That'll be suspended 4th where you substitute the third for a fourth with the idea of maybe resolving to that normal chord with a third. You can also suspend the second. So Csus4 would be CFG and Csus2 would be CDG.
😂😂😂
I was doing 'guess the price'.. thinking Hmm.. £300 would be fair, well built box, nice display.. seems cool ....
had a look - £320
so spot on pricing in my book!
Just got off eBay after selling some gear, saw this by Starsky, AND I WANT ONE! Jeez...
And the Midicake Arp even gets better! There is a big update coming. Can’t wait.😛
Every demo of this I've seen focuses on scale quantised examples and preset chords. Almost all of them try to treat it as a sequencer. I thought the whole point of an arpeggiator was that it responds to live keyboard playing. It would have been good to show how it responds to that aspect, its kind of what it was made for. Its an interesting device though, one thing to mention - it deals with keyboard input differently than any other arp I've seen. It doesn't use the number of played notes to determine the phrase length, rather it imposes a set length on whatever is played irrespective of number of notes played. So that might either be an advantage - if you want to stick to four four time, or a disadvatage if you want to do Berlin school type sequence effects where the time sig/phrase length keeps changing. Or indeed polyrhythms, if I've understood it correctly all arps are forced to a single predetermined length. (I could be wrong about that last bit but check carefully if polyrhythms are your thing.)
I demo’d it doing a track as that’s pretty unique for a sequencer.
It does polyrhythm easily with the new firmware, or staggering the 4 channels...actually refreshingly different from other more trad sequencer based approaches
@@Farold_Haltermeyer thanks yes the new firmware now deals with polyrhythms and note length. Its still not possible to determine note order from the keys though. Note order can be modulated but only by cycling through a fixed set of options.
@@DaveBessell I’m sure that level of deterministic will be added
@@Farold_Haltermeyer apparently not according to Midicake themselves.
I can see this being a fun thing to just plug into a DAW and use as an ideas generator with the MIDI record button on.
Love the Morecambe & Wise reference!
I'm very tempted after watching your great demo, and I am pleasantly surprised that they are actually reasonably priced too. Kindof don't have an excuse not to get it
How much?

This cool device reminds me of a Blokas Midihub albeit with real buttons and a really practical user interface! Interesting!
What a pretty thang! 😃
Nice! Wanted hear more of this lil phunn box!
lovely and smooth performance, especially there at the end! What a way to be released into the day!
Ohhhhh! What great bit of kit...hope it’s a successful- love to see these guys take the concepts further into a fully feature sequencer. The “ trancey” jam you got out of it was bloody good! Well done !
I'm so glad there are new devices like this appearing on the market! Thanks for the review! Would like to see some more jamming of yours with stuff like that!
This is deff a NDLR inspired device, just easier to use as a UI, how much they differ I can't say.
The NDLR is complex, the screen lets it down here which is a shame.
I have used mine well, just that it takes too much mind space to use when using in a live set, all your concentration is aimed at this little box which is designed to take off the load?
This device just looks inviting to play though.
Love the concept. Keep pushing the envelope on what is possible with arpeggiators, please!💪
Looks like a interesting copy of the NDLR. Have you ever tried the NDLR?
0:31 - That’ll be a G suspended 4th scale then 🤔 Do like the look of this though 👍
Very cool box!
Looks really good. Price isn't too bad either. Might be perfect for controlling the SH-4D which has (currently) a mediocre sequencer.
No song mode strikes me as an odd choice. But maybe it’s created for the modular live crowd in mind?
When I saw the “Bounce” button I was expecting a Washing Machine by Mr Fingers rendition 😀
Love the morecomb & wise clip...
Thanks, nice to see someones paying attention ;)
I really like this but I've just got an ndlr perhaps similar to this knowing my gear habit I will still buy it😂
You’re not alone…. I’ve not got an NDLR but might have to get one as well now!
Top intro track man. Captured that yesteryear feeling very nicely. 🤟
Love the "Ibiza and Miami" track.. do you have any albums/tracks to buy somewhere?
Do love a good arp.
Slicker, easier to use, more focused version of the NDLR?
No major 7th? Does it do jazz at all? Looks like a lovely box of fun nonetheless - similar to the Noodler maybe?
Haha… no stranger things mode! It’s dead easy to change the scales though. Just hold the chord button and press any note.
@@StarskyCarrThanks for that, glad it can do Stranger Things! 🤣
midicake ARP ♥
I'm interested in one of these. Is there a U.S. distributor? I can only find European distributors. I'm not all the way clear on overseas customs charges. I got a Deluge with zero customs charges, so I know some countries are U.S. customs friendly. I'll try to do some research, and find out for myself, but sometimes it's kind of difficult to get a solid answer. From my understanding, anything under $700-$800, doesn't have a customs charge, but I've also heard that being questioned.
No distributor, Midicake currently only sells direct. In shipping from the UK to the US there are no import taxes for items under $800. There is a customs fee but it's around $2.
@@midicakemidi Thanks for the reply. I'll more than likely order one when I get paid. I try to find U.S. distributors when it's possible, due to customs, but I've found that customs is fairly affordable from certain places overseas. $2.00 is super fair.
Interesting. Kind of reminds me of the iOS app Fugue Machine.
earlier times: learn to play Instruments and made music by yourself. today: set up the apparel, start them and listen
Earlier times: put on a record and listen to the music. Today: make it yourself.
It’s all cool. 😎 👌
Back in my day we had to make our own instruments to play! Kids these days /shakes head with profound sadness
Can the individual arps have their own individual tempos?
All arps follow the global tempo, but the time division param can be used, per arp, to subdivide and create differential polymeters. We are working to add more options here for the next major firmware update.
So this is basically a Max patch ported via RNBO to Raspberry Pi in an ugly box, right? 😂
I wonder if this is related to the NLDR?
kind of like a simpler NDLR?
Do you know of any plugins that are similar to this?
Here is a cake i baked earlier
Only thing you have thats polyphonic? don't you own multiple prophets?
I meant only thing on the table … the prophets can’t fit 😂 … and then I got the SH4d out and that’s polyphonic too!!
NDLR...
That´s exactly what came in my mind. NDLR is really fantastic, unfortunately I sold mine some times ago.
Just a much better screen and also UI.
I have 1 and find it frustrating to use due to screen and too much info.
You deff need a cheat sheet.
@@ingolf7411 Same..
Also the NDLR is hard to find these days.
Most useful if you're an orangutan or something.
Now that I'd like to see.
