I am needing to change the faucet only on my pedestal sink, and was looking for the right tool to get to the upper connector on the supply lines. Richard says it at 0:47 - Basin Wrench!!! Thank You!!
Well, shoot. I had hoped changing out the faucet on a pedestal sink would be easy. I think I'd better call the plumber instead of trying it myself...... Great video with a lot of good and useful information and I really like that fancy stopper.
I'd like to share this: It is common knowledge we have P Trap on our sink and shower floor drain - to prevent sewer gas from backing up. But did you know that the P-Trap itself, after some time would collect gunk from all the soap, dirt and grim along it's inner surface and it stinks? There are numerous remedies to this such as Vinegar + Baking Soda etc... But nothing beats using a high pressure washer.
I like that pop-up/pop-down sink drain. No more fussy assemblies. Best part of that whole video. Are these drain assemblies available in the big box stores? Or only in the professional plumbing supply houses? Richard, thank you. You’re a pro and are appreciated!
O boy... people responses are killing me. You house has full city pressure in it people. usually around 80-90 psi depending on alot of stuff. Its not dangerous unless you drown....lol
I bought a Price Fpister faucet and the stopper is great because all you have to do is screw it on from the top and to clean it just unscrew it. Costs like $50.
Should always take out the aerator before turning the water on to prevent any debris that has been introduced into the lines. This happens when you shut the feed valves off and back on, (especially on multiple turn valves)
Hey, I was told yesterday and today by 2 different plumbers that my stopper with the new faucet set could not be used because the stopper hole was too small. Also, one of the nuts rusted underneath one of the knobs and they said they had to cut the old faucet set out. Also, the actual water faucet they installed is not stable. I am able to move it side to side. Also, now the pedastool sink teeters where it was secure before. Again, they say wait for the caulk to dry. Is this normal or should I complain again? My pedastool sink was installed about 6 years ago.
Is it always necessary to remove pedestal sink if your replacing sink drain with push button bathroom sink drain?? Tried doing it myself. Got sink drain wrench, but couldn't remove the sink locknut washer & drain washer! Now what???CH
nice video, I'm looking to replace our kitchen faucet for an old porcelain sink. Our tools are too large because the space where the facet bolts sits under the porcelain is so small. barely an inch. I'd hate to take out the whole sink(not in our budget) any tips on tools would be really helpful. :D
With enough finesse and patience you can replace all these parts without detaching the sink from the wall or removing the pedestal. It takes 3 times as long and requires 10 times the patience to get your wrenches under the drain, but it’s doable. That way you don’t need to remove, recaulk, or repaint. Easier and quicker for professionals to remove when time is money.
As you said, Richard, the sink didn't have to come off the wall. The caulk didn't need to be cut to lift the sink off the base either, it would have flexed enough after bolts in wall were loosened.
So they can make a video to show other people how to do things on their own. Why do you close the door? What are you doing in there you don't want anybody to see?😂😂😂
I wish Richard was my best bud and he would come over to my house and do weekend projects. I would make coffee.
Another good vid by Richard. Has such a likable disposition

Yes,he is really COOL DUDE 😎
Met him at a home show a few years ago. He's a super nice guy.
Yeah this guy has some aura, his videos feel so neat and nice explained.
That was a good one. A tip from me: always keep the plug hole blocked / covered when working in a sink or bath to prevent items falling down there.
Good stopper design, eliminates the linkage and the adjustment. I like the clean look of the faucets.
That's been around for years even prior the linkage it fell out of favor because most people don't want to stick their hands in "dirty water"

Thanks Richard, I will be tackling this same job tomorrow.

Agree 👍
They're very common now. They're referred to as a "push pop up drain" if you look for them online.
nauthizzz good to know thanks!
They’re becoming pretty standard
This was very helpful and wouldn’t you know it, the faucet you replaced is exactly the same model I replaced. Must have been popular 15 years ago.
This took way longer than 10 minutes tho lol But so glad for your tutorial on this!
Question for Richard. How does he deal with full city water pressure and how dangerous is it ?
Very dangerous. Can take a man's head clean off. lol
Lmao is this a real question?
Pressure regulator?
Why would he deal with city pressure that's the city's job. But I have seen it go as high as a telephone pole at least 30 feet high.
O boy... people responses are killing me. You house has full city pressure in it people. usually around 80-90 psi depending on alot of stuff. Its not dangerous unless you drown....lol
I've had problems with those pop up stoppers before ,maybe they're better engineered these days.Richard is the best and makes plumbing fun !

Thitooey's favorite saying, "GOOD"...
Huge improvement Richard. 👍😁
Always great instructions and video!! Thank you!!
Am I the only one who thinks the quick connect water hoses were sexy? He makes plumbing look fun - even pedestal sinks!
Great video. Wish I could get Richard to come to my house. My plumber refused to work on mine, and I'm too old and weak to do it myself.

He is not kidding about plumbers not liking a pedestal sink
Alexander Zerka money
Oh that was simple. What about those where the pedestal that is enclosed with pipe running down center and through a hole?
Richard "Full City Water Pressure" Trethewey
Leave it to Rich to find the gross brown stuff and touch it with his finger lol
For those 3/8" stops under the sinks...
I found out a 16mm wrench works perfectly.
16mm.
We have 4 pedestal type sinks and I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT!
@ X Y Z, go with vanity cabinets sir.
Yep you'll have storage space then
Same here
We have 1 and it's a pain! Our br is small, so anything else wouldn't work
kituwahband off the wall basin......and they are cheap........
So when your sink is filled with dirty water you have to reach your hand in that water and press down on the stopper?
just wash your hands? you're literally right there lol
@@trashcan1112 Seriously...
Thanks . I am a single mom ,my sink is leaking as it is broken. I have to move the sink from the wall and change the damage patrs by myself .

Great job 👍
Surprised did not bolt on sink to wall before they replaced pedestal? Looked like two bolts were for alignment not supporting and bolting to wall?
Thank you
destroyed wallpaper is seen behind the new one though?
Like the guitar music!
*So far very pleased*
Is it OK for the braided supply lines to bend in a circle like that? @8:32
yes but be careful they can kink also
good job! I don't like the stopper style though. I'm imagining a mess that I'd rather not have to stick my hands in. hmmm

use a basin wrench to get in those tight spots
This just convinced me not to put a pedestal sink in the WC in my next house.
Pedestal sinks look great in the trash.
They make a plumbers claw U can get at hardware store. Plastic, will pull a Ring right out along with slyme!
Anyone know the name of the guitar tune?
Some smooth editing in post at 5:29 to keep from youtube de-monetizing lol
What do you mean?
Single hole sinks and faucets are easier.
So cool
Hate those sinks. Zero access to the trap.
Richard where are u based?
Carry Boston, his company is called Tbros we see his trucks everywhere
Why not replace the trap too while you have it apart before it goes bad?
Pro-press has gone wild, because I don’t think it’s a secure connection between the pipe and fitting.
What would cause my sink faucet to have very low pressure ?
aerator could be plugged. plugged supply lines or stops. kinked lines to faucet.
LJU
Re pipe (copper) maybe?
Plumber dude is a kung fu practitioner.
@Kenny Roberts, Lol 😂

Where is the p trap?
Nice video, but I hate how most of the plumbing components are plastic now.
At least take some of the old wallpaper off with that putty knife. Lol
Wasn’t in the bid…
As you said, Richard, the sink didn't have to come off the wall. The caulk didn't need to be cut to lift the sink off the base either, it would have flexed enough after bolts in wall were loosened.
it makes replacing the components much easier
That new push plug is bad.👎 Friend has one push thing got stuck in and couldn't push out.😩
Go old school get old style basin with a seperate plug👍
Now I see why the plumbers never called him back
Wow, Silk Studios bras are a UA-cam ad for This Old House. Weird.
Matt B the ads are based on your internet habits and not what you’re watching at the moment.
Hey
No way am I having a stopper that I have to reach down in the water to release!
Just bust out the ol big toe. That's what I do.
Username checks out
Nick Park lol 😂
Pencil, stick, fork, piece of wood, bottle of shampoo.... better than having a flimsy linkage lol
lol I was thinking the same. I know a lot of people who would definitely not want to stick their hand down the middle of a full sink to drain it.
Changethetrap
Changethetrap
Why does the 'homeowner' (actor) gotta be involved?? I always close the door when I'm working.
So they can make a video to show other people how to do things on their own.
Why do you close the door? What are you doing in there you don't want anybody to see?😂😂😂
A plumbers nightmare
I would rather run 100 ft of 4 inch cast iron than hang a pedestal sink.
Missed a step.
Run the faucet with the aerator removed to clear the lines.
"Homeowner gets the honors" - bad practice, good TV?
too many shortcuts.
called a plumber to install a faucet, what a beta
You’re not going to change the trap? Come on, Richard.
If it aint broke dont fix it.
The sound of the plug unit is terrible
He'd be better off using some metal rod instead rather than using his hand to push down every time that stopper in the dirty water.
How useless is this homeowner?
