  • Using multiple arpeggios on different meters and sequence lengths can make for very interesting results.
In this video, I go through the parameter settings used to create a lazy but rhythmically complex patch. Its varying rhythms make the focal melody constantly shift between different arpeggios/instruments.
Let me know what you think in the comments.

It took me a few videos to understand the ARP, but this is a well thought out beast. There went a lot of love in the development of this product. Wow! It’s a good price too, for what it can do. I will have to save up for this.

I love how easy you make it seem though I know it is quite deep!
Really cool stuff. Thank you Chris !

Loved the talk through of developing melodic lines as each channel is designed, especially the modulation effects. Each part sounded really good and quite complex enough on its own. I wondered whether even simpler parts might work better in combination so that the polyrhythmic feature adds more than the shifting melodic lines. As you say it is a great starting point as one could easily manipulate each part as it runs - perfect trial error process of composition. One of ARP's great strengths I think.

Cheers, John. This was just a patch I was messing with and I felt there was enough here to sow some thought seeds. I am planning a dedicated Poly Rhythms and Poly Meters video, post the new firmware release, that is more about the basic concept than just patch experimentation.
I didn't particularly like the 4/1 pattern on arp 1, on its own, but I love the way the focus gently and constantly switches between the 3 arp melodies. I think that, because the point of reference keeps changing, your brain tries to continually realign itself with something familiar.
I could honestly spend all my time making videos on different ways to use ARP but then the new firmware would never be finished. :)

Time division modulation rocks! I already have my dark chocloate midicake arp running wild with all my other gear :) I was very impressed with the size and build. It is actually slightly smaller than I expected, the enclosure also feels more robust than expected and the silicone buttons are an absolute joy to use! Surprisingly better then what I imagined, really. So I'm taking most of my (ridiculusly inexistent) free time to start experimenting, and already came up with a few simple but lovely sequences. Maybe I'll post some photos or videos somewhere soon, do you have any community space on Discord or Reddit or similar for that kind of stuff? Can't wait to dive into polyrhythms and get all confused ahahah. Keep up the great work, Chris, and thanks for your commitment and dedication, it's deeply appreciated.

Thank you for the amazing support and feedback! It's brilliant to hear. I would absolutely love to see and hear your creations. ❤
Feel free to share on midicake.com/forum or send us links to social content. No Discord and Reddit spaces yet, it's hard to maintain the many different channels but I'll get on it.
