In every one of these videos, everyone is able to unscrew the bolts from under the faucet so easily. And never once. Has it been easy for me. As a matter of fact, it's been the most challenging part of the entire project... Every single freaking time. What is the secret??

You’re not alone! We may skip over all the grunting in these videos, but it happens.

Now try it in a 25 year old sink with rusty bolt and broken plastic

As a handyman I do these a lot. In my experience I encounter the following:
    1. If you're going to pull the sink off the wall then don't go through the trouble of removing all the faucet hardware while it's still hard to access behind the sink. Pull it out, remove all hardware, install all new hardware, then reinstall the pedestal sink. Even reconnect the supply lines under the sink before you reinstall the sink. Supply lines are never loose enough to undo by hand. They require a wrench and are a nightmare to undo because there is no room for a wrench unless the sink is away from the wall.
    2. The new style of tailpipe that allegedly creates a compression seal under the sink fails to seal nearly 50% of the time. It is an ineffective design and requires Teflon tape wrapped around the threads to help seal.
    3. There are tubular wrenches for removing those plastic wingnuts

My dad was a jack of all trades. He passed away too soon. He taught me a lot and would have absolutely loved UA-cam “how to” videos.
You know you’re a badass when you do a “how to” video while recording it with one hand and narrating and doing it with your other hand.
I just removed my pedestal sink drain with the help of this video.
    God bless you.
    I miss you dad.

Thanks for the training. Very helpful. I have a question for you: Is it necessary to move the drain? I am going to be replacing the faucet unit only. I can't imagine I also need to remove the sink drain, which is doing just "fine." Please set me straight if I am wrong. I'll be most thankful for your response.

Hi! Not sure your specific set up, but my drain and faucet are separate; see video again if needed. Drain or drain pipe removal/modification is necessary if (a) you want to replace or match a new one with the new faucet or (b) you can’t access the faucet easily and need to pull your sink out from the wall. If you can reach your hand under the sink and unscrew the wingnuts holding the faucet in place and you can access the waterlines, and I don’t see a any reason to remove the drain.

@@ThisBetterHome Thank you for your response. I just finished the job without touching the sink drain, besides the drain valve pushrod (to open/close drain). Went superwell, thanks to the clarity of your video. Best wishes. (No need to respond.)

Why don't you update to single handle faucet?

I am the victim of a cheap sub-contractor who ought to be in the lowest circle of Hell. He did not use lag screws, nor a bracket to moint the sink ... this SOB GLUED the sink to the painted, textured sheet rock!!! He just buttered the back surface of the sink with some adhesive and shoved the sink/pedestal combo against the wall until the adhesive cured. I am using a hacksaw blade to, not so much cut, but WEAR through the adhesive.
