Just started again after 8 years and man do I wish I stuck with it. I was doing really well before, sticking with my practice very consistently. Forgot how much fun it is. In a way, it’s kind of nice being able to relearn the guitar, but this time more intelligently. Some of my muscle memory is still present which helps. Don’t do what I did, stick to it. Also, focus more on being able to play correctly and well. Don’t worry about speed, getting your hand used to the proper position to play clear crisp sounds is what’s most important. Really focus on learning chords, the fretboard, and scales. Learning rift is fun, but you will plateau if your main focus is learning songs/rifts. Learning the instrument itself is the most important thing, everything else will come later. Just my 2 cents since now I’m in the same boat as you.

Mate, your progression in your first 3 years had you at a point where you were playing guitar like some people never will, And I've played since I was 4, (40 years)... I could say a million things, but I'll just say....... Playing guitar is a gift, I mean that in the sense that the universe kinda told your subconscious "Here ya go kid, trust me, you're gonna LOVE it." (well that's how it felt for me when I was little) That you have honoured this in how much you give back to the instrument makes me proud to be brethren. I salute you!
You got a Gibson in your second year playing, that is so cool!! I've been playing for two years now but there's always something new to learn!! You are so talented, keep rockin'.
This makes me feel better about my progress from two years of playing. I set aside two hours a day every day and haven’t broke that streak since I started doing it. This just made me feel better because I can play most of the songs from throughout the video. I have also explored writing music and have done it successfully. I have just been looking at people like Tim Henson and getting discouraged. So thank you and I with you luck on the rest of your guitar journey
I have been playing for about a year now, and I can cleanly play some polyphia songs so super proud of myself on that front. Just wanted to share, as nobody around me really cares for guitar
That's because it's been banned in the UK. They passed a law about 7, 8 years ago. If you catch somebody trying to play it in a guitar shop you're legally allowed to cut their guitar strings and they can't do a thing about it.

@@iRusiko Structure your practice time. Even if it's only 10mins in a day. 2 mins scales 2 mins technique,4 minutes on learning a song your working on then the last 2 mins improvise. Something like that and rinse and repeat. One you nailed what your working on move on. Got that C scale down move on to D...Don't know your notes on the fretboard get a diagram with just natural notes on it and study it while your on the bus. I did the same as you though a shoulder injury stopped me from playing for like a year and I didn't get right back to it. I regret that cause i would be 5 years in now instead of 6 months.
These two things make all the difference- structured focused practice at least 5 days a week but only for an hour or 90 minutes. Then let your sleeping brain commit the RAM to your Long term internal storage. You literally learn while you sleep if you keep the information short, specific and manageable. You get much better with LESS time put in a day. Then also play with at least one other person that is better than you 1x a week every other week and 1 person who is less advanced than you 1x a week, so you end up teaching them bits of what you know which makes you grasp it much deeper by explaining it to someone else.
I think your progress is incredible! I'm 54 and a music teacher all my life, albeit with almost no understanding of guitars, but I still think you have achieved so much over a short time! Well done and keep it up - you are an inspiration for so many young wanabe musicians!
ilNegrus Earrape idk what I was thinking when I commented that lol. Whenever someone says ‘pleased to meet you’ I always sing it like the song sympathy for the devil by the rolling stones. Sorry if I confused you

CynicalArt Yeah. We all learn at different rates, maybe some are naturally better at learning some things but don’t let that stop you. Just work at your own pace. It’s what I’m doing.

No way you learned Smoke on the Water's solo within one day of picking up the guitar! I've been playing for 10 years and the solo is still difficult for me to learn. I'm going back and re-learning the songs I told myself I "knew how to play" and actually getting them down perfect with good tone.

Very nice. Love the fact you are learning different styles too. I hadn’t played my guitar in about 6 years, picked it back up recently and I am enjoying playing more than I ever have. This video has inspired me to play and practice as much as possible.
Just had this pop up, and this is very inspiring! I'm going on 13 years playing, and this brings me back to 2011 when I just started year 3 with the progress you've made. You've clearly spent a lot of hours into playing guitar, and have a lot to show for it. Wonderful playing!
I want it, I don’t feel like I can do it (people in my family believe I can’t do it due to the fact that I am a female which is total bs) I grew up loving AC/DC, Black Sabbath and many of the artists she played.
IMO the real progress happens when one stops memorizing other's music and has their own tune in their head that they can just go to... like speaking. I have played since 82.... and still i wait for my Les Paul. That doesn't hurt to have the finest instrument. Nice video, and continued success.
The Dire Straights, Sultans of Swing bought a HUGE smile to my face. I'm ever closer to buying a guitar again. I would love to make half the progress you have made! Well done!
I started actually playing the guitar about 2 months ago, I can know play the intro to la bamba, sunshine of your love, part of enter sandman, motorbreath, learned the pentatonic scale, power chords, chords in general, and I've also learned to headbang while playing the guitar

If you are thinking about getting a guitar, do it. It starts off really slow, the first 3 weeks are the hardest, everything just sounds terrible, but then your brain just figures it out passively and you get better. Do it!
keep it up! Ive been playing for over 10 years and I still dont know the notes on the fretboard. I recommend learning the notes on the fretboard like you know how to breathe. Being forced to learn Jazz in college without a teacher made me realize how important chords and scales\modes are. I ended up creating a new way(incomplete) to master the guitar Yay! lol
I played guitar for a few years back when I was a teen. I let a "friend" borrow my guitar. when I saw him again a week later, it was smashed to bits. I haven't played since. Been over 20 years now. Lately I've been feeling an itch to save up some money to buy a guitar and relearn. After watching this, I REALLY need to get a guitar again!
Love watching a guitarist grow and mature into such an awesome player. Great to see the young ones realize that there is more then one form of music that is out there to play.

I could say a million things, but I'll just say.......
Playing guitar is a gift, I mean that in the sense that the universe kinda told your subconscious "Here ya go kid, trust me, you're gonna LOVE it." (well that's how it felt for me when I was little)
That you have honoured this in how much you give back to the instrument makes me proud to be brethren. I salute you!

That's because it's been banned in the UK. They passed a law about 7, 8 years ago.

I know I am late on the reply here. It was the same for me. The thing that most helped me escape my plateau was to start playing with other people.

I’m learning to play the acoustic guitar and it’s really frustrating because I can never get it right even if I try hard. This inspires me so thanks!!!!!!
