A "blackface" era amplifier is a thing to be coveted by many guitar players, yours truly included, because they have a very distinct clean tone that when cranked can impart a crunch almost unrivalled. They make great bases for pedal setups but sound heavenly on their own. The One Control Sonic Blue Twanger has managed to capture all of the magic that these amps give and then some. You get the option also of a Rhythm/Lead switch that ups the gain by more than double for extra girth and crunch should you desire it.
In this video I place the Sonic Blue Twanger in front of my Marshall 1962 Bluesbreaker RI to see if it can transform the Marshall's sound into something more akin to my Achillies Amplification built Vibrolux Reverb replica (period correct blackface combo replica). It has no trouble. The cleans are to die for.
Björn Juhl's BJF is one of the most revered pedal companies on the planet and rightly so. He has melded minds and resources with One Control to bring you a range of small-size, big-sound production pedals built to the highest standards. I have had the good fortune to try five or six of them and they have all been outstanding. The Sonic Blue Twanger is no exception.

I actually already own this, but my reaction was basically the same as Brett's. You just get those beautiful lively blackface cleans through most amps. I keep this as the last pedal in my OD/Dirt chain right before trem/delay/reverb.

Brett: You are rapidly becoming one of my fave channels on youtube. Terrific overall production values and an engaging, informative presentation style.
And of course, you play great, comfortable with many different musical styles. :)
I also very much enjoy the variety of your product demos, especially that you include quite a lot of lesser-known gems.
    cheers and rock on...continued success!

Hey Brett, great demo as always. Would you recommend this one over Mooer #6 fender preamp, Wampler Black 65, Tech 21 Blonde? (i've got a Joyo American Sound already).

I don't know if it helps, but I've also been looking to add an option beyond the Joyo. I considered the ones you listed, plus the AMT F1. I just ordered the Sonic Blue Twanger yesterday. The tone range seems really well thought out, and the mini format is a bonus.

The joyo is incredible for the price. The Wampler is the best overall though. Absolutely nails a blackface tone even on a Marshall. But good luck finding one on the cheap.

Hi Burgs...."Long time listener first time caller"....Just got one of these Sonic Blue Twanger pedals because of your review....What do you think the little internal pots are for....TR1/TR2....The instructions are in Japanese but they look to make no metion of them either....I dont know how long I can resist not messing with them....Thought I'd ask if you knew anything....Hello to Sadie and Elisabeth too....Big Thank You Bud....

Now this pedal I like (if you read my comment on the Purple Plexifier first, the way I've phrased this will have context).

Great demo! How would you say this compares with the Wampler Black '65?

Can you play this direct to p.a.? Or, do you need a cabinet emulator?
