      @Nicholas You need to practice and believe that one day you'll get results. It may be that because I'm a younger guitarist, I'm able to get some progress and results within 1 or 2 weeks of practice. Good luck though.

    • @gabren6141
      @gabren6141 2 роки тому +15

      @Nicholas I should also say that leads are not "harder" than rhythm. Usually guitarists start out by playing the basic riffs and rhythms, and only later try playing solos and leads. Some people think that it's harder simply because they don't put as much time practicing and playing solos compared to riffs.

      I mean, you're a 13 yr old kid with a multi-hundred dollar guitar and prob amp too. Someone must've believed in you enough. Kids go through phases, it's not completely out of the realm of possibility that this guy's parents thought that's what it'd be. The percentage of kids who practice instruments at a young age then give up pre/during adulthood is a majority. Not many of them are joining touring bands at age 19.

      deftgoose, I'm also just starting out. Actually, I have my first lesson in a few days. I'm 52 now. I got my guitar in 1990 when I was young, but circumstances made it impossible for me to get very far at the time. I always planned to come back to it, and now, 30 years later, I'm about to do just that. When the video talked about letting other people dragging you down, and never giving up on your dreams, that really cheered me up. Maybe I'm running a fool's errand here, but if I could just learn to play well enough to find some friends that I can get together with and play a little metal music, I'd be so happy about that. I've been a music listener all my life--and as heavy metal fan since I was a teen in the 80s, but I've always been a listener. I just want to try to make a little music of my own, y'know?

    I turned 47 this year and have been playing the guitar since high school. I always wanted to be a shredder like you, but over time I've slowed down, and you know what? It's not a bad thing! Where I once dreamed of learning the Megadeth solos in Holy Wars I now dream of playing like Chris Buck. So much feeling, so much more emotion than just anger. 100% it's each to their own but massive props, congratulations (the UA-cam algorithm brought me here!) and really happy that you're happy and proud of yourself, full stop!

      don't worry man nobody plays and enjoys neo-classical metal anymore. I used to shred crazy when I was 20-21. Now I am 42 and I enjoy blues more. And my opinion Albert King was the greatest guitar player who ever lived.

      I'm in the same boat. Turned 46 last October. I'm not a shredder. I can throw a solo out if absolutely necessary, but I prefer rhythm. I have noticed my dexterity has diminished. Malcom young to someone else's Angus if you will. I find myself using hammer-ons and pull-offs a lot more than I used to to compensate. I play within my limitations and have fun with it.

    The jump from 2003 to 2005 is INSANE! What exactly did you change about your practice routine in 05 when you started to take it more seriously? That alone was impressive! Very cool video, also shows that people don't "blow up" from one day to the next, it's hard work for many years until you are finally good enough that recognition starts to pile up.

      Just play and learn new stuff. If you keep learning harder stuff you will get better. Like said get in the mind set and just keep pushing. From what I've seen people get stuck looking for techniques to practice and practice routines. To be honest I never really cared about that I just played stuff I liked and wanted to learn. I'm also interested in theory and read about it, I'm also teaching myself to write standard notation because why not I wanna know it. So far I can tell you for me writing the notes is not hard but reading the notes is harder. I'm no professional by any means but I won't get lost on the guitar.

      @@fancwings6134 I'm sure he put massive amounts of time and effort but there's got to be more to it than than bro. The majority of people I've known that play guitar took many more years to reach that point than what we see in this video of Bernth's progress. I for one didn't have the benefit of having better guitar players around me to show me stuff. It definitely helps to have a mentor.. and can slow you down greatly if you have to figure everything out for yourself. A good practice regimen is key.. but you can't just do the same things forever.. especially without getting bored. Sure, we have the internet and UA-cam today but that wasn't the case when I was in my teens or even my early 20s.. and when you get older you don't have nearly as much free time as you did when you were younger. I think the person asking this question is trying to outline a plan or improve upon an existing one after seeing Bernth's impressive leap forward in such a short period. Responding by saying to dive in with no limits isn't really saying much. It's safe to say we all know that practice is first and foremost.. and lots of it.

    You're the real deal brother! Hope all your dreams come true! I'm happy just being able to achieve my goals and get past the hurdles and become a better guitar player. Your videos are a huge help. Especially being born in the early 90s we were all mostly self taught. You really helped me figure out the things I was doing wrong and how to change them. I am very grateful! Thanks!

    That’s awesome you have footage to share with us all. Wish I still had mine when I first started playing drums ! First day I ever played was on my birthday and the old lady neighbor came over and asked if can stop playing all together. My dad said no, and she and her husband ended up moving. As I got older I told people no, and I play regardless what people think as long as I don’t break any noise violations. I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t think to much about what people think just keep playing and do you cause a lot of people who don’t play an instrument think music is made in a small dark quiet closet.

    Ive been playing since i was 14 im 48 now. I lost the passion for actually growing, and learning, but watching your vids has kinda lit a fire back to the shredder in me. I love rhythm more and all different genres, but the neoclassical in me has never died. I look forward to learning to get my picking hand and finger independence back to what it should be. Great stuff dude!
