  • The Festool Domino makes it easy to make butt joints, but can I use it in a crazy way and add dominos inside another woodworking joint like a rabbet? I am not typically a fan of the look of butt joints. I like rabbet joints better from an aesthetic standpoint. So I'm wondering if I can put dominos inside a rabbet joint. Would it be too difficult to perfectly align everything? Let's try it and see.

Today’s focus is on trying a new woodworking joint. I’m trying out a rabbet joint, with dominos inside it for added strength. Was I successful? Check out the video to know for sure.

Another awesome project/idea and video. Not sure why, but my favorite part of all your videos are the “every day life tasks” you do in them. This one was the emptying the saw dust. The only missing was the coffee break with the dog on your lap!

Man that's awesome, nicely done, really like the idea of the rabbit and dominos together, great combo, and dry fit...

Great idea - nice and clean. One thought, plunging deeper into the non-rabbetted piece would eliminate the need to trim your dominoes. That part seems as if it would be a tedious process.

I believe I maxed out the plunge depth so I still had to trim them.

Great Idea! Thanks for sharing. Just got mine and finding ways to utilze id great. Make yourself a simple pull saw miter box for cutting dominoes.

If the domino ends exit towards the drawer side great but if it's the other way it's a guess as to how long it will remain assembled

Maybe I missed something, but instead of cutting and shortening the dominos at the end, why not increase the depth of cut into the horizontally cut (non-rabbetted) boards? Dominos would then be inserted deeper in that side than the other (rabbetted) side, and it avoids having to cut the dominos at the end to account for the rabbet.

The domino doesn't cut that deep. It was maxed out.

Warum die Rillen? Warum die Komplikationen? Wenn es eine Komplikation ist, brauchen Sie Domino nicht.

Why not plane the board before making your cuts. Lot of wasted wood and walnut isn't cheap.
