    One of my first make-up experiences that I can remember is my Grandma taking me to the drug store and buying me a Max Factor book that came with 3 or 5 different lipsticks. My Grandma loved Marilyn Monroe and we bonded over watching her movies and singing her songs. She passed down her love of make-up and skincare to me as well. Her skin was always so beautiful and soft, even well after the alzheimer's took over. I remember her using her Oil of Olay moisturizer, making sure to use to one with SPF during the daytime, and her Estée Lauder lipsticks, which my mom ended up giving to me when we had to move my Grandma into a care home. I held on to them for years and I'm not sure what happened to them. I'm afraid that maybe they got lost during a cleaning spree before moving. What I wouldn't give to have them now...or even just to remember what shades they were. She had a beautiful pink mauve shade and a pinky-coral shade that I remember loving the most, and her lipsticks always had flat tops and never kept the angled shape to them. I do still have a compact mirror of hers that I carry with me every day, her eyelash curler, a bottle of her Chanel No. 5 she gave me when I discovered it was Marilyn's favorite perfume, her rat-tail brush she used to tease and fluff her hair with, and her last toiletries bag-which I use every day as well. I learned so much about beauty and how to take care of my skin from her and still apply some of those lessons to my daily routine.

    Apparently she used to trace a light line on her bottom lashes and outer corners under her eyeliner to give the illusion of the shadow of her lashes which made her lashes appear even thicker etc. You can see the line in some of the pictures once you know :)

    I watched a video Erin Parsons Makeup did, about Marilyn's lipstick. Erin collects old makeup, is a makeup artist and loves anything Monroe. She actually bought 1 of her used lipsticks and some of Monroes other makeup. Erin found that she actually wore orange lipstick most of the time. It shows up as red on TV, because they couldn't get the colour correct, as colour hadn't been perfected yet on screen. Erin noted that the best dupe is Revlon Siren.

    • @Laurajaneatelier
      @Laurajaneatelier  Рік тому +5

      She also wore several shades of red that was just a dupe for the orange one she had

    I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I had no idea that her lipsticks are still available. I'm going to look into it soon. She had amazing taste in cosmetics and skin care! Thank you so much for putting this video together!! By the way, I too love Chanel #5 since a friend of my mother introduced the scent to me when I was just 16. There was no looking back!

    Her makeup case had Elizabeth Arden cream eye shadows and she used Elizabeth Arden's White Lustre cream eye shadow first and then applied the pastel cream eye shadows. She also had Elizabeth Arden eyeliners in brown and black in her case. I did not know she used Nivea cream, but I will definitely buy some and try it. You gave a very good breakdown of what she wore. She had a natural beauty and her makeup doesn't look outdated.

    I enjoyed this video ♥ But I do think Marilyn Monroe just had good genes and good skin and that none of those products were the cause of her skin looking so good. Maybe the makeup helped. I have super oily skin and cannot use most of Enro Lazlo's products. I say *most* because I haven't used them all. But when I did, I noticed my skin was breaking out. Scanned them and discovered they were full of silicone. And that powder called "Shake-It Tinted Treatment" that supposedly gave Marilyn her flawless look has talc. So, I know she didn't have oily skin. Talc and silicone are known pore cloggers for people like me with oily/acne prone skin. Sucks because I'd love to use so many of these products but they're not right for my skin type. I have bad genes, unfortunately. But...I did enjoy this video. Thank you ♥

    • @missyford1397
      @missyford1397 2 роки тому +7

      But even good genes won’t help without skincare. I come from prone to wrinkle easily so I use skincare and at 64 don’t have the deep wrinkles that all my relatives had/have.

    • @redlikewineagain697
      @redlikewineagain697 2 роки тому +6

      @@missyford1397 Well...sure. Yes, I agree. But I guess my point was (w/o it being said) was that at 36, her beautiful skin was likely due to good genes and makeup rather than skincare. If she would have lived to be in her 50s + and post menopause, then we could truly see if any of that skincare did any good. But yeah...at 64, you need skin cream, etc.

    Max Factor was the only foundation when it was available at drug stores that I would get compliments on having such natural peaches and cream complexion! Too bad I sometimes got little pimples on my forehead from using it back in the day. No wonder it was used so much in Hollywood. My sister used my Max Factor foundation and she got complimented that she looked like a dream. It really was special.
