I used baby powder on myself for my entire life. My mother used it when I was born and kept on through my young life. I had infertility and at 36 had pre cancerous cells in my uterus. At 38 had a complete hysterectomy. My ovaries were the size of grapefruits. I used it over my entire body. Thank goodness this woman came out and I stopped using it. At the age of 65 I am horrified that this company still has this on the market 🤨

It's a damn shame talc is so adulterated with asbestos. Now I make my own dusting powders out of corn starch, rice starch, kaolinite, and perfume. It really does help keep you feeling dry and comfortable when it's moist out. I keep it away from my lady bits though. Not to get too awkward but it's supposed to be a bit moist and it keeps itself plenty clean. Now boob sweat though, that needs powder to stop.

If I were you I would consider leaving out the perfume of your dusting powder formula as it is full of toxic chemicals!

People have been using them for centuries and i personally prefer them over the products that contain so many chemicals. Also you may be allergic to some essential oils so you have to do a patch test first and also never use them alone, only with carrier oils because they may cause a burn

As a ovarian cancer survivor myself this video is quite interesting. I was diagnosed when I was 19 years old. I asked my mom if she ever used Johnson's baby powder on me when I was little and she said yes. I do not know if that caused mine, but It has always been a thought.
It's crazy how it affected different woman. I am 33 and my mom used it on myself including all three of my sister's but all of us are doing just fine..
At one point in time ALlL babies were dusted with baby powder.

I still buy the Johnson's baby oil and powder, never had any issues with the product! I just love the scent! Marilyn would add a cap ful of baby oil and Chanel 5 to her bath water to feel luxurious!
When she was in foster care homes, during the Great Depression, she had to bathe in used water by the foster family. It was expensive to have hot water for every bath, so the family all had to bathe in the same water. Marilyn never forgot how being poor was like!
They recalled the powder becase people were getting testicle cancer from powdering their testes and ovarian and Breast cancer for women. My husbands father practically takes a dust bath in it like a chinchilla..... and hes got prostate peoblems.
@@geminisabah my grandmother used the Johnson's baby powder, and she lived to 89 years old. My mother still uses it and she will be 90 this November. I am 56, and I never had any problems. Maybe people who are prone to cancers are the ones effected by it?I don't know. My aunt (on my father's side) passed away this year at 96, longevity is probably in my DNA!

@@marianistor8163 My point exactly! Some substances effect people in different ways. That is why in the many advertisements of new medicines there are warnings to people,who have a family history of cancers,stroke,heart attacks, diabetes and circulation problems,
to discuss with their doctor if that new medicine is right for them. It's mostly to keep the drug companies from lawsuits.
Also I just remembered that tampons were found to have a toxic effect on some women ,back many years ago. I think the product is Tampax? They put a warning on the label to warn women about toxic shock that may result from using tampons.

I was born in the 60's and grew up using J & J baby powder after my bath. I used it on my children too and luckily none of us have ever had any issues.
My mother used to constantly put baby powder on her chest as well as perfumes. She passed in 2017 from breast cancer.
Do you have any idea how many women used talcum powder all over their bodies? Billions. Generations of women, all over the world. I still use it, and so does my husband. It's more pleasant than walking around with corn meal mush plastered all over your skin. Because that's what happens to corn starch when it gets damp. It turns into corn meal mush.

Just for the sake of argument, has the rate of ovarian cancer dropped since talc was removed from body powders, dry shampoos and whatever other body care uses has been stopped in the US and Canada?
This product is essential for Filipinas and is part of their makeup routine. And yet it's rare to hear any woman in The Philippines get ovarian C and they have been using this since they were kids and grew up with it.
I always check the fine print on products and if it’s produced by Johnson & Johnson (same goes for Procter & Gamble, Unilever, L’Oreal, Coty, Estée Lauder and LVMH), I don’t buy it. It sure does make buying makeup and skin care challenging 😉 I love your channel and how in depth and well researched your videos are.

I was born in 1954. My Mom had been told by our doctor not to use baby powder on little girls and not to use on herself for hygiene. My boys were born in the 1970s and I was also told not to use talc on my babies. I use bath powder today. But never breathe it in. And not talc.
They never told my mom or me and I never knew about the danger until the lawsuits. Mesothelioma is a scary disease and those who would willingly give people these issues for money are the utmost evil.
This is why Avon stopped making their scented talc powders. I miss them and wish Avon would bring them back in a safer form.
I have a bottle of J and J baby powder and it says on the front that it is pure cornstarch. It has been reformulated.

I didn't know this was a vintage hack, as a teenager I used baby powder a lot. I eventually stopped using it when I heard it caused cancer.
I am in my 60s and when I was in my teens we were told that if a young lady wanted to be fresh it was a must to use Shower to Shower. I used it for years but stopped when I learned it cause cancer.
I have 5 kids. I always preferred lotion over powder. The thought of getting powder in certain areas on my daughters bothered me.
I used baby powder that way in my teens after a cousin told me that she did it to feel "fresh and clean". I didn't use it that often but as a result of the minor usage, I still developed precancerous cells which required cryosurgery. Thank God it was detected early enough!
Same thing happened to me and that cryotherapy is next level in how cold your inside can get. I'm just thankful I'm still here and so far that's been the worst thing, that I tied to baby powder use.
I'm glad my mom didn't teach me this "hygiene" method but I do remember my mom putting baby powder in my brother's shoes because he was prone to athlete's foot if his feet were sweaty, but the baby powder kept his shoes drier I guess? Idk, makes sense, but I hope the formula was changed before this happened 😩😅

In 10 years from now it’ll be the same issue with these dry shampoos. Everyone breathing that crap in.

They make a moouse like version if dry shampoo for curly/darker hair. Mybhsir is neither but i use the moouse ones instead of the powder spray, I don't like the smell of thr powder version.
It already is. Many dry shampoo products were recently recalled due to them containing benzene.
I have one of the old J&J baby pwder twins with powder still in it. I don't open it, but I like it's vintage look.
My mother used this powder every day from the time she was in her teens till she passed in 1998 from uterine cancer! I watched her when I was little sprinkling it in her panties, on pads, an panty liner’s every time she went to the bathroom. She also used it on other parts of her body. And she told me when I was a kid that when you have a baby you have to use it on the baby after every diper change! An no I nor anyone in my family received any money from the lawsuit they told me and I quote Sorry about your mother, But since she passed in 1998 her death or cancer will not be included in the lawsuit. I was born in 1981 an I remember the shower to shower commercial!

I only use cornstarch, arrowroot, or other natural "powders". Never talc. Always check the label if you're buying powder rather than making it yourself. Some are talc, some are cornstarch, some are mixed.
Most are definitely mixed, talc and cornstarch are widespread
Talc IS a natural product - it is mined from the earth.
Asbestos and uranium are naturally occurring, too - but that doesn’t make them good for us.
I think what you mean is that you use unscented, plant-based powders rather than talc.

We used Johnson’s baby powder for a dry shampoo in the ‘70’s before blow dryers became a thing. We wore our hair long and straight. We would shake it on our hair, let it sit a little while and brush it out. It worked, and your hair smelled nice.
I used cholesterol for my hair for over 30 years and it was a magnificent healer to the hair. I wonder if it is still available. I knew all of these beauty hints in the late 1960s and 1970s. 😎

I’m so glad my family was never one to use baby powder, the only times we have ever used it from what I remember was for our shoes, keep them dry and smelling good.

I guess a lot of „old“ products are not safe now, people in previous decades just were not aware of side effects.. such as in the middle ages they used mercury for different health issues not knowing it was a poison

I used to use J&J baby powder after bathing all the time. I loved the way it smelled back then and it had a slight pearlescent glow to it giving it a luxurious look on the skin. I loved the scent of J&J baby products . I t's sad that I had le stop using my much loved powder once I learned the dangers of using the product. I also loved their Shower to Shower body powder as well. Had to give that up too. The ingredients they use today just don't have that great smell that I remember oh so well. Oh well....
I was never a big talc user. In fact I bought both Shower to Shower ( it had a great smell) and Baby powder but always thought, the smell of these products are so obvious, everyone will know I use it, so I rarely if ever used them.
On a side note, back in the early 70s, there was a cute perfume out that actually smelled like baby powder. I remember buying that but I only used it on my neck. It was pink in colour.

I have always used powder as part of my grooming even knowing the concerns . It was so important NOT to smell like a normal human being I still worry! Like everyone is out there sniffing??? Stupid
It’s in the air. No one is purposely sniffing it. As you “pat” powder on any surface of your body (especially the face using cosmetic powders) microscopic particles are being inhaled. Unless you’re wearing a very impermeable mask you’re going to inhale it. No one who’s being harmed is stupid. These companies are for knowingly hurting consumers for profit because it’s cheaper to go with harmful ingredients that are more readily available.
Billiard players would use baby powder on their hands. Excess powder would get on the felt cover. If the powder stayed on the felt too long it would eat at the material.
That's WHY it's been law suits for against this powder never thought it could be unsafe to USE

I used to use this as a dry shampoo too until I heard about the dangers of talc and that it can cause breast cancer. I wasn't aware of it causing ovarian cancer as well. I do miss how nice it smells though. Thank you Laura for this important and informative video!

I think that the skin should breath. The skin has glands that secrete sweat from the body to the surface so it evaporates and if you use talc, you certainly close these secretion barriers. I'm sure they used baby powder instead of showering every day so the powder builds up on the skin or worse: in your body.

One of my mother friends used potato flower like a dry shampoo. Especially blonde gurl :) it was in early 70s. Greetings from Poland
literally 99 % of all body powders contain talc unfortunately. I use pure perfurmed rice powder as i m vegan, for nonvegans there s silk powder (e.g. Dr. Hauschka) - unfortunately these are hard to find in stores, i only buy online.
You can get 100% cornstarch baby powder from Walmart here in the US.
"fresh and natural", "let's you be you"...their marketing was egregiously manipulative. I'm so glad J&J lost the suit.

My question was how much did they use. I have seen women that you can smell perfume, talc powder when they are coming a block away. I have seen women with so much makeup that they look like they have 10 layers on. Many women think more is better.

I adore talcum powder. My aunt use to say, once you've dusted move away so you don't breathe it in. I use femfresh too, which is made for intimate area and is corn starch. Johnson powder is still available here but I expect the formula has changed
