My first was dead cone orbiting planets, my 2nd was pampered pyro dead presidents, my 3rd (last) was a bombing run purple energy. And some unusual emotes. :D

actually towering pillar of hats is an all class hat with a 1st gen effect might expensive, but i checked that the hat itself isnt that expensive cause many people dont like towers but its up to you, good luck

I think aces high is very underrated. It lies near confetti, nuts and bolts, planets and fies. But i think it’s much more noticeable and good looking and fits in may loadouts (especially spy or soldier with stash)

My first unusual is a Searing Plasma Elf's Ignition. For my Pyro. I just love the plasma effects!
My biggest tip for anyone getting into unusuals is to research, research, research, the effect. While it may look good in images and previews, it may look bad or be hard to see ingame like with Searing Plasma.
It also pays to look for unusuals which have good looking hats and effects (both complimenting each other). Even if you get something like Scorching Flames, if it’s on something like the Bot Dogger it just looks awful despite the good effect.
Generally older effects are better along with older non gimmick or robotic hats
My first unusual was a frostbite stout shako given to me for my birthday by my bestfriend from elementary school. It was his first unusual unbox. My first unusual unbox was a gravelly ghoul calamitous cauldron.
Got a pumpkin party hollowed helm to make an all class pumpkin loadout along with the gourd grin and orange dead of night
my first unusual was the wing mann starstorm insonmia, looked amazing for the price it was, later then i upgraded and i bought an all class hat (cotton head) with disco beat down effect worth 40-45 keys, amazing asf

My first unusual was relatively recent, back last summer. It was a purple confetti hat for pyro, can't remember the name. It was a fishing hat though.

I found the Calamitous Cauldron to be one of those hats where you can get a unique effect for a reasonable price, and I don't see the hat really worn ever, so I guess it's just not popular? In any case, I like it and got one with Gravelly Ghoul on it.

I need a cross-comm express unusual because its my favourite hat and the only other option is to find an unusual misc that doesn’t effect my load out too much and they’re very expensive.

unusuals taunts are cheaper than unusual hats, but ofcourse for a reason. But there are some great ones out there. I really like my screaming tiger meet the medic. The medic taunt itself already nearly looks like an unusual taunt.

Second unusual: ace high defiant spartain (second favorite soldier hat)
Third unusual: Haunted ghosts razor cut (first unboxed unusual after about 6 years. one of 2 atm with the effect).
Forth unusual: '72 second rate sorcery (unboxed)
Later on I ended up getting a strange unusual cloud 9 ground control (favorite soldier hat)
Also unboxed a 5th dimension El Mostacho, cloud 9 Boston Brain Bucket, mega strike director's cut, and the new prismatic effect drunken sailor
I'm not trying to keep an unusual, I'm trying to profit off the unusual. That's what most traders try to do, but I'm thinking of keeping an unusual for a bit until I want to sell it. Still doing my research.
how do you even make profit from an unusual?i have never unusual traded but i imagine as everyone wants to make profit they will always inflate the price by a lot if you show the slightest of interest in it

Yo I’d totally go for a good tough stuff muffs or a nice modest pile of hats. Generally would recommend a nice hat with a decent effect, that’s all class for scout, soldier, and demoman

*I am super late to this but here's a few suggestions.*
Any all-class hat of your preference (With whatever effect you can afford/that you think is the nicest.) Personally, I like the Well-Rounded Rifleman a lot.
Hat With No Name is a pretty good-looking multi-class hat for Demoman, Soldier, Engineer, and Sniper
Sophisticated Smoker is pretty good for a multi-class too, for Soldier, Demoman, Heavy, and Engineer
*If you are looking for specific class hats only:*
Soldier has a lot of great hats, so it's hard to choose. If anything, just avoid something like the War Pig if you specifically want to stand out and be unique.
I quite like the Head Hedge as a cheap unusual, although it is pretty unpopular with most people I think. (It is also for Sniper as well)
Demoman doesn't have a ton hats that I personally love, but my first unusual that I bought of the Steam Community Market was a Kill-a-Watt Voodoo Juju (Slight Return) that I used to use with a Toowoomba Tunic and the Bonedolier. I also had an Unusual Mega-Strike taunt Spent Well Spirits to match with it, lol.
Scout has lots of good hats too, but I really like the Airdog. You can get a lot of really nice effects for pretty cheap, and it looks really clean (It looks a lot like a helmet that a fighter jet pilot would wear. I have it with Burning Flames, and I like to use it with the Airborne Attire and the Brooklyn Booties, makes it very military-esque.)
I am also fond of the California Cap for Scout, very clean hat that I used to run with the Aloha Apparel and the Hot Heels
Get a G Energy Reggaelator for demo, it's cool.
