This song came out in 1975 and was considered their first big hit, it was here in the United States. Their Greatest Hits album is full of endless hits. Give a listen to Telephone Line and Strange Magic. ELO was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 7, 2017 and deserving.
Don't know if you've reacted to any songs by the Traveling Wilburys; Jeff Lynne and George Harrison played together in that band.
They were not as good as ELO
I used to think they were singing Medieval Woman 😆
"Sweet Talk'n Woman" ...
Harrison was a good friend of Jeff’s and later was in the same band called The Traveling Wilboughrys
His production is so good that The Beatles recruited him for 2 brand new Beatles songs..Free As A Bird and Real Love. Love you Harri. Good work 👏
ELO - Tightrope, Fire On High, the concert for a rainy day from the Out of the Blue album.
I second that you look into the Traveling Wiburys, a true super group consisting of George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison. Jeff Lyne also produce albums by George Harrison and Paul McCartney in the lates 80s and 90s, and did production on the two new Beatles songs in the 90s.
You forgot Bob Dylan
Don't forget about Ringo. Jeff produced a few songs for him, as well.
Yup you're getting the essence of ELO pretty well. There's lots more! I insist with "Confusion".
Jeff and George actually became very good friends after ELO disbanded in the mid 80's. Together they created the super group 'Traveling wilburys' and jeff co produced George's album 'Cloud 9'
Such a great band! Do ya wanna react to “Do Ya”? It’s a great song. ✌️
Yes it has a very funky sound as funk was huge in that era.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️☮️🎤🎼
Now you were talking about George Harrison, I recommend you to hear other songs by George: "Blow Away", "Crackerbox Palace", "All Those Years Ago", "Got My Mind Set On You" and "When We Was Fab". Thanks.
This is my fave song by these guys 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
MIDNIGHT BLUE please!
Hello Harri , how are you , yes I love them
Evil Woman was ELO’s US breakthrough song. Released in 1975 fro the album Face The Music it was really the start of that ELO sound that has endured to this day. Jeff Lynne’s albums Face The Music, A New World Record, Out of the Blue and Discovery are some of the greatest albums ever made. If Jeff Lynne’s ELO return live to the UK DO NOT MISS THEM.
Great song Great 👍group.
You’ll like this, Harri. I wore a Beatles T-shirt to the first (and likely only) ELO show I went to in 2019…..Dhani Harrison (George’s som) opened the show. He also came on and did a few tunes with ELO.
If you listen to George Harrison's I got my mind set on You, Tom Petty's I won't back down, Free Falling, I'm learning to fly and Roy Orbison's you Got it you will hear those same backing vocals. Jeff Lynn of ELO wrote those songs, sang and played on them.
You got it is a belter
"I've Got My Mind Set On You" is a cover! Check out the original! ua-cam.com/video/A1E6xvM7PeA/v-deo.html
Terrific song! You've reacted to quite a few songs by ELO, Harri, but you have yet to react to one of their best (no pun intended☺) songs, "Showdown." You'll LOVE it! 🎹🎼🎤
THE BLACKBYRDS "WALKING IN RHYTHM"..CLASSIC..TRUTH!!
The guy, Jeff Lynne, who produced and wrote the songs for ELO (as well as singing lead and playing multiple instruments) is sought after by his peers to produce their records. When the Beatles wanted to put two new songs on their anthology collection they asked Jeff to produce them. He produced George Harrison's album Cloud 9 on which he co-wrote many of the songs, played bass and sang background vocals. He produced Tom Petty's album Full Moon Fever on which he co-wrote about half the songs, played multiple instruments and added background vocals. He co-produced Paul McCartney's album Flaming Pie and played multiple instruments and sang back-up vocals. Just to mention a few of his production projects.
Try "Strange Magic".
Have a great day.
Thank you Harri, for allowing us to follow along on your journey to explore good music! As far as Jeff Lynne is concerned, you could listen for years before you heard everything he's done, not only as a musician, but also as a producer. Whether it's the Night Rider/ Idle Race era, The Move, ELO, his solo album, the Beatles reunion album, the Traveling Wilburys or his new version of ELO, you'll be drinking from the Well of Genius for the forseeable future! I for one look forward to sharing the adventure with you!
One of their best!
Harri, I'm stoked you're back on the ELO train! Lots of great songs left from these guys! And thanks for doing the studio version--it's always best to react to that first. But now that you've done, "Evil Woman", some day you should react to the 2017 live performance at Wembley Stadium in London--it's incredible, and Jeff, who's just a few months shy of his 70th birthday at the concert, still sounds great! By the way, I too could hear George in this song. I frequently hear John in other songs. And once in a blue moon, Paul. Ringo?? No. lol Next from ELO I recommend the studio version of, "Tightrope", or the studio version of, "Strange Magic". Cheers, and thanks for all you do!
It’s great you reacted to ELO next time try “Rock and roll is king” they pretty much sound like beatles on that song
It is often said that Jeff Lynne’s vocals sounds Beatles-like. Some say similar to McCartney, which I never sense. I say he can lean toward Harrison on uptempo songs and Lennon on ballads. Being a fellow Englishman, it is unintentional, of course. If asked who he would prefer to sound like, Jeff probably would say Roy Orbison.
That's a good observation about George and John, and the hi-tempo songs vs. the ballads. While I could always hear both of those Beatles at various times, I never thought of it that way, and now that you've pointed it out I believe you're right. Good ear.
Funny you mention George Harrison. After George escaped the Beatles who SERIOUSLY underappreciated him, he later handpicked friends to become the Traveling Wilburies. They made great music....sad that George, Roy & Tom have all passed away...I suggest "Handle me With Care" as a 1st song from them.
ELO and Wings greats bands, Evil Woman, Mr Blue Sky, Livin Thing, by ELO,. " Goodnight Tonight",Silly love songs, Coming up, by Wings
Check out Telephone Line..he sounds exactly like Paul!
He's already reacted to, "Telephone Line". He loved it. And I think it's probably his favorite ELO song thus out of the 10 or so he's done. When he reacted to, "Livin' Thing", he marveled at how much Jeff Lynne sounded like Paul McCartney in that song.
You really should react to the Traveling Wilburys because they have both Jeff Lyne and George Harrison singing in the same band! It might help you distinguish the voices better and also some really good songs in their own right.
Listen to Ticket to the moon and Midnight Blue
I never really noticed the similarities in the singing of Harrison and Lynne, but I do now.
Depends on the song. More frequently, it's Lennon that Jeff sounds a bit like.
@@Cosmo-Kramer at the very beginning of this song, he sounds like his voice would fit in the Freddie Mercury tradition that I think of George Michael as being a part of, but when the song kicks in, his voice sounds quite different from that.
@@dixgun I don't hear those two, but no doubt, Jeff has a versatile voice--one of the best in rock history.
@@Cosmo-Kramer yes, it reminds me of when I was a wee kiddo and E.L.O., The Bee Gees and Queen sort of blended for me as at least being the same style with the orchestration and the harmonies as well as the lead vocals. It all goes back to The Beatles and especially The Beatles with George Martin and I knew that then, but, more recently, I've come to understand that it also goes back to The Move with the 'Penny Lane'-inspired 'Blackberry Lane,' and Roy Wood bringing Jeff Lynne into The Move, Roy Wood starting that heavy orchestration with the first E.L.O. song '10538 Overture.'
@@dixgun I don't make a connection between ELO and those other groups. They sound nothing like ELO to me. But yes, ELO's sound most definitely traces back to the Beatles. Jeff and Roy owned that, too, clearly stating when ELO was formed that their mission was to pick up where "Walrus" left off.
You would be correct, early 1970’s. From the Face the Music LP.
Close. 1975.
It recently struck my mind, that when Roy Wood had the idea to start ELO with Jeff Lynne, the idea was not just to make a mix of classic instrument and rock/pop, but spanning all kinds of styles and genres. In other words, an _Eclectic_ Light Orchestra. Tramsforming this to the smarter sounding "Electric" is quite obvious.
That's a fun thought for you to have, but none of it is true. It's as straightforward as it sounds. Roy wanted to create a band that combined the instruments of a traditional electric rock band (electric guitar, bass, keys, etc.) with the instruments of a light orchestra (violins and cellos). Hence the name: The Electric Light Orchestra. The word "electric" is not describing the word "light", but rather, the word "light" is describing the word "orchestra". (At the time in England there were some full orchestras, that used every classical instrument; and, much more commonly what were known as "light orchestras", which used little more than violins and cellos.) I'm not saying the band doesn't have an "eclectic" sound. I'm just saying that the word "eclectic" was never part of the formulation of the band name, nor was it part of the band's mission.
@@Cosmo-Kramer you are right about the "official" explanation. Whether the similarity between 'electric' and 'eclectic' was something they had thought of, seems difficult to know.
Mid 70's
Stop making a fool.out of me said the original writer guy out the Zutons to Valerie perhaps better known in. The Amy Winebouse verxion . Was Valerie an evil woman too ? After all she HAD been in prison. ELO have got me thinking here about this other song
This band is great. Luckily, it doesn't remind me of anything to do with beatles like people say here.
nice bra
Don't want to sound critical here, man, but you paused this at the crescendo of this song, at about 5:26. and then you did not rewind it at all, so you missed the absolute peak. Maybe you should think about rewinding a little bit, like most reviewers do.
I agree. The best reactors rewind it 5 to 10 seconds after every pause, and it's very much appreciated by the viewers. Hopefully you see this, Harri, as it would be great if you could begin doing that, too.
Why is it so hard to say you don't like a song when you review it? Should you only review songs you like? Do you feel you will hurt people's feeling? Do all of you reactionists actually preview the song before posting a reaction so that you only post songs you like?... coz I have found it odd how very few negative reactions there are actually posted.. and why do all you reactionists only react to the same songs. Money I guess
