oh god yes, the "look in the back" is the worst
it's not a portal to somewhere with every single item just waiting - it's a room that is a fraction of the size of the shop
there is also the customer who will pick something up, change their mind about wanting it, then leave it wherever they are - like i work at a convenience store, and i have found a yogurt by the bread, i have found ice cream down the alcohol aisle - if you don't want it anymore, then put it back, IT ISN'T ROCKET SCIENCE

    • @AbbeyHowe
      @AbbeyHowe  6 років тому +7

Famedtitan1988 and leaving the ice cream out of the freezer ruins it! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Crazy. And I think it’s so funny to picture like a fantasy portal opening up in the back of a small boutique with every item you could ever want. I want to do a follow up sketch with a green screen or something where we see the “magic portal” in the back

    • @ravitrageravit
      @ravitrageravit 5 років тому +17

Eh, "look in the back" doesn't bother me. I usually just do it. I go back, stare at the empty wall, count to 60 and go back out. "Oh, I'm so sorry! We definitely don't have any size 4s in the back. Is there anything else I can get for you or help you with?" I like the myth that there's a big room of crap I have to look through when I'm really just stuffing half my lunch in my gob while I can because I don't get real breaks.

    • @monamohammad3494
      @monamohammad3494 5 років тому +3

As a customer that annoys me too. Even when I shop for clothes, when I try something on and don't like I return it immediately to its rack as someone might be just looking for this size. I really feel for shop assistants who have return this pieces back.

    • @PinkAgaricus
      @PinkAgaricus 5 років тому +1

I think this one really depends on how big the brand is. I had to do a "look in the back" at a store where the display had none in my size left and the associate on the floor told me to go and ask, in my case they did have it in the back.
I can see how that behavior is a peeve the smaller the type of store (a small boutique vs a larger store) the smaller the quantity of the items sold in the store where most likely ALL the stuff is on the floor and there really is NONE in the storeroom.

I work at American Eagle and I swear, people can be so rude. There was a lady just a few weeks ago that had a return and she had her receipt, but didn’t have the card she bought it with. At AE, if the customer doesn’t have the same card they purchased the item with, we cannot give them the money back of their card. They have to get a gift card. And this lady wasn’t having it. She claimed she had a card that was linked to the same account and she was pissed because I told her I couldn’t do that. She cussed me out in front of my managers and many other customers and told me I was being a pain in the ass. I gave her the giftcard and she stormed out. So upsetting that a grown ass woman acted so childish because I have to follow MY COMPANY’S POLICY

The phone convo is bringing me flash backs to a lady who wanted to be served and slammed her items on the counter and turned away to have her phone convo. I decided to serve other customers as it was clear that she had completely turned away and half way through she rudely says aren’t you going to serve me, told her that I’ll serve you once you get off your phone. I worked for three years at a local grocery store, and this one woman always came and PILED her cart. The main cart was more than full, the baby seat was full, she even grabbed a hand carrier, stuck it under the cart, and filled that too. Mountains of groceries. She then requested double paper bags (which are a pain to put together), and also a LIST of bagging requirements. Then, and I kid you not, I wouldn't even be done emptying the main part of the cart when this lady tells me that she is over budget. We have to dig around in the bags to find the specific thing that she no longer needs, and then some poor soul has to go and return ALL those groceries.

Been working in retail for 11 years - these past 3 years as a cashier - omg I experience that almost on a daily basis. Wish that customers use a calculator to add up their groceries as they shop then they’ll know when to stop loading stuff onto their cart. But, no, not ever the case. At checkout, once over budget, you go through the process of deleting products off the transaction until you reach an amount just below the budget. Frustrating for both the cashier and the long lines behind. Be courteous and considerate, people.

I've worked at Panera Bread for 5 years and I've been yelled at for the radio speakers playing a country song, there being broccoli in the broccoli cheddar soup, for charging someone for avocado, extra pieces of baguettes, chips, etc. While working register one day, a woman took the time to count through a lot of change only for it to be in a foreign currency.. I didn't really know what to do. The amount of people who walk behind the Employees Only counter where we make the food is crazy and a health hazard, but get mad when we tell them to leave. People will eat their whole sandwich except for a bite and be like "This wasn't made right, I want a new one". Some people even order their food to-go, then say they wanted to eat it here, but refuse to give us their bag back so we can put it on a plate and stand there until we make them extra free food. I never knew there were people like this in the world until I worked there. They expect us to give great outstanding customer service but what about service from the customers they should treat us with respect as well because we’re trying to do our job and the job that I work at their certain questions that I have to ask that’s a mandatory when I check them out and it’s hard for me to ask those questions so they won’t miss out if they are on the phone it’s just called being polite it’s not necessarily a rule but it’s just common decency respect people’s jobs basically is what I’m saying

My worst customers were the ones who had the title of the book wrong (usually of a fairly popular/famous book), but absolutely refused to believe they were wrong and treated ME like the idiot for not knowing the book they were talking about. Customer: Ummm....I'm looking for 'To Kill a Mockingjay'. Me: Oh. Ummm, do you mean 'To Kill a Mockingbird'? Customer: I'm pretty sure it is 'To Kill a Mockinjay'. Me: Mockingjays are actually a made up bird from Hunger Games. Are you looking for the third book of the Hunger Games series or is this from a required reading list or something? Customer: Yeah, my 8th grader has to read it. Me: Pretty sure it is 'To Kill A Mockingbird' then. We have it right... Customer: NO! You are wrong. I looked at the title before I came. Don't you have all the school's required reading lists or something? This is ridiculous. Me: We actually do have some school reading lists. What school? Oh here it is. 8th grade. Yup. 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. Customer: I'm going home to double-check. Me: Okay. Have a nice day.

Just came across this video. Great Work.
I work at Walmart and I swear I hate my life every freaking second when I am inside that store. There was this one customer who was probably in her 40-50s. She bought this alcohol that requires me to enter age no matter how old a customer is. When I asked her for ID she was like, “Are you kidding me ? Don’t you have eyes. My hair is white. I have wrinkles. You brainless idiot. Can’t you see I am over 40. Idiot.” There was big line of customers and I felt so embarrassed. I swear i could not control my tears.
I also hate customers who gives you extra change when the transaction is done. Like dude it’s done. I now can’t accept your extra coins just to give you perfect cash.
They leave bathrooms a mess. Like seriously the guy who cleans the bathroom is my friend. Just imagine what goes through him when he has to clean that mess.
Walmart has this spinning things for bags and kids keep spinning them all the time. I have to put stuffs in the bag and the parents won’t say anything either. When they spin the thing, it keeps hitting my elbow and man it hurts.
Wish customer knew we are humans, we have life and we have emotions.

Parents are the worst. We had those who would let their children run riot filling up their own trolleys that were never intended to be purchased just so mum could shop in peace. Or the parents who see their child destroy an item (shake up a dessert for example, it won't affect the taste but others will no longer buy it) and then make their child run and swap it for a perfect one.

    Nope not getting one

The customers that get on my nerves is the ones that bring a jillion items into the fitting rooms and they just throw items on the floor “expecting” workers to clean it up for them. Seriously I work retail for years and I shop as a customer myself and it really hurts me to see how disrespectful people can be towards retail staff. Honestly the rack is right outside! It doesn’t hurt to have some courtesy to put it BACK where you found it!
And the customers that complain about things I cannot change. The price, the sale at the time, what coupons are excluded from what.... The list goes on. You would think that some people would know that a regular sales associate with no say in how the store functions can’t do anything about it right? But no they expect you to call over a manager only for the manager to tell them the exact thing the associate just said. Seriously, there should be no reason why customers should be rude to retail workers. They deal with so much pressure on a daily basis and customer service is a very mentally stressful job. The more considerate you can be with a retail worker, the better service you will get. It never hurts to be polite. If you’re one of those rude customers chances are you’ve never worked retail or a customer service job in your life.

One thing I can say is PEOPLE GET OFF THE PHONE when you go to the cash wrap to pay for your items. It's so incredibly rude to the person behind the counter. Give them the same respect and curtousy you would want. And stop going into a stores 5 minutes before closing for "just a minute to look" and hold that person back from their closing duties for 30 or more minutes. Those people have a time limit to be out of that store, there are a million things to do, and they have been on their feet for hours. Btw, I'm out of retail now, hallelujah lol. And I always try to be a good, thankful, respectful customer after all my years in retail.

I worked a few retail jobs while I was in college, but my first, and the worst, was Robinson's-May. This was already an upscale store in an upscale area, and I worked in an expensive department. I kid you not, 99.9% of the customers were rude, snobbish, entitled people, who thought they were better than me. I had one lady who was on her phone when she reached the register. She was just talking away, and didn't even acknowledge that I greeted her. I proceed to ring her up and when I try to tell her the total, she holds her hand up, clearly telling me to be quiet because she was on the phone. I wasn't having it, and in a raised voice, (not shouting, just louder than I needed to be), I gave her the total. She finally stopped talking on the phone, and looked at me as if she couldn't believe I would interrupt her oh-so-important conversation. I merely smiled back at her politely as she handed over her credit card.

I work at a certain coupon-happy store where all of our coupons are sent out daily via email, are online, and through fliers. And yet, almost none of my customers come to the register with their coupons ready, even if they've been standing in line for 5+ minutes because every other jerk in front of them has done the same thing. So then they have to pull their phone oooout, dig through their email to find that, whoops, guess they deleted it! Then make me guide them through the process of finding it on the website. And, lo and behold, it won't apply anyways because the coupons don't work on sale priced items and people don't bother to read. If people just a) read the print on the coupon and b) read sale signs, I could move customers through my line twice as fast.

What I do on no6, after knowing it's not back there is go to the back and stand for a few minutes, then turn around and come back out saying we're out.
Beats having a mindless argument with the customer after you literally have no inventory of it in the back.
I've been working in retail 20 years. I've seen it all.
One time me and my husband was at a grocery store, not Walmart, and a customer was complaining to the produce help that the bananas are cheaper at Walmart. And the poor guy is just steadily shaking his head.
He's just the help. He's not management. Nothing he can do about it. If the store doesn't compare prices, go where you know it's cheaper.
After she left, me and my husband had walked up to the guy and told him it's OK. That we were both Produce Managers and go through that same thing nearly every day. This guy actually gave a sigh of relief and told us. "Thank you"

I asked a co-worker for help, and she said, “Just press F6.” As I’m looking for the button, the customer says, “DID YOU NOT HEAR HER? SHE SAID PRESS F6.” I’m standing there like, “Oh. Do you want to clock in since you know how to run this shit?” 🙃
Another lady tried to return clothes that were clearly worn (dirty) and missing tags, so I told her we couldn’t accept them. She began to cuss me out and say, “Well, I don’t have a need for them anymore, so what the FUCK am I supposed to do with them!?” ... Lady, I don’t care what you do with them, I just know you’re not getting your money back for these musty clothes. 😐
And if the return date has passed, tags are missing, or they don’t have their receipt, I explain our return policy to them which results in them storming out and yelling, “I am NEVER shopping here again, you’ve just lost a customer!!” This isn’t a tiny ass boutique, this is a corporate retailer. Losing one customer who spends an average $22 doesn’t mean shit. 😂

With each purchase, we give out coupons for their next purchase. I once processed a lady's entire transaction, and then placed the coupon in the bag. Her husband asked what it was, I explained it. He then told his wife to return EVERYTHING they just bought, and buy it again for the 10% off or whatever they could get. She clearly just wanted to leave, but her husband insisted. So, with a long line snaking down the aisle, she returned, then bought everything again with her coupon. But I don't need every employee working that day to ask me in a span of 45 seconds. Back off! One of my favorite stores I usually end up leaving before I'm done browsing because I get annoyed by the employees. I know it's the company policy but it drives me nuts

I’m pretty sure customers think that the backroom is a magical place containing large amounts of excess stock as far as the eye can see, when all it is is a dingy room with maybe 2 to 3 boxes of excess stock and a breakroom.

I worked at a shoe store where we kept all the inventory on the floor, like Rack Room or Off Broadway. People ALWAYS thought we had more inventory. But even though the stock room was a fraction of the size of the rest of the store they just KNEW we had the show they wanted in the size they needed waiting on a shelf in the "back." We were just keeping it to ourselves because, somehow, that's good for business.

The cell phone person is eventually going to cause "please shut off your phone so we can serve you better", like in hospitals.
Another annoyance are customers that take something they want and move it somewhere else so no one can find it, but them. I just feel like going there after the person walks off (to probably do it again somewhere else) and putting it back where it belongs. I know you're trying to save that, but that is kind of rude. That is annoying also being a fellow shopper.

Personally, I strongly believe that EVERYONE should be required to work retail...especially at that particular time of the year. Not meaning to make this a form of punishment for them (although that has crossed my mind a few times), but to simply (and hopefully) provide them with some understanding regarding what retail workers are subjected to on a regular. I realize this may be somewhat idealistic, but the customers who showed me the most empathy were people who had actually worked retail in the past. They could truly feel the pain.

I loved your video! I worked at Wal-Mart for 4 years. Wal-Mart attracts the dregs of society. This story is one of the worst I have in my arsenal. Beware It is a long story. Enjoy!
A couple and their 7 year old daughter approach my register. The first thing the woman says when she reaches me is "can ya call up the deli and order me some potata salad?" I said "no ma'am. You would actually have to go to the deli and tell them what size you want, get a barcode for it and bring it to the register." To which she said "so you don't have their number?" "Ummmm yes ma'am I don't have their number."
So she starts to unload her cart onto the belt. Harmless enough right? WRONG! She has a full cart and she starts to go through it to determine what she does and doesn't want! A good 1/4 to 1/3 actually makes it onto the belt. The rest gets put on the floor, on top of the drink cooler, up with the candy and gum, on other registers, etc. You name it she put it there. Well at one point she picks and drops a pack of 12 count canned soda, which of course caused some of the cans to burst and make a mess. She sends her bf/husband back to get another pack. She hands me a few more items to scan. I looked down for a second. When I looked back up she was gone! She had left her 7 year old at the register alone! No mother and no father. Her cart was still half full. She hadn't taken anything off the bag table. The entire surrounding area was a mess. And to top it all off I now have a child in front of me, who of course wouldn't tell me where her mom had went or talk to me at all!
So I put in for a CSM to come to my register. You guys know how long it takes for a manager to come help you. I figure the manager or one of the parents would eventually show up, maybe. I wait a few minutes when the kid suddenly starts to walk away with the half empty cart. I was not about to let a child wonder around alone in the store. So I went and grabbed the front of the cart and guided it and the child back to the register. I told the child that we were going to put the rest of the stuff in the cart on the belt and put the bagged stuff into the cart and all mommy will have to do when she gets back is pay. So we start to do that. One minute or so later the woman comes back, sees me putting the items on the belt, and starts to yell at me for touching her stuff. I don't like yelling and confrontations. So I just shut down. I didn't look at her. I didn't acknowledge her in any way. When she saw that I wasn't even paying attention to her she quickly finished her transaction and left.
Do you want to know why she left? What was so important that she left her child with a complete stranger and didn't say a word? Yup! She had gone to get her all important potata salad!

I worked in retail for three years and I can say this is true. I used to have this repeat customer, she would come in and buy around $100 worth of clothes then try and return them a few weeks later, but they always smelled like pee so we could never take them back. Another time, this woman came in with I shit you not 2 shopping carts full of returns and all the items spaned 3 receipts. but she did not return them right away, she waited till we closed to come to the check out with her new basket of purches. so we had to return a shit tone of items them ring up all her new stuff, plus as I was doing the return she was still shopping, she grabbed a bunch of clothes off the rack then decided she did not want them so she handed them to me. then another time, this lady came in with a bunch of clothes to return and repurchases because we had lowered the prices. Safe to say, I no longer work in retail.

There isn't anything wrong with politely listening to a retail worker's informative chat and declining help, btw. Or stating that you are indeed just looking...Customers do not always know precisely what they are shopping for, I browse with a general idea and only ask for help if I can't find the section is will be in. That being said, it isn't ok to be snarky and rude to retail people doing their jobs.

I had this couple try to return a half-empty bottle of fabric dye. No receipt either, not that I think it would have mattered. It was a guy at first, I explained we couldn't take the item back, he leaves, comes back with a women, and she almost-slams the bottle on the counter and tells me she wants to return it. Her excuse for the half bottle missing was she "tried a little to test dye a small spot", but wanted to return it cause it wasn't the right color and "completely ruined" what she wanted to dye. A pillowcase, I think. Of course it was the exact color the little color mark on the bottle said it was, so how it was the "wrong color" I don't know. And I don't know how many people have dyed things before, but you don't use half a bottle on a test patch. Of course she was on the war path, so I had to call over a manager who basically repeated what I'd been telling her. She (customer) began to shout and cuss at that point, and was promptly asked to leave the store. I also liked your phone one. Happened to me so much I just started talking over them, which at least gets them to pay attention so they can leave and finish the conversation. You also sometimes get them to hang up and they'll them say they hate when other people are on phones at checkouts. Basically saying they hate when others do what they just did, therefore hate themselves... You see the ugly/rude/lazy side of people a lot in retail...

I recently worked seasonal cashier at Kohl's. One night, a couple who had been waiting in line came up to my register. Instead of deciding whether or not purchase a particular item of clothing while they were actually selecting it, they waited until they got to my register to debate the subject between themselves. The wife asked her husband to try on that particular garment to see if it would fit the person they were wanting to buy it for. When I looked questioningly at the woman, she replied with, "It's okay. She: "So you will not give me a discount?!"
Me: "Sorry, we don't have any discounts like that here."

    Me: "Sorry, it's not possible."
She (blabbering about how rude I am and how unfair this is): "We drove so long to get here and you are telling me, you are not even going to give me a discount?!"
Me: "Sorry, there is no way for me to create a discount, I don't own the store I just work here."
She: "But like you can give me something for free, right?! What about this?"
Me (internally screaming and wanting to murder her on the spot)
Normally, I would probably just ignore it but it was afternoon after five days at work, I didn't sleep much during the whole week and I forgot my lunch at home, so I was starving. Also, she obviously didn't need a discount considering how many stuff she could afford to buy.

I’ve worked retail for almost half my life. I barely have any horror stories, but I honestly think that’s because someone’s advice worked near perfect for me.
Politeness, consideration, and a positive attitude (even if you have to fake it) go a long way in thankless jobs. You won’t be able to please the unpleasable, but at least you did your job and they can’t take that away from you.
My horror stories are more funny to me though, usually because someone says hilarious afterward or something happens that’s hilarious.
I was about to clock out but my shift still had 5 mins left, so I helped a cashier with bagging since all the courtesy clerks were bagging elsewhere. After I was done, a lady came in with an ad and was displeased she didn’t get the sales deal. The cashier I helped came over since she was a pro at the ads, and stated that the deal was a 5 for $5 Friday deal. It was Saturday or Sunday. The lady huffed, tossed the ad to the floor, and stormed out of the store.
Me: well at least she didn’t try to make use eat the ad for lunch.
Cashier: funny cause I’m hungry and shame on her, I could have totally given her that discount.
At my current job, I’ve had about 3 male customers (not related) who have had some of the worst attitudes I’ve encountered.
    1) Maybe mid-late 20’s. He literally got in line the moment the previous customer was pulling out his card and I was handing the bag the customer. This guy was already tapping his foot like he had been waiting in line for an hour. As I was ringing him him, he was mumbling in a way that he just couldn’t be bothered with time. He paid in cash, as I was collecting and counting his change, he began to rant about how much he hated the store and how slow everyone was. I decided to be sarcastic (boss warned me about him and said if he’s hostile, I can tell him to immediately leave). I told him, “damn, don’t you just hate super long lines at busy hours?” He didn’t say anything in return, just left and I haven’t seen him since.
    2) This was an elder gentleman who basically just hated the world because it wasn’t like it was when he was younger. There wasn’t a line, so I let him rant. The ranting turned more into a quick conversation with me saying his opinion was valid, but only because a lot of people want instant gratification and feel entitled to such, and most don’t know exactly what it’s like to do hard work for living for little pay. After that day, when he comes in, he smiles at me, might rant a little if there’s time. Once he apologized and I said it was okay, everyone needs a hater-moment with someone who is actually willing to listen. Now he’s a regular at the store.
^^ my boss overheard me say that and had to go back into the office to laugh. She couldn’t believe I said “hater-moment” to an elder man. I just told her, I knew my audience and that might be me when I get older. He may hate the world, but he doesn’t have to hate shopping there.
    3) This is my favorite cause it has a happy ending. Another elder gentleman who just was grumpy all the time. He’s a regular, checked him out a few times when it’s my shift, always made sure to smile when he’s there. Then one day he purchased a chimichanga and I decided to open a conversation. I told him I loved chimis and was a little jealous cause I had to wait another hour to eat something. He laughed! Next time I checked him out, I found out why he was grumpy when shopping there. He needed a job, applied there, and never got a call back. I told him to apply again and handed him an application, but warned him that I wasn’t sure what kind of employees the store was looking for. Sadly he wasn’t hired, the good news is that he got a job shortly after that encounter. Now he brings his wife there to go shopping, and always makes sure to say bye to me even if I wasn’t the one to check him out. He’s so much happier now when I see him.
Sorry for long comment, I just really liked this video and wanted to share my less dramatic horror stories. Lol.

Abbey Howe - and thank you! I love the video and the satire.
To be fair, with my current job that is, I don’t have as many horror stories is mostly due to the managers and co-workers being great to work with. We get a lot of regulars that have great senses of humor, so I get to test my own humor for them and see if it sticks or not; only one joke of mine has bad ratio of working.
Most of the (repetitive) annoying saying customers say are usually followed by me saying just as sarcastic. Like the good ‘ol “I guess it’s free” line when an item refuses to ring up. I usually just reply with a playful “you wish”. Or if it’s a regular that I know has an awesome sense of humor, I’ll do the comical evil laugh and hit the button on the register that just marks the item if it won’t ring up and the UPC isn’t recognizable. That way, no matter how many times I hear that freebie line, I’ll have something to back it up with that doesn’t drive me crazy.
When I was working at other places in retail, I wasn’t a cashier. I stocked, helped with go-backs sometimes, did some tagging once a week, and also did some personal shopping for the online orders. The major difference between those places and where I am now is the staff environment. Whenever managers did the corporate chain of command stuff, it sucked and didn’t help the hourly workers, and it caused most to be bitter. Here if that happens, no one is really bitter. Might get some mini rants, but it doesn’t effect the overall good environment and moral.

And the best one was when, on the day before the one day the store is closed for the year, (Christmas), someone took a bunch of the gallon containers of ice cream and stuck them in a display armoire. We didn’t find out this had been done until the store was reopened on the 26th.
