- Gearbox Publishing and developer Hopoo Games have announced Risk of Rain Returns, a remastered and enhanced version of the original Risk of Rain for Switch and PC (Steam). It will launch in 2023.

I wish there were more 3d roguelikes, ror2 was amazing, and I wasn't even into roguelikes.
Very, very likely that there will be a RoR 3 (and then in 3D again). Gearbox Entertainment bought the IP for a reason recently.
@@Furohopoo have stated that after ror returns that they are done with ror. If there is a ror3 it would be very different.

@@cormey8772 hopoo had nothing to do with the console version EVER. The console version of RoR2 was made and released solely by gearbox. The only thing they are fixing is their own bad port lmao.

Yes, this is the most anticipated game of 2023 for me!
Man, I am just as excited as the next person for this game, but why only switch and PC release. I would be fine with the wait for other platforms, but this isn't the first time Hopoo games made us wait for updates to be released on Xbox and PlayStation consoles specifically. With having to wait for the anniversary update for ROR 2 which ended up being a disaster at launch for consoles and now still having to wait for the survivors of the void DLC to this day. This only makes me feel now that the Porters over there have some sort of vendetta against Xbox and PlayStation even though I know that is not the case. Still, it would have been nice to play Risk of Rain Returns at launch. Sorry for this little rant but I really love these games is all.

Maybe they have an easier time with a port to the Switch or the games sells better there, which is a reasonable choice then.
@@Furo Maybe you are right, I was just really hopeful about this game. Like I said I would be a lot more forgiving if this was the first time, we had to wait for updates from the Risk of Rain series. But I guess what still keeps me optimistic is that an overhaul to the Risk of Rain 2 on consoles is underway and maybe they do not want to repeat the same mistakes. Still though if it can release on the switch, it should be able to run just fine on the current-gen consoles anyway, but I'll be patient.
I remember playing it when it first came out, my favorite survivor was the bandit, we didn't have that reload bs the second has, I will buy it ASAP

Of course, RoR: Returns will be very affordable and will cost $15 ($12.75 with a 15% discount the first week of release). Coming out on November 8th, marking the 10th anniversary of the Risk of Rain series. The console version of the SoTV add-on for RoR 2 will be released on the same day

Yeah, I got the news early before the official press release and first wording was 'remaster'. That was changed to remake afterwards, but too late for published content. Next time then ;)

Risk of Rain started on PC & Switch first, it's just what the company (mainly) built their games on. From what I've heard, porting games to consoles isn't easy.
Nintendo Switch has a very large market share, a lot of sales, much more than people usually realize. And RoR: Returns is perfect for a portable console. It would be very difficult for Hopoo Games to release their game on all consoles at the same time, and this is how they prioritized it. RoR: Returns will be released on November 8th, the Tenth Anniversary of the Risk of Rain series. On the same day, RoR 2: Survivors of the Void will be released on console. So console players shouldn't be upset.

@@seanmartin3178 During this time, Gearbox completely redesigned and improved RoR 2 for consoles, so that in the future it would be possible to simultaneously release updates for PC and Consoles. Because of this, we haven't received any news about future updates for RoR 2 for so long. Gearbox will reveal future plans for RoR 2 on November 8th at the Festival of Gup on the official GearboxOfficial Twitch channel

Why would it be anything like Overwatch 2? It’s a remake, not a new game, there’s probably going to be new content but don’t go in expecting it
I'll be honest. I'm very meh on it. I've played it, but didn't enjoy it very much compare to 2.

Most people will like ror2 more, but this also has it's fans. If you prefer 2D games, this one will do the trick
@@Furo Alr, i'll stick to ror2 cuz i already have it and I like 3d better. I do like some 2d games better but 3d is often better. Examples of better 2d games imo is terraria, and I can't remember any more lol
