Good made video, mr 1960gambit. You could not sitting at home. A busy boy like you will and must go to the tracks. See what happens there. And that it is cold: whatever.....👌 Thx for this cold topvideo 🚆🚆🚆👌👍💪💪👍👌🚆🚆 in Walton Ky. Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands.
This winter is reminding me a little of 1976 - 77 winter. That winter the upper two thirds of ChesapeKe Bay was completely frozen over. And there was snow in Miami.
I remember that one and the winter of 1977 - 78. The Ohio River froze over and people were walking across it to Kentucky. Dumbest thing I ever saw in my life. That ice breaks and you are a goner!
Yes it was. NS ad slow orders out on the line because of the cold. I guess they were worried about a rail breaking from contraction. That is what I was told. Thanks Rick!
WOW, we're +14°C this Thursday and You had -14°C. But, essentialy we got used to have up to minus 10 (on rare days in the period of a decade ; up to minus 27°C: but in last 10 years maybe 5-6 times/days.) We had 10inches of snow in total for last 8 years!!!!!!!!!!! July,August and first half of September :40+°C with no rain or breze of wind. I was going mad during summer. Very sharp and frosty video in Walton KY😊 Thumbs up for determination, dedication and passion to bring us some Quality (Conrail Quality😊) action as usual (Your ™️) 👍👍🤝🖖
Thanks Inferno! Yes, we don't get snow like this in one shot very often here. I can honestly only remember it happening maybe 10 in my 64 years of living here. Our temperatures are going to be above normal after Friday for a couple of weeks and I am so ready for it too! 40C is darned hot! What is that... like 104F? Wow!
Good morning my friend,I’m glad to see that you’re feeling better. Climate change my ass. Scott I hope you have some hot coffee with you on these cold morning, be safe out there and God bless.🙏🏻🇺🇸
Thanks Bill! I 100% agree with you on the climate change / global warming BS. Weather is weather, and it runs in cycles. Back in the 70s they said we were headed for an ice age. I remember them being all concerned about it when I was still in school. Then Al Gore decides to make himself rich by pushing this global warming stuff. It`s all propaganda to fill somebody`s pockets with dollars and nothing more.
Thanks Jeff! Yes, as soon as the train gets by and I say my little ending thing, I`m right back in the warm car! Momma didn`t raise no fool! Lol Have a great weekend!
5° i take thats Fahrenheit not Celsius 😮 wow Scott that is dedication. Great start with the intermodel & 2 dpu's awesome. The video looked black & white at first with the grey sky & snow covered ground very wintry scene. 😊 not been too cold here in UK averaging 42f but we have a major storm coming tomorrow named Eowynne. Some places got a red warning for wind 90mph gusts, lasting until late Saturday 😮. not looking forward to that Scott. Glad you had a productive day in Walton thank you Scott, great job. 😊❤👍
Yes, that was definitely an F reading! Wow, it sounds like you got some serious weather coming Carol! Please be safe and stay out of it if you can! We are going to start warming up after Friday! Hooray!
Yes Scott that’s exactly right about the train running slow because that rail has been froze for a week up there so they have them running on a restricted speed. They call it at 35 miles an hour and that’s all they can run and the worst place for the rail to break is in a curve, when that rail is froze like that it will pop like a piece of glass and all it takes is one or two cars with a lot of bad wheels on them to hit in the right place and it will break that rail especially in a curve. They have the trains down here running from Meridian, Mississippi to New Orleans, Louisiana, which is a 200 mile crew district, but they have them running at 35 miles an hour. I just talked to a buddy of mine headed back home to Meridian northbound on train 344 that’s a daily train that runs from New Orleans to Irondale, Alabama Every day but he was telling me that they had him restricted to 35 miles an hour and they are running one high rail truck after another checking that rail but anyway, my friend just thought you might wanna know that but another awesome video and thank you for getting out there in that cold weather and that snow And we got 9 3/4 of an inch down in my little town and it is just starting to melt. It’s been three days now but you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one.
Thanks Timmy! I figured the cold had something to do with it like the heat does in the Summer. I bet everything has just about stopped down there with that much snow on the ground. Do they even have snowplows in Louisianna? I bet you it will all be melted in a couple of days for sure. We got warmer weather coming here after Friday for the next 2 weeks and I am so ready for it too! Hope you are staying warm! Spring is coming!
Scott you're crazier than i am and i have military Arctic gear!! hell you burned as much gas for the heater as getting there!! wonder why we only see Timmy on grain cars? as for the slow order they have the same road bed shifting issues as with heat just in the reverse but there's also a new issue of any defect causing a rail to break added in to boot!!
Yes, I burned a bit of gas staying warm for sure. That's why I only stay out for 3 or 4 hours instead of all day. It starts getting expensive. You are right. I only see Timmy on the grain trains. I honestly cannot remember ever seeing him on anything else. I saw him 3 times on a single train again on Thursday!
5°F?, heatwave! Two nights ago I was out in -28° with -42° windchills but today it's +8° and my neighbor is taking out her trash in shorts and short sleeve shirt. Just a matter of perspective I guess. Love the double rumble and the EOT DPU! Absolutely awesome action. Enjoyed it a lot, thanks Scott!
I hear you on the "perspective" Lol! 8 is still darn cold though and you wouldn`t catch me in shorts in it for sure! We are going to be above normal after Friday for the next 2 weeks they are saying and I`ll take it! Thans Pat, have a great weekend!
Buddy, I can tell it's cold there, I can hear it in your sighs, deep breaths, and expressions. And as much as I love your vids and trains I wouldn't expect you to be out there, but I know you have to do what you have to do to keep your channel rolling. Yes, anyone our age that grew up in the Northern climes knows how to dress for such, but 8 degrees and a stiff breeze is hard to tolerate for any length of time.
Yes, that first train came pretty quick, and I was talking to Steve and had to run back to the car and grab my camera! I had a brain fart! Lol We are going to be at, or above normal here for the next couple of weeks they were saying on the tube tonight and I`ll take it! Lol
Here we go again. What I'm curious about is why no snow on the tracks. Must be the movement of the locomotives and cars. Appreciate you videoing in such extreme cold weather. Stay safe and warm.
I think it has more to do with when the Sun comes out and warms up things a bit and the snow can melt through the rocks. It always seems to disappear off the tracks first.
Just speculating, but maybe, as you said, the "slow order" is because of the extreme cold. Like in the hottest days of summer the rails can buckle from expansion. Likewise in extreme cold, the rails may be subject to breaks from contraction and being more brittle. And yeah, I thought it was odd to see double DPU's in the middle of an IM .. we normally don't even see 1. Thanks, as always, Gambit for bringing the trains to us .. now go home where it's warm.
Worked outside all week. Have never taken time off for any weather, cold or hot - and the worse the weather was, the more critical it was that I got there. (Built and serviced institutional and industrial process and HVAC equipment in nine states for a contractor founded in '67. That's 1867. Five industrial story tall boilers and furnaces you can crawl under, behind, in the firebox, in the hot deck, in the tempered air deck, etc. Fans big enough to crawl in to and pretend that you are a hamster. Multi million BTU capacity units. Lots of our systems down yonder. Many still coal or oil. And then there was the hobby - my wife took the EMS and fire schools to spend more time with me - putting out fires, cutting people out of what was left of their vehicles, trying to save lives in the truck or helicopter and get them to the hospitals alive. THEN we got to go and stalk trains. Double dpu? High tonnage train. Some great stuff as usual, Scott. Saw Pete in Marion a week or so ago. Where'd you leave Brian?
I did similar work in nuclear power plants. My company built huge cooling equipment that I tested and then I went and did startups after they installed it. I haven`t talked to Brian in a couple of days. I`ll have to see what he`s up to! Lol Have a great weekend!
That`s what I do. I sit in the car till the train gets close then I wait by the tracks. The sooner the train gets there the better! Lol! Have a great weekend!
🛑 Hey Gambit. This is great work, but at 55 I’m worried for your health. We need youngsters like you to be around in 20 years. That’s too cold for video. When it’s under 15*, sit at the computer and hack greatest catches. This is nuts to put your life at risk for these under speed freights. ✅
Thanks! I`m no youngster though I wish I was. I will be 65 in October. Man, I am still trying to figure out how I got so old so fast! Have a great weekend!
Thanks for alĺ your travels ,and efforts to bring us great train videos.
God Bless, Take care
Thank you very much, Bruce! Have a great day! 😊
Super catches on a frigid day! Thank you for a great video Scott!
🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃❄❄🥶🥶💯👍🇺🇸
Thanks Jim!
Dedication. I can’t believe you braved that cold. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks Khy! It was rough, but I made it through okay! Lol
I’m looking forward to watching this video when I get up tomorrow morning and have my cuppa coffee
Nice catch , I don’t remember seeing that many “ 2 DPUs “ mid train with a lot of single locomotives at the front
Very interesting!
2 trains with double DPUs nice Scott😊
Thanks Carlos!
Still a nice song!!!!
Brrr 🥶. Some Hot 🔥 train action though!
Thanks Dale! Yes, it was a bit chilly! Lol
Good action yesterday. Nice video
Thanks Greg!
Nice job👍🏼
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Thanks for going out in the cold. Great collection of trains in the snow.
Thanks so much Alex! I was back out there today (Thursday) It wasn`t as bad, thankfully! Have a great weekend!

Out in 5* weather?! That’s either crazy or dedicated…or both? 😂Hope you had a coffee Thermos and the heater going
It was cold but I had to get out and see what was running! No coffee, but definitely a heater!
Great job to stay in the cold that long to bring us these videos. Just be sure to take care of yourself.
Thanks Jeff! Yes, as soon as the train gets by and I say my little ending thing, I`m right back in the warm car! Momma didn`t raise no fool! Lol Have a great weekend!

Got up to 12 degrees up here....careful, there is a thing called "Snow Blind"
I know what you mean about "snow blind". That was like looking at a welder`s arc there for a while. I needed sunglasses!

Thanks Margie! We got warmer weather on the way after Friday! You will see Timmy again on Friday. I got him 3 times on a train today! Lol
Thanks for braving the cold weather. Diehard rail fan.
You`re welcome! I gotta do what I gotta do! Lol Hae a great weekend!

Thanks Scott! Yes, it`s cold here, but I bet it`s way colder up there where you are! Hope you`re staying warm!
The only thing good about subzero weather is it makes 10 feel good. 😂 good one ❤😊
You got that right!

That`s a great thought and probably a good reason. The cold was brutal, but they still got the trains moving! Thanks Ken!
that 29F been running one up front & 2 dpu's in the middle now for the past couple of months
Very cool! I must have been missing it here then. I know I haven`t seen DPUs in an intermodal for quite a while. Have a great day!
