Jeff Lynne is everything, ELO, the frontman, the songwriter, the engineer, the producer. An all round musical genius. The original band (orchestra) was from Birmingham, UK. Jeff Lynne (pronounced Lynn) is 31 in that clip so, nope not dying his hair. One of ELO's songs was used for years as the opening to Wide World of Sports! A very popular song for Blood, Sweat, and Tears is Lucretia McEvil.
My husband and I saw them live at the Tacoma Dome in 2019, it was unreal! They sounded even better live than their recording and they really put on a show, including the UFO set up over the stage with the laser lights.
Kelly Grocutt was the original bassist. He died some years back (RIP). Original drummer, Bev Bevan plays with folk rock band Quill. Several others, such as violinist Mik Kaminski seem to have been involved at various times in the band's history. So I suppose you'd have to say that it's Jeff's band because he did a lot , and now all of the writing and he's been there from the start.
Jeff Lynne (who is from my home City of Birmingham, UK) is a great musician and producer. E.L.O. have loads of fantastic songs and sound just as good live as they do on the studio version. He is about 70 here. My favourite is 'All Over The World' and there are lots of YT flash mob videos of this song. He was also in the 'Travelling Wilburys' with George Harrison (The Beatles), Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. Two of their great songs are 'End of the Line' and Handle with Care'. Jeff Lynne started E.L.O.
Jeff Lynne is the main writer for all the songs. ELO was formed by Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood and Bev Bevan when they left the band the move. Roy Wood left after the 1st album to form Wizard, in the 80's Jeff decided to pursue some solo material and also produce other artists, leaving only Bev Bevan and becoming ELO Part II, when he decided to leave the remaining band had to rename themselves The Orchestra. After performing with Richard Tandy (the original ELO keyboard player) at a Children in need event, a radio DJ named Chris Evans persuaded Jeff in a radio event that people did want to see the band perform by poling the listeners, and an event at Hyde Park sold out 50,000 tickets for the reformed Jeff Lynnes ELO, it was formed primarily from new musicians (some of original members had already passed). He is currently about to do a final tour of the US. There is a vast catalogue of great music to be explored just under ELO, as well as the music Jeff Lynnes has produced mentioned in other comments.
ELO, the British ensemble formed by multi-instrumentalists Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne, successfully injected classical overtones into rock songs. Their sweeping melodies and epic song structures gave audiences rock’s electric kick paired with light orchestral backing. Jeffrey Lynne OBE (born 30 December 1947) is an English musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. He is the co-founder and leader of the rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), which was formed in 1970, and as a songwriter has written most of the band's hits, including "Evil Woman", "Livin' Thing", "Telephone Line", "Mr. Blue Sky", "Don't Bring Me Down" and "Hold On Tight". The discography of the English rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) consists of 15 studio albums, 7 live albums, 40 compilation albums, 13 video albums, 33 music videos, 1 extended play, 50 singles, 1 soundtrack album and 8 box sets. ELO have also sold over 50 million records worldwide. Peace out.
Their catalog ,of songs is extensive and no one ever came close to sounding like them before or since. Every sing song is very different and all came from the genius of Jeff Lynn. He wrote as many as 50 songs for other artists including the Beatles and for 3 of the Beatles when they became solo artists. There is a video on youtube of the fifty songs he wrote for other artists. Sorry for going on so long, but there is so much from this man's career. BTW...he just announced dates for his next tour.
The name “Electric Light Orchestra” is a humorous play on words. Many acts would bill themselves as performing with a “light orchestra” meaning a small orchestra as opposed to a full orchestra. So they were basically saying that they were a small orchestra accompanied by electric instruments. The word “light” was also describing their light show. Often a UFO theme with a 3 dimensional logo that looked like a classic jukebox merged with a UFO. Very imaginative!
Guys - Jeff Lynne's ELO will be doing their final tour, 'Over And Out' in the US, starting in August, with 27 dates all over the US - tickets went on sale March 22! 😊
It was the classical acoustic instruments in "Electric Lite Orchestra" That made them a standout back in the day. In the early 70's orchesta was added to many songs in rock and roll. Speaking of which ...If you ever do Moody Blues "Nights in white Satin you need to do it with/ Late Lament or the song just is not complete.
Evil Woman came out in 1976. Yes it is old. I graduated in 1977, which makes me old as well. The audience is also old. Who cares, they are having an awesome time. This concert was done in 2017. He sounds just the same as he did in 1976. Check out Don't Bring Me Down and Telephone Line. Both from the same Wembley Stadium concert. You will not be sorry.
My favorite comoposers and singers are Jeff Lynne, Paul Mccartney, John Lennon, and Juan Gabriel. I've seen Paul Mccartney and Juan Gabriel in concert, and this year, I will see Jeff Lynne. ❤️🔥 And I'm no Karen. 🇲🇽 I'm a Mexican fan of Jeff since I was a girl. I'm now 37, and my children love him too.
See even back then our " rock" music ,classical instruments were used alot and accepted...all part of the diversity and creativity. Alot of creativity. Had lunch once at Chateau Marmont and Lynne was there...very cool guy! Back in the day you'd run into everyone in LA ! Rod the mod Stewrt in a liquor store! Lol
Evil Woman has been in movies, including Austin Powers, and sampled in hip hop. ELO was one of the biggest hit makers from the mid-1970s through early 1980s. They have songs that are still played and used in movies and TV today. You certainly will have heard Mr Blue Sky. Jeff Lynne is ELO’s brainchild and always has been a pop/rocker. He added strings to create a different sound than what was happening in the early 1970s. He can’t read or write music. Jeff wrote the songs, produced, played lead guitar and other instruments. He’s not a well-known music personality (until more recently) because he was always a reclusive and reluctant frontman; he didn’t like personal publicity. Jeff has an amazing rock and roll music legacy and has help produce and write with many classic musicians, most notably, Tom Petty during his Full Moon Fever (“Won’t Back Down” and “Free Fallin’” phase). Jeff is also featured a co-lead singer with Tom Petty on that “While My Guitar Slowly Weeps” video with Prince.
Prince, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty Dhani Harrison (George Harrison's son) and other played a memorial concert in tribute to George Harrison. That video you looked at "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is the iconic video. George Harrison wrote that song during/for The Beatles. It should definitely be in your reaction list. The sooner the better so you remember who you were talking about.
The way that bands work is that if you join a band, you sign a contract that specifies percentage of money for the sales of discs and merch. The songwriters also get a percentage of royalties. Most bands have a formula based on whether a founding member and how long you’ve been in the band. Sometimes session musicians are hired and they get scale plus potentially a percentage of sales. Touring is handled roughly the same way. Crew gets a salary, touring musicians typically get a smaller percentage of net and bands get a percentage of net per the band members contracts. These days, touring is the way bands really make money. Wembley holds around 80k people depending on configuration. Assuming $20 per ticket, that’s a gross of $1.6 million. Jeff probably got half of the net assuming the rest of the musicians are touring band members. They would split the remaining half. At least that’s how I’ve heard it can work.
That is the WHOLE thing of Electric Light Or. All instruments are electric! I loved this music in 70's, and still because this band was first to perform in this fashion.
Played this song to death on the juke box at the Frog Pond in NYC near the corner of 9th st. and 1st ave. David Bowie's song 'Fame' was a hit tune at around the same time.
Technically this is not what I consider the true ELO. This is essentially just the leader and founding member Jeff Lynne and a totally different band. Still sound great as Jeff is the original singer so with great musicians accompanying will sound like the original.
The violinist's name is Rosie Langley. Magnificent talent and very soft on the eyes. One of the Cello players is her sister, Amy. You can probably guess which one. You should listen to "Livin' Thing" from the same concert. Rosie will blow you away with her solo performance and the song is fire!

Have to do Telephone Line from the same Concert, it's Epic
Rosie Langley violin, Amy Langley cello.
Real music. Awesome.
He was also one of the members of The Traveling Wilburys. ELO didn’t do drugs. When people gave them any, they gave it to their roadies.
Jeff Lynne (pronounced Lynn) is 31 in that clip so, nope not dying his hair. One of ELO's songs was used for years as the opening to Wide World of Sports! A very popular song for Blood, Sweat, and Tears is Lucretia McEvil.
Jeff Lynne is definitely not 31 playing in this video. Double it and add another 15
My husband and I saw them live at the Tacoma Dome in 2019, it was unreal! They sounded even better live than their recording and they really put on a show, including the UFO set up over the stage with the laser lights.
My very favorite ELO Song! But, all are GREAT!
Absolutely love this song , love the piano
Kelly Grocutt was the original bassist. He died some years back (RIP). Original drummer, Bev Bevan plays with folk rock band Quill. Several others, such as violinist Mik Kaminski seem to have been involved at various times in the band's history.
So I suppose you'd have to say that it's Jeff's band because he did a lot , and now all of the writing and he's been there from the start.
Of course there are a lot of women in the crowd loving this song. WE know them, WE see them. Men fall for them too often. Great song/band !
Please react to While My Guitar Gently Weeps with Prince, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood and Dhani Harrrison pay tribute to George Harrison.
Fond memories. ELO was my very first concert.
Do telephone line LIVE & YESSS DO the while my guitar gently weep video for sure AMAZING! ✌🏻☀️
Liked it. An absolute performance.
Grew up with ELO, Jeff Lynne is great.
ELO ( Electric Light Orchestra ) is FIRE.. This song was released in October 1975... Way ahead of it's time.
CanNOT beat that 70’s sound. 😊
Peace out.
He wrote loads for other's too! ELO are up there with all the greatest bands ever
If I'm not mistaken Jeff Lynne composed everything
For the longest time I thought this song was "Medieval Woman". Would be surprised if there wasn't a parody out there with that name.
Hilarious!! Love that! 😂👍
And I'm no Karen.
Lol
Don't bring me down is a must ❤
Evil Woman has been in movies, including Austin Powers, and sampled in hip hop.
If I was there I would be dancing my fat Karen ass off too BP! 😂😂 Love ELO! I was pretty evil back in the day! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
🤣🤣🤣👍👏👏👏
Prince, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty Dhani Harrison (George Harrison's son) and other played a memorial concert in tribute to George Harrison. That video you looked at "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is the iconic video. George Harrison wrote that song during/for The Beatles. It should definitely be in your reaction list.
The sooner the better so you remember who you were talking about.
The GREAT Jeff Lynne!
Hey,hey, hey that's Jeff Lynne and I don't care if he has hair cause he still sounds amazing
This came out when I was in 7th grade great time for music
Did you see him sing with Prince ? "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" with Prince, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Steve Winwood
They're touring this year. Get out and see their show. It's FANTASTIC!!
Saw them last night ( Sept 9 2024) outstanding, go see them on their last tour if you can !!!
Jaclyn was the driving forcing ELO, but at their height in the late 70s early 80s they were unstoppable
Played this song to death on the juke box at the Frog Pond in NYC near the corner of 9th st. and 1st ave. David Bowie's song 'Fame' was a hit tune at around the same time.
That concert is the definition of joy
Technically this is not what I consider the true ELO. This is essentially just the leader and founding member Jeff Lynne and a totally different band. Still sound great as Jeff is the original singer so with great musicians accompanying will sound like the original.
🇨🇦 Wembly holds about 60 to 70,000, so imagine the ticket prices and do the math ! 🇨🇦
Oh yeah, Prince kills it in that video. He is fab.
The violinist's name is Rosie Langley. Magnificent talent and very soft on the eyes. One of the Cello players is her sister, Amy. You can probably guess which one. You should listen to "Livin' Thing" from the same concert. Rosie will blow you away with her solo performance and the song is fire!
They're coming back to the US in the fall to do another tour! Tickets are going really fast!!
Saturday Night Live also did a skit with Christopher Walken as the guy playing the COW BELL....MORE COW BELL!! lol
My guitar gently weeps is the Beatles !
I saw them live....Awesome!
