Fantastic video, fully real and really entertaining.
Great video as ever Trev. I visited Doe Tor as part of a longer walk this summer taking in Arms Tor, Wigery Cross and Great Links 👍
Great vid again Trev. Very relaxing to watch and great choice of music as well. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much - glad that you enjoyed it!
If you heat the pitta bread first sprinkle some water on it the steam puffs the pitta up to make it easier to open up. Just a tip.
Ah great tip cheers Chris!
good tip
Some great Ideas coming from your channel about food , Good stuff Trev Enjoyed, ATB, Les.
Cheers Les. Glad you're enjoying it.
Nice one Trev 👍. Loved the cooking mate 👌 still looked dang tasty mate. Nothing worse than being woken up by big flaps 😬. Thanks for sharing Trev. Atb Sconja 👍
Hahahaha.... Yea, enjoying the cooking. Just need some more ideas else im juat gonna do the pizzas to death haha. And sometimes it's nice to wake up to big flaps.... Just not these ones 😂😂
good overnite hike Trev loved how you used the Trangia mini
Cheers Craig. Thanks for watching!
Another great Video Trev, I could hear Thom "tutting" whilst you wrestled with that "PITA" Pitta!
Hahah... Yea, I reckon he was lol. Thanks for watching!
Hi. Great videos, very informative 👍👍 I choosing between cloud peak and star river for me and my wife. The cloud peak seems smaller but very regid. How do the star river handle little more rain and wind?
Yeh, the rain and wind keep bringing in a right drop in temperature. Can’t work out what to wear yet. Great vid.
Yea, it's been a strange summer so far, hot/cold, wet/dry and usually within minutes of each other too. Guess that the tent may have been a bit too large to heat for one person too.
Just killing time before leaving to Dartmoor this morning, then I see a new video. Had to be be watched. Great stuff!
Cheers Chris. Thanks for watching. Enjoy Dartmoor!
Amazing Vlogs, making every Sunday better
Cheers Vincent. Much appreciated!
Great video Trev... I see you took the jetboil as well as the trangia mini.. Good shout for a quick boil for your morning coffee... 👍
Yea... A bit of a back up just incase I screwed everything up haha...
I thought PITA was a well-known acronym of 'pain in the a**e'? ;-) I also wondered about the risk of picking up the wrong bottle when needing a drink in the night! I can only imagine how cold it must've been. Save for these last few days, June has been very 'unseasonal' this year. Here's to better weather in July! Good to see you still going solo, Trev and all the best.
Pitta breads can f* off. You can buy sandwich thins which are pre cut nice and thin you seperate them with zero effort. Similar in taste and texture to pitta. Also if you forget your windshield you can use your pack. 👍Great video enjoyed it mate
Once I had the knife the pittas were fine. Nd yea, how cold has it been this june? I'm usually in my summer gear way before now. And have no fear I don't keep the fuel bottle near my drinking supply over night.
@@beatbasher Yea I know the ones you mean. Not a bad shout. Cheers!
I wish we had permissive camping areas in the North-east......nice cook set up Trev, always label your bottles Trev. I agree with your backpack observations, more it holds the more you take. Nice camp mate.....cheers..Stu..👍👌
Cheers Stu - yea we are lucky having dartmoor on our doorstep - can just take off as and when I fancy it now I'm closer too. Cheers for watching, bud!
Trangiatastic!! Great camp. Meal looked ansum. Good stringy cheese.
Always a TOP TIP to not drink your fuel.
Haha! You can have that one for your top tip tuesday!
Cracking video! Glad to see I'm not the only one who has trouble with pitta bread. Keep 'em vids coming 👍👍👍👌👌Atb.
Cheers Colin. Made loads easier once i remembered the knife. 3 years of hiking and camping and I think that was the first time I'd ever used it! haha. Cheers for watching!
Another great video Trev. I brought myself The Firebox Nano gen 2 with xcase from The Bushcraft Store online the other week. It's a fantastic bit of kit. It's designed so the Trangia burner will fit straight into it. It can also be used as a wood/anything that burns stove which is great if you ever run out of fuel or forget to pack it. Folds down really tiny. Glad to see you using the Trangia they are great .
Ah, I think I know the box you're on about. May be a good investment. Will look into that. Thanks Jonathan.
Love the Laurel and Hardy moments......to me, to you Chuckle brother flying solo. Oh yes, what happened to the "summit of nothing" on the Tor? Cheers.
Cheers, glad you enjoy the comedy ... All deliberate obviously. I do the wat cry less and less these days, I know. Sometimes it doesn't even enter my mind.
Top video Trev. Stunning scenic photography. As stated by your subs, 10 seconds over a heat, pitta's blow up, ( not literally ) cut one side before they deflate. I always think that tents with unpegged skirts will flap, just to annoy.
Yeah, I reckon you're right about the flaps- I may try and find or create some way of pinning them down in future. Thanks for watching, Malcom! ATB to you!
That's not your Backpack bulging Trev🤣
Another great video bud
Cheers👍
Haha... All misshapen like that too ... You could be right 🍆😂😂
Another great detailed video, just a tip for storage of fuel . Myself and my son use our girlfriend's nail polish remover containers , it holds enough meths for 5 sessions about 12mins each . There made from tough plastic and don't leak
Great tip thanks Gordon - I will bare that in mind, cheers !
Great video, I have a tent with a snow skirt - Flytop -its a great tent but really noisy when windy and often sounds like someone is moving around outside your tent as the wind swirls around. My brother's Geertop one pegs down which is better.
Yea, was a bit annoying that flap, will save it for the next time it snows, I reckon. Thanks for watching!
thanks for posting brother
Thanks for watching, chief!
Nice video again 😊 And some good advice too 😂
Cheers Torunn, thanks for watching!
I really need to camp a Dartmoor one weekend instead of camping in the woodland all the time ,,
Yea and I need to do some woodland camping. I've had a hammock tent for months and still haven't even put it up.
@@SummitOrNothing hammock camping is ok but a pain when needing the toilet in the night ,
I'm sure I'm going to find the hammock to be a nightmare from start to finish - I can't do knots for starters - it should make a good video lol
Looked a good place to pitch and shielded from the wind as well. I like the way you can put the outer skin on first before the inner, which is the exact opposite to mine, hence me being a fair weather camper lol. Tortilla pouch mare but ended up OK and looked dam tasty in the end, despite the stingy cheese. Misty old morning mind but good to see it clear for you on the walk back down, cheers Alan
Yea - wasn't too bad a location - cut the breeze out behind the gurt rock, although the flaps still pissed me off a bit. Those pizza pittas are bloody good, thanks to Thom for recommending them. Now, I need some more recipes else I am gonna do them to death!
Smashing vid mate. Thanks.
Thanks, Grant!
can the flaps be rolled up? would you suggest this tent? i like the fact that is not only mesh but has the initial part in different material (i guess will help with the wind passing from the bottom), is it making the tent "warmer"? i need a tent for motorbike trip so in the range of 2 2.5 kg, very waterproof and more for chilly/cold weather rather than hot weather.
Nice one Trev , loved the location albeit a tad blowy but that will be normal for dartmoor lol TFS atb Dave.
Yea always a bit blowy up top.cheers for watching!
Headtorch tip, turn one of batteries wrong way round to stop inadvertently turning it on
Yea - youre not the first to mention that!! Hahah! Still, I dont regret forking out £45 - this new lamp is awesome.
Top Gear then summit or nothing. Evening Trev.
Ha ha. Cheers Flash!
I got a Hex peak 6 last year, and found it was the draft that took the heat, not the space. Once I eliminated the draft whilst I slept I stayed a lot warmer, but still had good air circulation. 👍
Draft didn't seem to be a problem in this tent. Usually I can feel the draft and air flowing through the tents, but that didn't seem to be a problem here. I was think I was just decked out for summer when it was still quite cold.
Enjoyable video Trev and you will soon get your NVQ1 cookery skills with a speciality of meths condiment LOL. How did you get the camera to pan when you were on top of the tor in the morning?
Was thinking the same. That was a nice piece of footage.
Haha... Yea I need more recipes though else i'll be sick of pizzas before too long. The shot is achieved using a cropping tool on my editing suite.
Great video with some stunning views. So pleased you weren't bombed during the night! As far as the snow skirts are concerned, do they have separate peg out point? If not, perhaps someone you know who is good at sewing could add some. Might stop the flapping.
Cheers for watching, Ken. The flaps don't have a peg out point, so yeah, I guess I shall have to alter it somewhow.
Great camp... The only drawback with my alcohol stove is it takes about twice as long to boil water. Seems that the wind decided to give you a milder night instead of trying to knock you off the Tor.. 😀
Yea - I know what you mean. You may have noticed in the background in this vid that I had actually bought my JetBoil along too - for just that reason! Thank for watching, Max - hope you are keeping well!
No I did not see that... Covering all bases..
👍😀
Ha that was great, I just use meths with trangia you can't go wrong with purple or the smell.
Nice set up mate, keep up the good work 👍
Cheers Ray. Thanks for watching!
Love that tent.
I've got a cloud up 1. But every time I look at a 2 man I just get a little jealous..
Yea - two man tents are great, more room for man and gear, but I must say that this Star River seemed a little too big and couldn't seem to get warm.
LOL Trev... you make me crack up with your cooking skills mate.. I always use standard meths for the reason that it's purple... so it doesn't look like water!! I buy it in bulk but I have a 250ml meths bottle and just transfer & use that as the container, so it doesn't get confused with any other bottle. Doesn't leak either. Cool viddy mate, nice to see you out wild camping a bit more . Not sure on the tent colour 😁 cheers matey. Lee
I was meant to get the trangia fuel dispenser, but the day I went out and bought all my new gear, they were out of stock in Millets and Go Outdoors. I should have just ordered one - will do at some point! Yeah, the light green is a bit garish, but its a nice spacious tent, loads of room inside and out! Cheers for watching, Lee!
To get pitta bread to puff up, sprinkle it with water first then heat up on trangia frypan that creates steam to puff pitta up. Once it starts to bubble up flip it over!! Ta da!
Have you tried the Naturehike Taga 2? Would be interested to find out how it goes. Apart from that, haven't heard you shout Summit or Nuffin when at peaks for a while!?
Great tip there, Chris. Thanks for that! I havent tried the Taga 2, but funnily enough, I have got hold of a taga 2 - havent had a decent look at it yet though. Watch this space. And as with shouting Summit or Nothing, I tend not to shout it quite so much these days, especially if there are other people around. Don't like to ruin their peace and quiet haha! Try and get one in here and there though.
Nice one. I thought perhaps as Nate wasn't with you, it had been copy written to protect the guilty! Ha ha. In regard to Taga I was torn between that and Geertop 3 season 1 man 2x hiking pole tent. Got the Geertop. Bit tight for a porker like me but 2 generous sized vestibules. As I'm in the throes of selling on old favourites for newer models the Taga might still be in for the running.
Keep up the good work and self deprecation it tickles me to know I'm not the only one who berates himself.
Gordon Ramsey kitchen nightmares springs to mind haha!
Hahaha...
Doe Tor is my go to wild camp spot for a quick unplanned camp. Great video but I'm not sure about the pizza.
Yeah, it was a great spot, and you have to try the pizza before you dismiss it. I am not a big pizza fan, but freshly prepared food on the trail goes down well.
mmmm . methylated spirit tomatoe paste, could be a new thing Trev! haha, great vid
Haha...leading the way in highly intoxicating food innovation.
@@SummitOrNothing at least you didn't drink it!
Top Tip: If your headlamp keeps turning itself on....turn the batteries around in the pack😉....could’ve saved yourself £45 mate😂
P.S Another top vid btw... great part of the Moor...👍🏻
Yep - Ive been given that tip before! However, I liked the idea of a headlamp that can make filming easier in the dark and the old one didnt really cut it! Its been a good investment, I reckon! Thanks for watching!
Nice one, you’ve convinced me to stay with gas🤣🤣🤣 the pitta bread works better by using as a pocket and carefully spread tomato sauce on each inner.
Haha - I hope you'll give the trangia a chance - well worth the effort for the range of cooking- just remember which bottle has your fuel in lol. Thanks for watching! and thanks for the Pitta tip. Although, after finding my knife it all got a lot easier!
I’m not sure how a Trangia increases your cooking option. My Jetboil can turn the heat down to an absolute minimum and so I can cook anything a Trangia can I believe, love to understand more.
@@buck197 Yea, maybe, but I was referring to my jet boil which is all or nothing - only good for boiling really. Other benefits of a Trangia I guess would be that it's a lot quieter than a jet boil and also three times cheaper.
Missus thought i was crazy laughing out loud when you mentioned sticking fuel in your sauce, if you're ever found flat on your back in the moor you can tell them you're fine you just ran out of petrol.
Haha.... Yea that'll be it... That or drinking the wrong fuel, eh? Cheers for watching!
Hi. How can you block the snowskirts? Only with stones or snow? There aren't pegs or buttonholes, isn't it?
No, there aren't any pegging points. You can buy them without the skirts though.
@@SummitOrNothing ok thks. But how do you do if you want protection by the wind thanks to the skirts? The skirts will fly up with the wind and the wind goes inside the tent. Am I correct?
@@fedvolp Not too much I shouldnt think - the snow skirt is an additional length of tent which has been attached where normal tents would end - so it is no worst in the wind, just a lot noisier if you dont pin them down.
Trev would you say the Star River 2 is worth the extra weight and money compared to the Cloud Up 2?
I'd say it's heavier duty, better for winter camping, as it has the snow skirt, is nice to have the two entrances, but for the majority of camping I'd probably go for the cloud up 2.
I'm always put off of this type of tent - how do you think they perform if you have to put it up or break it down in the rain? Also, have you been tempted by the TGO Challenge yet Trev?
Well, its not too much different than the cloud up, in how it collapses, and we managed that during wind and rain ok. And you can unclip the inner first and pack that whilst under the outer and sat on the floor mat too. But then again, if its raining, you're gonna get wet anyway, right?
Hi what was the link to the cooking dude? thanks.
Hi David - here he is - Thom, from Off The Baten Pot!
ua-cam.com/users/axonthomas
So,a little story about mixing up fuel with, well, something that should not have been fuel....I belong to an outdoor hammock group, and we have annual meetups-usually 4x a year. Spring, summer, fall, winter. Well, one winter, one of our regulars was going to make us a special dish-his goat stew. Well, it was dark (it was winter, after all), we had a bottle or two of whiskey passing around the campfire...and he began making his stew. He added his "special brew" to the stew-but had confused the fuel bottle with the special brew bottle. None of us really wanted to say anything, so, me being me, put it close to the fire-where it caught flame and burned blue. We all laughed, made good fun of it (no one finished it though). Chaz, the cook, was a good sport about it. This was about a decade ago, and we still talk about it. There are far fewer of us with the group now that remember the "blue stew" story. Good times though!!!
Haha.... Well glad you all survived and glad it's not just me too. All the best and thanks for watching!
What's the secret of getting the res up to 1080 instantly!? With everyone elses videos including mine atm UA-cam seem to be taking ages making everyone's vid in to 1080
Not sure about that, bud. Do you publish them before they've processed?
@@SummitOrNothing No mate, I never do. It's still oy in 360. Strange. Nice vid mate 👍
Stick it up on private for a few hours Nick before making public... I find YT takes 2 hours per 30 mins of video to make it 1080 then it renders it properly and converts to 1080. Lee
@@BurtonOutdoors Thanks Lee, I'll try that. This is still in 360 and I uploaded it yesterday!
@@assacoon Mmm,mm yes watched it and it's like you filmed it on a Box Brownie pre 1945. 😂🤣😂
Which tent is your favorite?
Cloud up 2 or thw Vik 1
Personally I would not have my drink bottle the same as my fuel bottle. My buddy drew a scull and cross bone on his fuel bottle, but you can't see that in the dark.
If you use everclear as fuel, at least it won't kill you if you mix them up. Just another way to get bombed.
Yea I am gonna get the proper Trangia bottle at some point. I actually always drink out of a plastic bottle, the metal water bottle is filtered water for cooking so shouldn't get took mixed up when drinking.... I hope. Cheers for watching, George.
that thing looks dangerous, convinced me to keep it jet boil
More scope for proper cooking on a Trangia than a jet boil. The thing has been around since the 50's, so I think its stood its ground.
