's the Ultrakill pyro parry airblast! It's over on Gamebanana.
11:22 well add this to the list of these we will demand on the 26th, #fixtf2
morbius hud
I would appreciate if I could know the engineer hands mod (fp animations), thank you
3:21 what server is that map hosted on? id love to try out more custom maps!
This was an event hosted by the Edgegamers organization! They host events pretty frequently if you ever want to join in.
i think they are alr, the problem is they feel like the major part of any update, which is valve's problem, not the unusual's. i personally currently have only 1 hat with ominous stare and i think its gorgeous (all doe im soon gonna be swapping it for a pumpkin moon). i think what unusuals need is to be more grounded and less ,,in your face" if that makes sense, like those rainbow spirals or fireworks. i think overall, the problem is the quality, quantity and the fact that theres nothing much more to an update other than maybe a few maps and 40 effects, if we get new, actual content and 15-20 effects rather than 40 i think it'd be much healthier.
3:18 is that parry of ultrakill???
Yes. Yes it is. It’s mod on Gamebanana.
I remember when unusuals were impressive and had a wow factor to them, now they're a dime a dozen, not special and somewhat tacky.
Dude I need that hud and the pyro animations. pls some1 name them
bro's a murderer
We also cannot deny competition in this space. People are VERY toxic about getting THEIR skin or THEIR effect in game. Ever since multiple people have gotten paid out 5-6 figure royalties for effects that take hardly any effort. Say I want my effect/piece of content in the game. I'd likely not recommend anything be in the game on the workshop, as to not signal boost my competition, and try to subtly influence people into the same decision. It's not just "people voting no"
0:33 Morbius HUD
it's morbin time
whats the hud? the retro, vapor like hud?
13:11-13:24 What map is that?
Honestly no clue, a friend convinced me to hop in this server that I'd honestly not name, it's filled with... strange people...
@@cipherlock Aw, alright. Gonna keep looking for it then, thx m8
:O No ways!
edit: now that I actually watched the video I gotta say I agree. :c
i don't think they should add new unusual weapon effects, what's the point when 90% of warpaints are garbage nowadays. the bloated amount of unusual effects also inflate the prices of other unusual hats due to more lower quality effect that are just recolors.
i have config that turns this shit off
Nah I think it’s the bots
It’s a combination of the bots, valves negligence and some toxic people causing newer players to sometimes quit due to a bad first impression.
Bots are certainly the biggest issue, but doesn’t mean we shouldn’t recognize other problems with the game.
@@cipherlock Agreed
In a perfect world i could unbox crates and open cases but nope THE NETHERLANDS IS STILL FUCKED I GUESS

@@jared8515 valve doesn't give a shit about us
and
@jared8515 do you know how it feels see those funny effects and wanting those but the government saying no because that is what I have been dealing with trying to open crates or cases
just buy one if you really need an unusual
I disagree with pretty much everything said in this video, but I do agree that valve needs to stop adding effects that look similar to ones already in game.
Word!
first person animation mods?
It’s a mixture of animations, such as Paysus and Kylul’s overhauls, as well as Domi scout and an ultrakill pyro parry.
i dont like unusuals at all. i like more the global killstreak, is because it shines on the cosmetic or weapon or tools
I wanted to get into making fx for tf2 but also don't feel like it's even worth it, would rather love to see other people make cool cosmetics instead
I will say that the amount of unusual effect creators is significantly lower than other areas, but god it really does burn you out with how Valve handles them.
@@cipherlock interesting, I might dabble into making a single one then, would just like to see how the process for FX goes for Source 🙂
The problem is that there's too many advanced effects, how about we go back to small amounts of simple effects
honestly, i never really cared that much for unusuals. they are quite literally just cosmetics and weapons with particle effects. i'd also argue that their actual worth is nowhere near as high as people think they are. seriously, a thousand bucks for a hat with particle effects is just ridiculous, and i don't think the rarity of such an item actually justifies such extortionate prices.
