I feel confident the bird skull you can find on the very top of the Contact Light in RoR1 is the Heretic's head and a reference as to what happened to her.
My favorite part to these ror lore videos is that he gives voices to characters we never see. It also changes my veiw of them (I just came from the overall lore video) like with the Grovetender, the logs are always in caps and the fight always felt more frantic than the others, I thought they were unhinged maniacs but giving them a more level headed and caring voice makes them fit better in the setting of a garden with the wisps as apprentices than unwilling watchers (Little Disciple is a broken wisp that the Grovetender strapped to itself to watch them tend to the garden)
Specifically, when Kur-skan gets that line from Mithrix, it's when Aurelionite shows up alongside her in the final fight, which wouldn't make sense since she was a servant of Mithrix. This explains why he asked "who pulls your strings" to her, since (if we take the theory that Mithrix sent her to the Contact Light) Aurelionite was an enemy of Mithrix.
The messages where he calls out the player having the halcyon seed occurs when he steals it, whereas the messages calling out when the player is the heretic happens at the very start. The "who pulls your strings" message happens after he steals it, too. I feel this makes more sense if you look at both being enemies of mithrix, as he would be using "vermin" as a plural since he is understandably very confused that two familiar figures from his past that he thought had nothing to do with eachother fight him at once.
Aurelionite is sealed by Mhitrix due being "imperfect" and "wrong ratio", made by his brother Providence with too much soul and be able to think and feel, which deem risky for Mhitrix

I like that the skeleton is shaking while holding its head, showing that he’s still plagued with guilt for what he did even after death. He’s just gaslighting himself into believing that all of this had to be done and that he did it for N’Kuhana, even though he knows better.
I think we could get more lore about the High Court if we get a paladin type character in the next DLCs. For those that don't know (or don't remember), a poll was held to vote on which survivor would come in the 1.0 update (which became captain). Afterward, another poll was put up to see what archetype of character was liked the most, and the one that won was the paladin. Even though Hopoo said this "for fun" poll wouldn't have an influence on future character installments, I hope to see them implement a character with some religious background so that it connects to the High Court. A secretive organization that pulls strings from the shadows to further their own goal would make for some excellent lore.
Just found this channel and its so high quality??? I love it! Please keep these up, the lore is so interesting and you have the perfect personality and voice to narrate it all! Def will watch anything like this from here on :)
Just a theory after watching this video. "Her" gift to providence was his extreme power to create. She loved balance, the order of life and death in unity. Providence embodied life, and mythrix brought death. However both took their roles too far, Mythrix obsessed over his creations that caused destruction and his urge to conquer, and providence valued life too much to let it go. Mythrix was right about "her" gift being wasted on providence if this is true. She sacrificed herself to attempt to attain balance across worlds, however two opposite concepts of life and death usually struggle to coincide.
This video is SO GOOD At this moment it have only about 800 views and it was randomly recommended to me, but the quality level is so high and all the effort you put in this, this is just incredible.
The first video was already super good but damn, that recreation scene of the killing of Marion plus all VOs has completely blown me away. Fabulous work!!
Imagine if Hoopoo Games create a Side Risk of Rain game About Kur-skan, where *you're* actually Kur-Skan once you spawn and proceeds the lore events that happened to the Actual Kur-Skan
I think it makes sense that N'kuhana would be the "She" that visited and that Mithrix was jealous of. Mithrix wanted to find other high deities like himself, and would mourn her loss. I'm interested in seeing if the new DLC will introduce more lore and potentially another higher being. The store page got updated, and it says the Void Fiend will be unlocked after defeating a new threat. Sounds to me like a boss, and I think it makes perfect sense if one of these beings were captured by the Reavers and held captive in the void. But now that the void is running rampant and things are escaping?
I can tell you put alot of passion in these lore videos. RoR doesn't have alot of "easy lore" , so I appreciate your efforts to nail down the facts. I hope to see more full videos from you!
Would love to see more of these RoR2 lore videos! Even just going deeper into specific item lore could be interesting, but definitely for the lore ahead in Survivor's of the Void. Thanks for the great work, these videos are fabulous!
This has to be why the puppet item is called "Forgive-me". It's a "Forgive-me for killing you to save the others". The effigy was made as a constant reminder of her sacrifice. Wich is why it triggers every item wich has items on kill. It's just repeating the memory of death over and over.
I would absolutely love some update to these videos. they obviously wouldnt need to be an entire retelling of these lore videos youve done. but since Risk of Rain Returns has some new content. maybe there is some lore worth mentioning? or when Seekers of the Storm comes out. thatd be so cool. I bring this up because some of the new items and enemies in Returns seem to have links to some of the bigger concepts like N'kuhana. but i dont really know how deep that goes. if its too shallow then no need for a video really haha
I want to give you serious props. I bought this game years ago and you've made we want to get back into it. You've captured an energy that is most similar to VatiVidya's Darksouls stories and I've not found that for any other game or at this level anywhere else. I will watch any content you make on risk of rain going forward. Excellent job!
2 years late, but RoR Returns came out and if you die as artificer you get frozen in the crystals, for lore inolications it could be some advanced ENV suit tech keeping her alive, or something saved her, whatever it is its pretty interesting
Man, I'm rewatching these before you (hopefully) continue this series, since the DLC adds SO MUCH to the evergrowing RoR puzzle. I'm specially intrigued by the new "construct" enemies.
if you look at the log entry for the bazaar between time, i think the newt may have been the who mithrix had chosen as the being to craft his lunar items. it mentions the newt making tinctures and the pale arms grasping from below
The glacial elites' item is "Her Biting Embrace," which might also refer to N'kuhana. Cold is often associated with death, and enemies with this aspect have a special effect on death. This could be a stretch though.
I know these videos are pretty old but they helped me understand so much of the lore. I've fallen in love with Risk of Rain 2 (Haven't gotten around to RoR1 or the now RoR Returns) I've only read a handfull of the logs in-game and thought the lore was really intriguing. You really captured the characters and lore and told this story so well. I'm very excited for the Seekers of The Storm DLC! I applaud you for going through all the lore and putting all of this together.
I love this video, it really inspired me to take a closer look at the lore of this game. I'm just hoping to get some proper lore/explanation for the Newt and it's connections with Mithrix in the future. I feel like N'kuhana has potential to be a main antagonist in future games so I wouldn't be to surprised if she doesn't get more spotlight in the logbooks, but the Newt has very high potential to be DLC content. The Newt being an entity that is outside of the reaches of time itself makes it very difficult for any sort of other character to get in contact with it, but Mithrix was very clearly stated to have been able to reach the bazaar. I imagine it's through what he described as "A greater gate to travel greater seas." maybe some sort of teleporter that instead of transporting matter through space, would transport matter through time. It could explain what that big blackhole looking thing is on the moon. But even if that is the explanation for that question, many more arise. Like, if Mithrix was so keen on killing Providence after his betrayal, couldn't he just take a lunar seer portal back to the planet. Why did he opt for throwing down the beads of fealty and other lunar goodies to sway those under Providence's protection. Why did he help to get the alloy vultures (Kur-skan specifically) to board the Contact Light after luring it in if he didn't even need it in the first place, he already had a gateway to outside of time, why would he need a dinky little human cargo ship to take him off the moon? God I love this game's lore.
Just ran through all the logs last night, so this video came to my recommendeds at the perfect time. (only one missing is Mithrix, and I got his by looking it up) It seems the body in the cave isn't the worshipper, but Carney. He claimed to take the body to the altar and hid the altar in exactly the location that unlocks N'kuhana's Opinion. There's a bunch of smaller log sets as well, like the one of naturalist D. Furthen and his friend/guardian Thurson. No real deep lore, but they are pretty funny, as Thurson shrugs off some sort of injury in every log. There's also the set of examinations of the boss items, such as the Shatterspleen, the Molten Perforator, and the Charged Perforator among others. There are other iteration tests like the Hellfire tincture, possibly developed by Kur'Skan. There are a few logs which seem to be from the perspective of the Captain survivor, and not just the Defensive Microbots log or his own bio. There's various confusions and experiments that went on, such as one soldier going crazy after collecting the Happiest Mask, another one who was deemed crazy after allowing the Supermassive Leech to stick to her despite claiming it made her feel even better and with no reported side effects, or a short story of two parents sending gifts to their child named Buu who is researching over at Neptune. There's origin of the Halcyon Seed and the resulting conversation between Mithrix and Providence, its connection to Aurelionite and why he was banished in the first place. There's the Garden, attended by the Grovetender and his wisps, creatures given life by his own hands via some sort of mystic practice. We can find Newt's origin, as far as we can tell, based on the atrophied left hand and his presence marking the sole representation of other "Newts" so far. Siren's Call environment log, while unclear, has possibility to be the bridge of the ship that Kur'Skan died in, as it makes mention of a lone male invader that was likely Providence, as Kur'Skan was unnoticed in her infiltration. The game has some surprisingly good lore for people willing to dig into it, and every once in a while I get the itch to dig deeper. Edit: I got Mithrix log in time for DLC, so now I've got them all!
This is such a high quality video I loved it so much I honestly just stopped myself multiple times to admire the editing! I loved the part where Mythrix measured Kur Skans time and how you voiced "perfect" literally gave me chills!
Hypothesis: If the Contact Light already had a teleporter on it and Mithrix was bound to the moon of P5 because of his brother's use of the lock on the P5Moon of P5 teleporter, it seems likely that he deliberately sent Kur-Skan to the Contact Light in order to take the teleporter from it specifically which he could then use to return to P5 and enact his vengeance. I think your point about the original route deviation of the ship being related to the artificer's organization is logical, and it would tie nicely into Mithrix wanting to take advantage of the ship and its cargo through Kur-Skan rather than him seemingly trying to take the whole ship with the route deviation itself. We know that Mithrix considers items that the player collects (and as such, basically anything humans make) to be 'trinkets' and 'scrap' from his in-game dialogue so it would make much more sense for him to have targeted the teleporter specifically through Kur-Skan's intervention. With that said, I don't know exactly how the blue portal would tie into it. I personally have a theory that the newt acts very much like courier for Mithrix as it both peddles his lunar items and knows how to manipulate the teleporter system to make the player emerge at particular locations. If we assume that this is true then it's possible that Mithrix used the newt's portals to put Kur-Skan on the ship in order to then get a functional teleporter back to the moon, but then it does raise the question of why Mithrix would even need a teleporter to get back to P5 in the first place. It's certainly not a flawless theory, but I'm curious as to your thoughts.
I didn't realize this was a new channel when i watch the first vid. gotta say love the work. there is a lot of un-explained lore that is hard to piece together even after reading all the log entries
Followup video let's gooooo I commented this in the previous video, but I think UA-cam Shorts for some of the smaller pieces of lore would be cool too. I'm personally a fan of the Parent/Grandparent/Child/Planula life cycle, but I don't think that gives enough material for a full-fledged video, unless you do an enemies' or bosses' compilation (?) Edit: I believe the skeleton you find in the Wetland Aspect is Carney's, not the follower's, as they say they hid his body in the Altar, which is that cave, and he was _big_ -- on the other hand, the pose (comically distraught face, eternally trembling in a fetal position) would also make sense for it to be the remnants of a haunted follower of N'kuhana
I just saw your full explanation of the story of RoR and RoR 2, and I really like your formatting! especially with the voice acting on the EV logs, it's very well put together, and you do a great job of capturing Mithrix's personality in your reading of him. I look forward to seeing new content from you in the future, and am crossing my fingers for a lore update on the Survivor's of the Void expansion
Loved the video, I liked the performance reading the logbook entries, also love how you went through the effort to include captions into UA-cam. Though I am wondering, how'd you get those free cam shots whilst keeping the game running? All I can think of is the PhotoMode mod but that freezes the game. Again, great video, will stick around for more of these
The effort in this video is amazing and I've always wanted to know more about the risk of Rain lore, because I know there is a lot more than meets the eye with this game. I love it
I think that for the "who pulls your strings quote" might not be directed at the survivor puppeteering her body somehow but more questioning to what organization or what means they are assaulting mythrix, I think that in becoming the heretic the character becomes one with the intentions and mind of the heretic as it says as two stories become one, and referring to the character as they after they finish the final boss.
15:26 I think it makes more sense if she had been defeated, because in the risk of rain returns when we die with the artificer, she is around a crystal or whatever, then she could have been shot down or defeated by something and before being killed maybe Did Newt save her? (but not for a good reason as we can see, he literally sells her)
I think when she "dies" she uses her powers to encase herself in frost, to prevent her from really dying, maybe she heals herself slowly while in the crystal? The newt may not be aware she's still alive and just be selling her as a fossil: "Cool crystal with a dude inside, 50 doller".
Finally someone else as invested in the lore as I am so glad you connected everything I was having trouble understanding cant wait to see what you find in the dlc!
I have a possible theory: where you talk about the artificer being aboard the UES Safe Travels because of the drop pod, wasnt Rex already on the planet but still uses a drop pod. I know he was abourd a UES vessel beforehand but I assumed it was the one destroyed by Mithrix. So maybe the artificer was sent there earlier as it is confirmed that her suit is used for space travel.
I would like to add something to this theory two years later Nkuhana has an opinion About what i didnt care enough to look into but its definitely there
While I haven't paid much attention to ROR2's Lore, I gotta say that this has perked up my interest in it. Great video content-wise and edit-wise! I also didn't expect to start hearing one of my favorite video-game soundtracks during it, so good taste!

They still managed to make a bandit that is different from the bandit mod so I think they can make a paladin
Just found this channel and its so high quality??? I love it! Please keep these up, the lore is so interesting and you have the perfect personality and voice to narrate it all! Def will watch anything like this from here on :)
Oh my god the amount of heart and effort put into these vids! You even did captions too! Thank you so much for making these. I can't wait to see more
Just a theory after watching this video.
This is incredibly interesting, it takes an amazing amount of knowledge and understanding to come up with theories based on so little information.
This video is SO GOOD
At this moment it have only about 800 views and it was randomly recommended to me, but the quality level is so high and all the effort you put in this, this is just incredible.
My god you were spot on
Honestly that’s what I thought when I found her items and saw how thay referred to her
I'm so glad you made this video. All of these characters are so interesting!
I can tell you put alot of passion in these lore videos. RoR doesn't have alot of "easy lore" , so I appreciate your efforts to nail down the facts. I hope to see more full videos from you!
Your channel is definitely going to be a top lore channel for ROR and which ever games lore you choose to create content for.
I heard the bloodborne music during N’kuhana’s segment. Very Nice
Would love to see more of these RoR2 lore videos! Even just going deeper into specific item lore could be interesting, but definitely for the lore ahead in Survivor's of the Void. Thanks for the great work, these videos are fabulous!
1 Wait for rude customer to appear
2 Suspend them in time
3 Sell that customer for more profit
Thats some chad move from newt
I loved the effort you put into showing the N'kuhana worshipper, the supposed sacrifice of Morion and so on. Keep going!
This has to be why the puppet item is called "Forgive-me".
It's a "Forgive-me for killing you to save the others".
The effigy was made as a constant reminder of her sacrifice.
Wich is why it triggers every item wich has items on kill. It's just repeating the memory of death over and over.
I really would love a High Court themed DLC - sounds really interesting!
Yea that would be pretty cool
I thought this was a big channel from the effort put into the video quality
Amazing work mate keep it up
I would absolutely love some update to these videos. they obviously wouldnt need to be an entire retelling of these lore videos youve done.
but since Risk of Rain Returns has some new content. maybe there is some lore worth mentioning? or when Seekers of the Storm comes out. thatd be so cool.
These two videos are awesome!
Thank you for taking the time to piece these together and put out such polished vids
So...Survivors of the Void DLC came out. More juicy lore to dive into. If you have the time. Amazing video.
If hear hollow knight music opening the video to explain anything for any game. I must watch the rest knowing that I am watching a great video
bro please make more of these im starving for ro2 lore detailed in your style
2 years late, but RoR Returns came out and if you die as artificer you get frozen in the crystals, for lore inolications it could be some advanced ENV suit tech keeping her alive, or something saved her, whatever it is its pretty interesting
Man, I'm rewatching these before you (hopefully) continue this series, since the DLC adds SO MUCH to the evergrowing RoR puzzle. I'm specially intrigued by the new "construct" enemies.
Once again, another great video. I love all of the details you use to help visualize the stories.
if you look at the log entry for the bazaar between time, i think the newt may have been the who mithrix had chosen as the being to craft his lunar items. it mentions the newt making tinctures and the pale arms grasping from below
The glacial elites' item is "Her Biting Embrace," which might also refer to N'kuhana. Cold is often associated with death, and enemies with this aspect have a special effect on death. This could be a stretch though.
Its always nice to see these videos start getting more attention, keep it up!
Man I am so glad I found your channel!
Been a fan of RoR since game 1 and it's lore was so convoluted I couldn't keep track.
Thank you!
its incredible how high quality these videos are for a channel with only 2 total
Awesome video! Watching this and your previous video is almost like seeing VaatiVidya on Petrichor V
Thanks! I am honored to be called that ^_^
I know these videos are pretty old but they helped me understand so much of the lore. I applaud you for going through all the lore and putting all of this together.
i just found this channel and your videos are seriously some of the best content ive ever watched, thank you
I love this video, it really inspired me to take a closer look at the lore of this game.
God I love this game's lore.
the way you cover the lore is extremely captivating, thanks for the explanation!
just watched both your vids and was sad to find no more, love the content!
I’m watching this in 2022 and this really has me about to cry, feel scared and be absolutely mortified. Your voice is amazing
Just ran through all the logs last night, so this video came to my recommendeds at the perfect time. (only one missing is Mithrix, and I got his by looking it up)
It seems the body in the cave isn't the worshipper, but Carney.
These videos are so well done and entertaining! Thanks for this!
I can't believe you've only got two videos up!! You've got the polish of someone who's been doing this for much longer. Loved the vids.
Your videos are very cool and comfy. Great work :)
With the hollow knight music in the background it sets the mood so well
This is such a high quality video I loved it so much I honestly just stopped myself multiple times to admire the editing! I loved the part where Mythrix measured Kur Skans time and how you voiced "perfect" literally gave me chills!
I would love to see you do more lore videos, whether it's risk of rain or something else!
I loved this video and can't wait for more. There is clearly a lot of heart and love in this video, and I can't wait for the next one.
you're definitely going to be popular if you continue to do high quality videos like that
keep up the good work ☝
I’m excited to see what you do next man, keep it up
Petrichor being the word for the smell of rain is such a fun and thoughtful detail!
This was good! I'm subbing, just Imagine what we can see in the DLC.
Thanks, man! Really enjoyed it!
Once again amazing job with those voice lines! It really adds character and substance to the lore
Thanks for explaining this twisted and interesting plot!
I appreciate the game even more after seeing your lore videos! Thanks for the great work!
Followup video let's gooooo
I commented this in the previous video, but I think UA-cam Shorts for some of the smaller pieces of lore would be cool too. I'm personally a fan of the Parent/Grandparent/Child/Planula life cycle, but I don't think that gives enough material for a full-fledged video, unless you do an enemies' or bosses' compilation (?)
Edit: I believe the skeleton you find in the Wetland Aspect is Carney's, not the follower's, as they say they hid his body in the Altar, which is that cave, and he was _big_ -- on the other hand, the pose (comically distraught face, eternally trembling in a fetal position) would also make sense for it to be the remnants of a haunted follower of N'kuhana
Amazing video my dude, Incredibly well done! :D
The music from hollow knight you use is giving me nostalgia
How i killed the radiance
Thanks for both videos, dude. Warmly waiting for the new one about the DLC.
I'm loving the lore. I wish there was more. I don't think there is tho. Great videos mate. You off to a great start.
Loved the video, I liked the performance reading the logbook entries, also love how you went through the effort to include captions into UA-cam. Though I am wondering, how'd you get those free cam shots whilst keeping the game running? All I can think of is the PhotoMode mod but that freezes the game.
Again, great video, will stick around for more of these
It is the photomode mod! But I'm also using DebugToolKit and using the time scale 1 command
This man only makes slappers but releases like 2 per year. Joking but kind of not, hoping for more vids soon
The effort in this video is amazing and I've always wanted to know more about the risk of Rain lore, because I know there is a lot more than meets the eye with this game. I love it
I think that for the "who pulls your strings quote" might not be directed at the survivor puppeteering her body somehow but more questioning to what organization or what means they are assaulting mythrix, I think that in becoming the heretic the character becomes one with the intentions and mind of the heretic as it says as two stories become one, and referring to the character as they after they finish the final boss.
otta love the bloodborne music in the background. Truly a testiment to the greatness of the soundtrack
@@hikarikouno make sense lol...
Finally someone else as invested in the lore as I am so glad you connected everything I was having trouble understanding cant wait to see what you find in the dlc!
Love your RoR videos, man. I hope you'll upload more. You're the only one doing these kinds of videos in the RoR community AFAIK.
Yessss lore video of Risk of Rain 2!
Thanks for the subtitle man
It's always heartbreaking when you find a new banger of a channel and they have so few videos 😭 subscribing and anxious to see what else you put out.
Cannot wait until your video containing the DLC is completed!
We greatly anticipate your voyage into the void, and your meeting with it's guardian.
I would like to add something to this theory two years later
Nkuhana has an opinion
About what i didnt care enough to look into but its definitely there
While I haven't paid much attention to ROR2's Lore, I gotta say that this has perked up my interest in it. Great video content-wise and edit-wise! I also didn't expect to start hearing one of my favorite video-game soundtracks during it, so good taste!
Nice Hollow Knight Background music
