Hello, first of all thank you for this fantastic video, it helps a lot in differentiating the types of brakes. Question, I have a 120i F20 year 2017 with normal brakes, and I bought the brembo M brakes of a 140i, 340mm / 345mm, everything was installed correctly, the only detail is that the handbrake does not work, due to the dimension of the center of the disk. My question is that it is very likely that I will have to replace the stump of my vehicle with another model, will the stump of a 335i F30 work? I have a friend who offers me these answers, I look forward to an answer, thank you very much!
Hello, There are two different types of rear 345mm discs, small handle version and large handbrake version. You just need the small handbrake version discs for your car. Part numbers: Rear 345mm smooth (160) 34206797605 Rear 345mm grooved (160) 34206797598 It sounds like your brakes are from 3/4 series, not m140i. Message me directly if you need any more help. Terrific video and so informative! I was wondering if you had any advice for fitting the callipers to a 330i E46 Touring? I'm assuming the smaller of the front callipers?
Great video and some good info, are these a bolt on upgrade for the 318i and 320i or are other parts needed like hubs or master cylinder? Thanks! How do you know which size are required to upgrade?
That’s a good video 👌👌 thank you! Looking to upgrade my bmw e92 320 with the 340mm callipers . Question is. Backing plate will fit?? Or I need to trim it? Or buy a 330 one? Thanks 🙏
Awesome video. Question: I have a 2018 M2 and I'm currently buying maintenance parts to have when the time comes to replacing them. Rock Auto has the single piece rotors for pretty cheap. You suggest staying away from these? FCP Euro has a full set of rotors and pads(OEM 2 piece equivalent) for $1700 while the rockauto set (1 piece rotor) is around $400. This is a daily and I do not track my car.
One pice rotors are heavier so you will increase unsprung weight, secondly they are not floating unlike 2 piece M rotors so there is a risk of distortion under extreme heat. But for daily use I’d give it a shot, just make sure they have warranty. Most importantly, get genuine m pads, they make all the difference 👍🏻

Great video, thanks. Can i use F30 m performance brake system - 345 rear and 370 front rotors on e92 m3 without any modifications, or do i need the F8X M 370 rear and 380 front rotors ? Thank you
There is another video on my Chanel about e92 m3. You can use f rear calipers (44mm type) with F8x rear discs (370mm) and it’s pretty much a direct bolt on, you’ll just need to trim the back plates and few m12 washers to centre the calipers across the discs. On the front you need to change the spindles to F8x in order to use F8x brakes, alternatively you can use g calipers that are an easy bolt in solution. Thanks
What do you mean by 'correct' piston size in the rear? Is there a difference in compatibility between the 40mm and 44mm piston calipers with 345mm discs? Also, do they have different pads in the rear or the same? Cheers

I got a question, I have a f30 328i base and looking to upgrade my brakes but most likely I’m only looking to upgrade the front with M Sport brakes that comes on 335i, 340i, 345i the 4pistons 340mm will they fit with my same stock base rotors or I’ll have to get the different set of rotors that comes with the calipers? Hi, I’ve just bought 2017 F36 callipers from my 2020 F36. I’ve got the 340mm fronts and the P244 rears. What brake discs do you recommend and where can I get them from. Happy to send you the codes of the callipers if needed. Also with these replace the standard OEM brakes without too much mechanical work?

@@vysgarage With the 340 mm type calipers you can use the 348 mm E92 335i rotors, have that set up on my E92 335i. Rear is another story, I use e60 345 mm rotors due to the more suitable offset unless you make a custom bracket.
I have a 340i with the blue brembo’s (370mm fronts) I want to change my rear brake setup to the smaller f3x brakes (328i) so I can run a 17” wheel for the drag strip. If I buy the rear rotor & caliper from an f3x 328i will that be a direct fit onto my car?
I'm hoping to install m4 calipers and rotors on my e82 135i (n55). I'm assuming I need caliper adapters unless I swap the hubs, is my thinking correct? Great video btw, glad you covered the small differences. best, Graham
@@vysgarage thank you for the quick reply! Im hoping to use “seemslegitgarage” adapters, unless you’d recommend something else. They should be selling the rear caliper adapters for non m hubs soon. Just a side note, I have a full set of fairly new e92 m3 rotors, is there a way to use these instead, making the install cheaper for me?
Why don’t you just use 370mm and 345mm rotors? The rotor thickness is the same, pad contact is the same, they are still two piece, they are much cheaper, they don’t need adapters and they fit a lot better. To run m rotors on the rear, you will need to remove significant amount of material from the rear calipers which I don’t recommend.
@@vysgarage id like to avoid permanent modification if possible, thank you for the suggestion. Excuse my ignorance but I’m assuming the 135i rear rotor has the smaller hand brake, so will the 345mm rear rotor make the install easier for that reason as well? I will likely use your recommendation of 370mm front & 345 rear with additional brake ducting. Would you recommend f series brake backing plates or a brake duct hose dumping air on the back of the front rotors? Looks like I’ll be saving a couple hundred bucks, thanks to you!
135i will have the large handbrake so the install is easy, you just need a set or rear Caliper bushings/adapters which I have available. If you’re taking the car on track and need to improve cooling, ducting is the only way to get a real benefit. But I must say that significant amount of braking performance comes from good pads such as rs29.
Great video. I am upgrading my 330e to an m-sport. Does it matter at the rear if I go for the 40mm piston calipers or the 44mm piston calipers? Besides the difference of piston diameter are there any other differences like less braking power or less pressure on the brake pedal?? Or it doesn't matter if i mount the 40 or 44 mm piston calipers? As long as I use the same size left and right....
Well, I have 370mm in the front and (still) just stock E90 brakes on the rear. High speed emergency brakes were fine, but when cornering it might be potentially problematic:)

Hello, I have the unpainted greys upfront on my 435i. Would I have any issues upgrading the rears only? 340mm’s up front 345mm’s in the rear. I have an M sport, would there be any coding needed for the larger rear rotors?
This is really an aesthetic upgrade more than a performance one. These will look so much better than the stock rear calipers. Thanks!
Hi,
It’s not necessary to code the car.
Thanks
Hello, I’m back again! I was wondering if you could help me. I have a 2014 435i M Sport, unpainted Brembo’s up front and (ugly) Bosch brakes in the back. I would like to get the 2 piston Brembo’s for my rears, 345mm and I see quite a few on eBay but most of the time they don’t have detailed descriptions so I have no idea if they’re compatible. Can you tell me what I should look for so I can put together a list to complete this conversion, please? Or even better, if you have a website and you sell them I can purchase from you? I’m just nervous about spending hundreds on parts and it being completely wrong. Thanks so much!
Hi
Please pm me on facebook.
Thanks
great video, very helpful!! one question regarding the rear calipers, how to know which size of piston is the correct one (40/44mm)? For instance I have a F36 428i Xdrive (with 300rear 330front) can I use any of them? thaank you in advance!
Hi
40mm piston rear calipers are only used on early production f20, then they switched to 44mm.
You should use 44mm on your car.
👍🏻
@@vysgarage thank you very much, I am from Germany, I will contact you in Facebook to see what you have available in 370/345mm thanks!
I have them :)
@@vysgarage hello, so I have my front brembo set up already and have the rear 44mm brembo caliper itself, what rotor size would I need ? I have a 2019 F36 440i gran coupe
@@victorsegovia5131 hi
You need 345mm discs:
Rear 345mm (185mm handbrake) smooth 34206797607
Rear 345mm (185mm handbrake) grooved 34206797600
I got question for you. It's possible to instal M rear disc if i use calliper adapter? Are the same mouting of a disc and size of handbrake? (you said 185mm)
There are companies that make adapters to install m discs but you will need to machine the Calipers
Heello thanks for thé vidéo
I have a question for you I have an X3 f25 I want to upgrade my brake what is my best option to have a bigger brake kit thanks .
Hi
I have not tried anything with f25 so can t comment at the moment.
Sorry
Can’t thank you enough for this information in this video.
Question: i have a 2016 340 with the front 340mm gray brembos and floating calipers in the rear. If i wanted to upgrade to the 370 and 380mm would any modification be necessary? Also, if i wanted to upgrade to the F80 M3 bbk, what modifications would be necessary?
Thanks for your help.

Hi mate I have a 435i with only 1 piston at the back what one is the one I need for the rear upgrade p2 40 or p2 44 ?
Hi
You need 44mm version
I have them in stock, pm me if you want 👍🏻
Amazing video. Any info for a e60 550i
Thanks
Yes, I made an e60 video also.
Have a look on the channel.
Pm on Facebook if have any questions.
So using the the m sport 370 calliper with the m sport pads, they will would just fine on the 380mm disc on a m cad ?
Yes
good video very informative. Can I ask a stupid question I saw 5m series here in the US where I live I almost positive that his Rotor and disk are the same size front and rear and their big is that possible? Thank you
Hi,
Sorry, do you mean m5?
Is so, what year was it?
@@vysgarage oh I'm not sure I mean M series bmw its four door sedan its gotta be late 2000 models thank you
Great video mate can you tell me do the backing plates stay the same I'm going from 340mm to 370mm fronts and 330mm to 345mm on the rears
Thank you,
Yes, they can stay the same 👍🏻👍🏻

Hi, do u need the brake dust shield to install these brake kit on f20 118i?
It’s not necessary
Hi. i got a set of f80 m3 brakes. 380 front and 370 rear i wanna retrofit f31 320d 2016 can u tell me what conversion kit i can use ? :)
Hi
I don’t have such kits. Sorry
I'm retro fitting 340mm with 4 piston brembos onto a 07 e92. It already has braided hoses that do not have a swivel union. Is the swivel union necessary?
Hi
It’s not necessary, but it makes the job easier if you have a seized male Union on the car.
@VYS Garage The braided hoses are fairly new so I don't think it should be an issue. Thank you for the quick reply. Awesome video.
Hello
I’m not sure those fit without modifications of the f10 ... (front and rear)
These will not fit f10.
You need g chassis calipers, see my other video.
Hi,
I’ve just bought 2017 F36 callipers from my 2020 F36. I’ve got the 340mm fronts and the P244 rears. What brake discs do you recommend and where can I get them from. Happy to send you the codes of the callipers if needed.
Also with these replace the standard OEM brakes without too much mechanical work?
Hi
Message me on facebook 👍🏻
Do you have the torque specs for the caliper bolts? Seem to vary wildly on all the forums from 'that's falling off' to 'that's the bolt snapped'.
So basically: can you use 380 original M4 discs: if you are using M4 calipers long eared? on a f30Msport
Tanks for the info
No you can’t.
380 m4 disc is only compatible for f8x M cars.
@@vysgarage Thanks: In essence, I'm running the 370: However, brake heat during endurance driving is awful, becoming almost impossible to drive after 20m: I thus want to know how to switch to the M4 setup: as a friend's M4 never has the same problems: I should add that my vehicle is a Stag 5.
@@uklmngubane5661 if you have good pads, braided hoses and fluid, you shouldn’t have this issue.
What pads are you using ?
@@vysgarage I'm not utilizing braided lines or racing fluid: I'm using Febi bilsten pads with slotted discs. So if I take care of it, all of my issues will be handled. Which brake pads would you advise for such driving: are those mentioned above okay?
No, all those pads are for road use.
For track pads I can recommend pagid rsl29, endless, Feeodo ds uno or ds3000.
Fluid: ate type 200 or motul 660
Hoses: he’ll performance
This is the first I've heard of the "montego blue" color! Any idea where you heard that from? Thanks for vid
It’s one of colour options on E9x

@@vysgarage right but these are F Chassis calipers? What is the significance of E9X colors?
@@ryanl2016 I have no idea 😂
It’s just a colour bmw use on the Calipers, some say it’s estoril blue and some say it’s montego….
@@vysgarage haha! Well to make matters more confusing, I Heard the color was possibly "monte carlo blue" (which is another F chassis BMW color). Who knows!
He says F series...So F10 they will fit also?
No, 1-4 series
Hi love the Info man! so I have a e92 non m what is the best option in your opinion to go with.
Hi, Thanks!
I think 340mm option is the most cost effective and rotors are easier to come by. Also more wheel size options with 340mm 👍🏻
Yes, they will fit straight on.
They should be 320mm...
You mentioned about the rears, but if jumping from say 330mm fronts to 370mm, will the shields need changed/ trimmed up front? 🤔
You can’t just jump from 330 to 370, you can to 345 though, then shields don’t need changing
@vysgarage901 330mm fronts on a 428i at the minute, going to 370 calipers and rotors up front I mean mate.
Thought you meant the rear, sorry.
On the front the dust shields are straight edged, so you don’t need to change them, but you can if you want to.
I'm hoping to install m4 calipers and rotors on my e82 135i (n55). I'm assuming I need caliper adapters unless I swap the hubs, is my thinking correct? Great video btw, glad you covered the small differences.
best,
Graham
Hi,
Yes, to run m discs on e82 you will need adapters. Calipers will also sit further outboard which increases your chances of needing wheel spacers.
On 330e you should really use 44mm version
@@vysgarage oke can you explain me why?
To have correct brake bias. 40mm is only used on some 1 series models.
Well, I have 370mm in the front and (still) just stock E90 brakes on the rear. High speed emergency brakes were fine, but when cornering it might be potentially problematic:)
If I wanted to do the 340mm conversion on my e90 335i will the f series rotors bolt right on or do I need different rotors?
They will bolt straight on 👍🏻
Hi, can i use my bmw e92 330d rotors on my bmw f32 420d?
I wanna pair with the p440 calipers
Hi,
No, I don’t think so.
