You’re an inspiration to people like me that have bills to pay and a limited amount of time to practice. I’m in my fifties and started playing about 15 years ago. Was raising three children, working full time, and doing all those things that have to be done around the house. Without you and those like you that take the time to put out truly great instructional videos, a lot of beginner and intermediate guitar players would probably stay stuck or give up the guitar completely. So from me, I say thank you sir!

I've had my guitar for 20 years, an extremely cheap Squire Strat and in the last three weeks I've played it more and tried to learn more than I have in the entire time I've had the guitar. Your channel is one of the first I came across and it's helping me want to keep pushing through the beginning stages of learning. Sometimes your mind is the biggest mountain to climb. Thanks Bernth, Inspirational to many.
Almost the same(bought cheap J&D LP for like 120$ 12 years ago), and now finally started learning all the stuff in music school, and seeing the progress it brings a lof of joy to my life. And Bernth is one of few youtubers I watch on regular basis(and gain knowledge and practice exercices), so can only add my thanks to Bernth, really great stuff.
Old squires are betted than current base model fenders. Ash/alder body, rosewood fretboard, now that rosewood is a semi protected species only the higher end fenders have them.

In reply to that comment you shared: I've been playing since ~2007. I grew up with a comfortable life, and have managed to gather a few thousand dollars of gear over the years. Guess what, I still suck!
Bernth's videos have helped me over the past year or so. I've learned more in the last year than I have in the previous 14. I would have progressed much faster with a $100 guitar from the pawn shop and disciplined practice from day 1.
Afterthought, that comment has much more packed into it. I'm moreso addressing the ability to play guitar. There is some truth to what they were saying, I'm not trying to dismiss it completely.
Same, my dad bought me a cheap Squier when I was 17 and due to lack of discipline I didn't advance much in my playing until like 4 years ago, now I'm 30

I'm 31 right now. My first guitar was a Teisco that has a little family history with it, that I got when I was 13. I have been playing since then and my parents really help me with gear and lessons all up to 18, but I wasn't disciplined enough to push my skill and really be more than a rhythm player. I don't really feel the desire to learn to sweep or anything, I enjoy what I am able to play but fully understand I am what holds me back, not a lack of gear or training. I like how Jocko Willink puts it "true freedom comes from discipline".

Mindset is one of the most important factors in doing good in anything, there are people who's careers is to make high performing athletes have better mindsets, if you ever want to do anything at a high level you have to have a dedication and a near obsession with what you're trying to do. Once you have achieved what you're hoping for it makes it much sweeter if you know you had to work for years and years to do it. Great video Bernth, you're a great inspiration to many!
Near? You have to be obsessed. Addicted to what you want to do. The most successful guys in all fields were obsessed freaks to many people because some people cant fathom the dedication they had.Even I cant. I always knew my lack of practice and dedication was what hindered me of being a much better musician than I am. To already excel sometimes you just need a few minutes a day and consistency. But to be the best? Boy you have to manage to fit 30 hours in a 24h day

Good for you. My band broke up, and it crushed me so badly I didn't play guitar for almost 12 years...I just bought a new axe and started playing again. It's amazing how much I forgot, but the biggest thing is how good it feels to get back into it. Having that proper mindset is vital.

This is a wonderful message to the community, man. You shed a ton of light on issues that musicians need to address about themselves in order to not only be successful, but just to maintain being a decent human in the typical struggles in life. Nowadays, although I'm very happy for them, I envy the fact that these younger musicians (especially guitarists) have all of this information just handed to them with a click of a mouse. I'm 34 (just turned 34 on the 11th) and when I was a teenager, all of this wasn't around. I had ultimate-guitar tabs and didn't even discover the play-along tab programs until I was 18. I never signed up for guitar lessons before that because I didn't actually know what all could be done on a guitar, so I never realized that I needed them. I believe that this was a huge problem for many guitarists back when this was still true. I could hear the techniques from other musicians and songs as one big blur, like legato, sweeping, tapping, etc., but never knew how to identify them by their specific sound and technique, so I never sought out to learn how to play the techniques myself; I just thought someone was playing "really fast," and that was it. Up until I was nearing 18, I taught myself chords and in time, very basic solo techniques. My idol at the time was Teppei Teranishi from Thrice (and will always respect him for his MAJOR influence on me back then and still now), and his style reflected right onto me. I pretty much plateaued here though because between the released albums at the time, Teppei didn't do sweeping, legato, alternate picking, economy picking, hybrid picking, etcetera. So when I eventually downloaded an old Avenged Sevenfold song on the tab program at 18 and started (painfully) learning the solo, things changed dramatically. It was incredibly hard to decipher at the time, but I stumbled my way through it and started to see what really could be done. At this point, UA-cam had some tutorial videos, albeit the ones I found were really, really bad ones. I still could at least get the idea for the techniques from these videos. I learned a horrible way to sweep pick and had to correct my horrible technique when I came across a quality video a year or so later. This tainted my view because I was too worried to fall victim to other bad tutorials, so my progression slowed down again, drastically. These were very real and very major problems back then. Now, we still have these bad tutorials, but they're overshadowed by quality ones such as yours. I can tell that you are sincere when you say that you want everyone to reach a top tier level and that you believe they can. And man, with all of these videos that you have provided the community, that is exactly what you are doing. There is no telling where I'd be right now had I had access to lessons and advice at 16, like what you provide here on your channel. Despite it, you've helped to pull me out of a slow progression over the years and I've been practicing and playing more and more every day now. You really are giving everyone an edge, especially the younger players. Mad, mad, mad respect to you man. You give a new tone and definition to the term "Guitar God," because it's obvious that you want everyone to be one as well. And most importantly, you show and explain that we all can actually achieve it if we put the time and effort in. Thank you Bernth.
BERNTH I’m so thankful for you. I already knew the importance of relaxation but didn’t fully incorporate it in my legato. Your frequent new videos helped me stay focused even when I wasn’t in the mood and it really helped me in my every day discipline. The world today is unable to focus longer than TikTok videos and I’m glad to say I’ve been with you over a year. Most likely most will be behind the keyboard doing this same crap in 5 years unless people want to realize the one thing they don’t want to.. You got to realize you don’t know shit and be willing to re-learn techniques or you will be forever at a standstill. Keep it up brother you are the one who pounds this into videos. I'm an old gal that has been toying at learning classical guitar in my limited free time. ("Essential worker putting in 70+hour weeks) Your videos caught my attention some weeks ago, the ones where you showed your 4am routines to work one skill. I subscribed immediately. I just bought my first electric guitar at 53 and am so excited to find this community and and your courses.

Great video! Thanks for the positive reinforcement. I went to college right out of high school on a music scholarship and totally squandered it for various reasons. Over the many years since, I've always lamented about this and played with the idea of going back and trying again because it would be so awesome to be able to spend all my time on music. I finally realized I don't spend the time I already have available on guitar and music very well at all, and what I really need is discipline and sacrifice. School would be nice, but the mindset will take me way further. Developing that mindset is a skill in itself, and what is most important. I wish I had figured that out years ago, but I'm glad I finally am. It's exciting to see how much faster I'm progressing after years of half assed practice and feeling like nothing is happening.

BERNTH, you're awesome. Thank you for putting this content out, it has inspired me to get serious about my guitar playing. I've been in a couple "bands" but never got anywhere past learning how to play a few specific riffs from a few specific songs. I bought a used bass about five years ago because I wasn't confident enough to go for all six strings, but now I'm thinking about going whole hog with it and getting a six-string. I've always been passionate about music, but I never devoted much effort into it. You have imparted upon me the confidence to go for it and stick with it. I'm more financially restricted now then I was before, but you're right about having the drive and diligence to keep working hard at it. Thank you for all the effort you put into teaching those of us with much less experience.

This is beautiful. I totally respect all the hard work and sacrifice you put into chasing your dream, and making a living off of your passion. What could he better than making a living doing something that you love, and would be doing for free in yout spare time anyways. I also tell younger people to take their interests and hobbies seriously and stick with them.
Making a career out of (atleast one of) my passions is the biggest goal I have, and I realize after watching this that I very much need buckle down and stop procrastinating/ wasting time. My passions are guitar, sleight of hand (close up magic, mostly with cards and coins) and modern (Neo) Pagan religion/ spirituality/ Pagan Revivalism/ Witchcraft and the Western Mystery Tradition (which includes Hermetics, alchemy, ritual magick, kabbalah, tarot cards, divination, witchcraft, ancient Greeek and Egyptian religion/mythology, Gnosticism, Neoplatonism, theurgy, sorcery, traditional witchcraft, wicca, Solomonic magick and ritual evocation of demons and other spirits, as well as on the flip side, invocation of pagan dieties/ Godforms and the summoning of angels). The later interest may seem funny/ odd to some and like a useless endeavor, but it is a subject I have always been fascinated by 🧐, and as well getting involved with the local music and punk/ metalhead scene 🤘, I have gotten involved with local pagan groups, wiccans, etc. I do not like organized religion/ religious institutions, but I'm not an athiest, and I have found nature-based pagan (pre-Christian) religious practices and indigenous spirituality (shamanism, mysticism, magic, meditation, energy healing, herbalism, plant lore, soul travel, astral projection, tantra, yoga, theurgy, evocation, traditional witchcraft and sorcery, etc.) to be fulfilling in a way that going to church on Sundays is not. I am a skeptical minded person and I like to test things out for myself, experiment with things, etc. I think that's what I like about traditional spirituality, is that it is experience based. Theres no priest or intermediary.
I'm not going to get too much into it here, but there is a rather large worldwide pagan revival happening right now, and plenty of people who are interested in these kinds of things. I'd like to write some books on the subject, or make pagan products, start a website, a group or coven, teach classes on magick and witchcraft, either online or on person. I'd also like to become a professional musician, and a semi-professional slight of hand artists.
I'm not sure which one (or two) of my passions are going to become something I can make a living off of, but I definitely want it to be atleast one of the three, and I intend on pursuing the other two as a personal hobby either way.
I'm going to start really taking guitar more seriously though. And keep working on the sleight of hand routines 😉

Hey Bernth, your story remind me my experience. Already I kinda knew what you were going to tell, definitely the mindset is the basementof a musician's career. Unfortunately the years when I was active were the worst for the music industry, none of the guys i know at that time has "made it", my school was very expencive at that time, and I hadn't any family support, so i was working 8 hours, 6 days per week. I had a band that got labeled by a indie we recorded a 11 tracks album, but i never saw a cent coming into my pocket from those gigs... It tooks me 20 years to realize that the only guilty for this failure was me. But it's fine it will took some time and extra efforts to do what I love. A special thanks goes to you, 2 years ago I stumbled in one of yours videos, and it triggered me to take again my guitar and finally start learning how to shredding seriously.

You're quite inspiring! I just bought a guitar and have been looking through your videos in order to learn. I do 3D modeling and I'm kinda going through what you were - I post something to very few likes on Instagram and to be honest, it can be very deflating, but also, I look back at what I was doing a year ago and I see so much progress, so I tend to also temper my deflation by looking at how much I've evolved. Thank you for this video! I also have to say that I'd be willing to bet the pressure was immense standing on stage about to play along side them.
So spot on. Discipline is the biggest part of it. When i saw that you got up early i started to to it too. Its hard because i have a very physical job and im often exhausted but playing early morning before work means i can train and spend more time with my son after work. Theres enough time in the day you just have to use it

I found myself in jobs like you mentioned, what a hard time! I ended up dropping my dream of becoming a musician for so many reasons (working full time while studying, moving to another cities and countries, financial difficulties and so on). The years passed, and only during the pandemic I decided to look inside myself and understand what was missing. Strangely, buying a used PRS SE made me so happy!
Several times I felt stuck in learning and sought instructions around here. Obviously, I don't expect to become as good a guitar player as you are, but your words motivate me to keep going and not give up music anymore until I know where I can go!

But about the posting on social media, sometimes it just takes time whether you have good content or not, it's just a part of the growth journey. Most of the great people on social media didn't start with as much views, likes or following as they have now but they were consistent with posting and improving on their content and skill.
Just keep pushing and putting yourself out there and one day you'll get the recognition you deserve.

I've had a really tough couple of years myself (nothing to do with Covid) and it has slowed down my projects but I keep going and there are still people who discover my music every day and encourage me! This is all about sharing and it truly feels good! Sure there's luck involved, but you won't get any luck if you don't provoke it!

Man, I love the positivity. I actually dinged my first guitar the other day. It devastated me that I did something dumb that damaged my instrument I love. I let the anger at myself even interfere with my practice as I would get angry every time I looked at the ding on my headstock. But, I have to chalk it up as a lesson learned to be more careful and not to let it rob my of the enjoyment of playing. Danke Bernth, mit Seiler & Speer bin ich wirklich mehr in Musik eingetaucht und hör mittlerweile ein haufen Metal (Nu-Metal am liebsten) und durch Metal wollte ich Gitarre spielen Anfangen.
Ich hab immer nur ein bisschen ab und zu gespielt und vor kurzem fast täglich an 2 Lieder zum nachspielen geübt. Mittlerweile bin ich jetzt auch Patreon und nimm deine Kurse damit ich besser werde und eines Tages vielleicht sogar gute Lieder selber schreiben kann. Ich muss noch am Mindset arbeiten aber ich glaub das wird schon!

Cause&Effect, your driving force of determination renders you the strength to immerse yourself in the moment fluxing essence of humbled calm
to set aside weaknesses of our human emotions to be nsync with the present allowing yourself to be true to your audience. The truth and values you openly express, The furure can cast intimidating auras over a person sometimes.
