That's a great tip~! I just bought my Domino this weekend, so I'll be hunting down as many videos like this one as I can find. More please~!! 😀 Thanks much~!
Please keep the videos coming Sedge. So helpful but important to note that those with the df700, the offset isnt 10mm... lost a board last week using this technique. Its not the same for both dominos
Yea, the 700 is a heavy bastard. I like the 500, I don't own one, but I've used it. I figured the extra tenons are going to break at the glue joint. The glue can be stronger than the wood right, which has been proven too many times depending on if it's end grain or with grain.
😊 I was making a step back cupboard and was using domino 500 and was getting miss alignment issues! 😅 what what you just showed Big D was were I was flipping the pieces over ! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the tip! Sorry for being pedantic but when you divided the 400mm by 5 you forgot to allow for the stock thickness which results in the in the two end spaces being half a stock thickness bigger than the 3 middles ones. just thought I’d put it out there. Love the videos man, keep em coming !!
More great info! I finally got to play with a domino at the Festool Experience last weekend at OakTree Supply in Fort Wayne. I so look forward to adding this to my arsenal!
Can this jig work for larger stock say 45mm? Also i used your method 10mm offset for attaching rails to legs but not on end grain. But slots were off centre by about 1mm. Not sure if base to centre of cutter is exactly 10mm.
Got a question for you. When I put my domino jointer when it's on the middle setting the domino basically falls in the mortise. It's loose side to side but up and down as well. 🤔
If you can only count in 10’s then you obviously have a low IQ and/or a poor education. Imperial is incredible for the simplicity once it is understood. Try it. You might surprise yourself.
Thank you Sedge for the Tip ,I hope i can buy the Domino this Year . Its a great Machine . I wish you a Happy New Year and good luck and much blessing . 👍
Sedge I always learn something with every one of your videos, thank you sir! If I may suggest, I'm not 100% sure, but I think if you add the tool attachment name in the UA-cam Title and/or Description, for example: How to use the Festool Trim Stop or Cross Stop, than people can search those keywords when looking for a video on that attachment, and I think it would also help your UA-cam ranking, just a thought, have a great one.
Nice tip. Around 4:26 you do the first one. You mention the that the plunge height doesn’t need to be exactly in the middle but I don’t see why? Did you set the lunge height to half of the thickness of the stock (10) ?
thanks... I use the gauge block set at 20 so I go exactly 10 mm from the plate .... there is no 18mm setting on the gauge block which is the thickness of my material....this will work because I always reference the face of my marked material.. I hope this makes sense...
Hi Sedge. Great video. I’m doing a similar job to this but on a rake in a couple of weeks. Creating a slatted wall going up a staircase instead of newel post and spindles. Have you any tips or even a video showing potential problems and solutions. Thanks

What do you guys think of the Seneca Domino accessories such as the " Dock and the Dock Plate ". You may have already addressed this in another youtube video. If so I apologize. Keep up the great work. Love your videos
Great video. Thanks, Sedge. The only issue I have had with my 500 is the plexiglass guide shifting and then my mortises don’t align perfectly. Any suggestions on that?
i have never had an issue with the cursor if that is what you meant......... I never use the cursor if I am aligning a tight to tight mortise..I make one loose and the other side tight.....my eyes are not as good as they were ... hope this makes sense......
@@sedgetool Thanks for reply. I like using the tight setting and I have found that if pencil marks are spot on, I can get joint perfectly aligned. But if cursor has shifted, the joint/lines shift. When I use the mark/line on underside of Domino by using after market adapter plate (blasphemy😄) or Festool’s plate it comes out perfect. So, the marking on tool is perfect. The marking on cursor is only perfect when it stays in place. I’ll try using reference points more when I can. I noticed you do it that way most of the time. I used to use a biscuit jointer. Perhaps I need to update my process……😝. Thanks again for all you do, Sedge. I’ll tune in to a Live episode soon.
Sedge might be one for festool friday, but I've noticed online plastic covers for the side of the TS55 that blocks access to the blade screw release, claiming that it improves dust collection. Not sure if it's true or not ?
One of the first tasks of City&Guilds boat building always a small Louvre door. It took me ages. I could use my domino 700 to knock out a louvred door stile in minutes. Could I use this jig on a 700 and on an angle? (Handed of course)
I almost didn’t watch thinking that I already knew how to do this. But I learned several tips. Glad I watched. Very helpful as always.
Glad it was helpful!

Good question, what is 400 doublevided by 5?
80
....and if you the draw the thickness of the spindle from 40 cm before you devide by five, you dont ned to do two operations. great video!

@@sedgetool I saw back in one of the Lost in the Catalog episodes about the cover plate
Off topic. Do you sand and paint your projects first then use the domino?
I domino first then sand and paint...

What if I want to turn the styles 90 degrees So the they are parallel to the long boards? Help!
I would scribe a line 10mm from center of where you place the domino and use the base as a reference...
I could also do that, if I had a Pica pencil. 🤪 Still more entertaining and relevant than Off The Cut Podcast, though. 😂

- what's 30 divided by 2?
- 15.
- you're good at metric Big D!

makes sense...
The relief when it's metric not imperial.

Will be making shadow box cases for displaying collectibles, no nail / screw holes to fill, love it!
