Newcastle and the Northumberland coast are worth a visit!
Recommendations for the North. As said by many, Yorkshire Dales. Also take a look at the Peak District and Northumberland, in particular lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle (some of the early Harry Potter scenes were filmed there), Bambugh Castle (if you ever see someone riding a horse on a beach with a castle in the background, it's usually Bamburgh!). Berwick-upon Tweed has some fabulous walled fortifications.
👍👍
I went there early this week and shoot a video there too

Thanks 😊
If you go again you should go to Grasmere which is an extremely pretty village in the Lakes and has the home of the famous poet William Wordsworth- Dove Cottage. It's also known for its gingerbread. Also drive around if you don't enjoy hiking- there's beautiful views from the roads and much of the more spectacular scenery is further into the National Park than Windermere.
The first lake she is walking round is Buttermere, deep in the Western lakes, one of the quietest and most beautiful parts of the Lakes.
LOVE the Lakes! We had a great time kayaking on Windermere last year. We saw sunbathing cows lounging on the beach, which I thought was AWESOME! I even put those lazy cows in a video on my channel. 🐄 I was excited to see the cows wading in Buttermere in this video. How cute!!!❤️
We were so confused at first haha, we thought they were water buffalo at first. so silly!
Hi Magenta was going to say surprised to see you here but then again i shouldn't be :D
Mouse Potato I’m sitting in quarantine watching all my favourite channels! 😉
Yvettes Vibes well you don’t EXPECT to see cows swimming, wading, or sunbathing! LOL
@@MagentaOtterTravels cows are regularly swum out to grazing on Staffin Island near Skye.
Beatrix Potter purchased a number of farms with the specific intention of sustaining the local breed of sheep, known as Herdwicks. Herdwicks are very important in maintaining the character of the landscape in the Lakes because they are able to roam the fells, the mothers train the lambs how to survive in such a harsh climate. They call sheep that can roam freely 'hefted'.
Beatrix Potter realised that the Lakes would change if there were no hefted sheep to graze the fells, so used her income from her books to sustain the Herdwick flocks.
The value of wool has been very low, to the point where it was burnt, but Herdwick wool makes beautiful, hard wearing, carpets which are now quite fashionable. It is also used for packaging around items in transit that must be cooled, for horticulture and for insulation.
So, if you love the Lakes and want to keep them as they are, take every opportunity to buy wool from Herdwick sheep.
That is such a nice idea! I love it
Beatrix Potter didn't just buy the farms, she also bought around 4000 acres of land the farms were on too. In the latter part of her life she became a Champion Sheep breeder, and also came to be regarded as something of an authority on the Herdwick breed. She was also regularly asked to judge in local agricultural shows. After her death, she gifted the land and farms to the National Trust, which perhaps isn't that surprising given that she was a good friend of a certain Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley, who founded the National Trust in 1895.
There's a company at Near Sawrey that makes designer hand luggage and handbags from fabric woven specifically from Herdwick fleece, www.herdwick.co.uk/herdwick-tweed-bags.html and when combined with wild bracken cut from the fells, Herdwick fleece breaks down into a very useful and sustainable compost.
Northumberland is best kept secret easy access to coast Alnmouth , Bamburgh and Alnwick castle etc and stunning scenery inland all much quieter.
As a child I loved the Swallows and Amazons series of books, about a group of children who have adventures camping and sailing in the Lake District, so I had to visit the area just so I could experience it myself. It is all so quaint, even the boats that cruise around the lakes. If you like the Bronte sisters' books then make the pilgrimage to Haworth in West Yorkshire, I was surprised they lived in a village and not on the windswept moors!
👍👍

I live in the lakes love when people make such amazing videos on it because we really don't appreciate it enough 😂
You are so lucky to live somewhere so beautiful! I was telling Daniel when I was editing it, that it was so relaxing to watch back.
If money was no object I'd move there in a heartbeat. I'm jealous!
No one misses the water until the well runs dry!
Where do you live in the lakes whitehaven
So jealous not to live there
Rebecca and I go every year to Buttermer. We went this year on the BMW bike camping in the camp site in Buttermer.. swimming in the lake near camp. It's fabulous.. at the side of Buttermer is Red Pike.. it's extrem powdery red in places like a rusty iorn texture the mountains rock form... the views look over Buttermer and stunning scenery.. a must visit..
Hopefully we will move to the lakes in fucture.. Will be there again next year.
You will never find a more beautiful countryside than the UK, dogs and all the wildlife just run free as they were intended to do.

Yvette your joy and enthusiasm is infectious. I so enjoyed this video because I am now old and living in the south also my wife isn't very well so we don't get about very much. In the past I lived in Yorkshire, running a Venture Scouts unit and travelling often to the lakes for outdoor activities so your pics and my reminiscences almost brought tears to my eyes. I'm sorry if I'm crossing a line in these days of political correctness but you yourself also enhanced the beauty of the scenes!
We also used to travel to the Yorkshire moors and the Dales and, if you haven't visited those beautiful areas you might like to give them a try.
Glad you had a lovely break in the Lake District. Such a beautiful part of the country. Another place you would probably enjoy is York. It has the Jorvik Viking Centre, The Shambles, the Railway Museum, York Minster and York's Chocolate Story plus other attractions.
Yes! I was hoping to go to York over Christmas, I hear the shambles are very 'Harry Potter" ish, so you know I am keen!
@@YvettesVibes lots of carved figures on the old buildings. Walk the wall for good views. Cathedral is worth a visit inside.
@@YvettesVibes The Yorkshire Dales is also another beautiful area for hiking and viewing the landscape.
I would say Yorkshire dales, definitely.
Definitely worth a week of anyone’s time! Theakstones brewery, tea rooms in Harrogate, Whitby for the fish and jet sculptures. And the scenery while you drive to these places is wonderful. And whatever you do visit Robin Hoods Bay!
👍👍

Simon Morris
Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay are on the edge of the North York Moors, not the Dales.
The Dales are the area enclosed within Pateley Bridge, Skipton, Settle, Kirkby Lonsdale, Tebay, Kirkby Stephen, Richmond and Middleham.
Highlights are Bolton Abbey, Grassington, Malham, Ribblehead, Wensleydale etc.
Beatrix Potter used her book-money to buy fourteen farms and 4000 acres of land which she left to the National Trust. Partly the reason people can walk freely in that area of the Lake District.
An incredible lady. Also an expert mycologist. And I so enjoyed her books when I was a small child.
Whinlatter forest and Thermere and the hardnott pass with the roman fort ruins at the top, so many places to visit up there.
Glad you made it up to the Lake District. As someone who lives here, it's often easy to forget just how beautiful it is to live here until it's pointed out by someone not local and you start to appreciate it all over again.
The walls are called dry stone walls as they have nothing binding them (eg concrete, etc... ).
Windmere I find way too touristy and roads packed with cars abandoned where ever people want and people walking in the road as the paths are full of sightseers, etc... Buttermere is my favourite as it's a little away from the tourists and largely quiet compared to the likes of Windermere and Keswick.
If you want a good drive, take your car over Wrynose Pass and Hardknott Pass. Remember to use your gears to slow you down as you'll quickly over heat your breaks otherwise. Lol.
I will visit this beautiful lake.
I know were only a small country compared to Australia, but we have some beautiful, area's dont you think, in my opinion that's one of the most beautiful parts of it , and I'm Derbyshire, next to the Peak District, like a miniature version..
Glad you are getting out and about in our wonderful Island. Check out the Peak District and the Staffordshire moorlands as well. We are pretty much the whole world crammed into one relatively small island! Look forward to seeing more of our Aussie cousins here.👍
The lakes is beautiful.
Your next Northern trip should be to Newcastle, then the Northumberland coast....... , Tynemouth, Craster, Seahouses and Bamborough - you won’t regret it and all places are dog friendly including almost all the pubs.
It’s the Lake District (singular) or just The Lakes for some reason.
👍👍
I went there early this week and shoot a video there too

We go over to the Lakes for a week every year and I get so home sick when we leave because of the stunning scenery. It's nice in Northumberland but it seems so dull after mountains and lakes around ever corner. It can be horrid in the middle of summer though because of the tourists! Autumn is a good time to go with all the colours.
That said, I would suggest travelling to Northumberland as it's a gorgeous place. The coast especially is covered in castles (I think Northumberland as a county has the most castle's than any other because of it's border position), is beautiful in general with some rugged coast (and massive empty beaches) and you can do a trip to Holy Island and enjoy being cut off by the tide, or a trip to the Farne Islands to see one of the largest nesting groups of Puffins (at the right time of year). If you prefer Roman stuff, older history and/or more rolling hills then head inland and visit Hadrian's Wall (complete with loads of forts to explore) and the Cheviots where you'll find Iron Age hill forts and cup and ring markings. Alnwick is gorgeous too with the castle and the gardens. That's probably best in spring when the cherry blossom is out as The Alnwck Garden has "the largest collection of ‘Taihaku’ in the world. Comprising of 329 trees, they all bloom together for up to two weeks around the end of April/beginning of May." I haven't been myself but pictures I've seen and people I know who have been said it's absolutely amazing.
Another option is to walk along Hadrian's Wall. You could get the train up to Carlisle and back from Newcastle (best views to be had walking that way without having to turn around and in theory prevailing wind behind you). I believe it takes about a week (depending on how fit you are/how much you want to walk each day - some people walk it in a long weekend - it's 84 miles for the whole way) and there's plenty of campsites and youth hostels en route to use. Also, how cool to say you've walked the most northerly (sustained) border of the Roman Empire? hadrianswallcountry.co.uk/walking/hadrians-wall-path-national-trail
Gosh thank you so much! So much information. The colours in Autumn must be amazing, I am scared I'll go and it will rain the whole time! haha
I am determined to go see those PUFFINS on the Farne Islands! ❤️
@@YvettesVibes It's not a trip to the Lake District without being rained on! Whenever we go we class 1 day of rain as being extremely lucky! I recall one trip where we walked around one of the smaller lakes (only about 4 miles) and it was so torrential our gear wasn't even fully dry the next morning - and that was with good gore-tex waterproofs on. If you're lucky with the rain you just get heavy showers and the dark storm clouds over the mountains with breaks of bright sunlight make everything look even more spectacular and make for some of the best days out (especially if like me you are a photographer).
@@MagentaOtterTravels wasnt ian your husband supposed to go see puffins but hurt his leg/foot
ianjohnboy good memory! Yes! But June 2021 Ian, Weston and I will go on another puffin expedition! Either Farne or Skomer. Can’t wait! 💕
York. You have viking settlement, roman walls, one of the oldest streets in the UK plus great area for other localish destinations like Ripon, Harrogate, Scarborough

Beautiful, thanks for bringing us along!
Thanks for watching! :)
I've just come back from Buttermere today I couldn't manage the haystacks _ I started going upto the mountain on the right reached the peak and then moved across the tops and then came down - I was at Derwentwater the week before well done for getting out of London 👍👍
Haha! I know exactly what you mean. We didn't know what we were getting in to! I can tell you that there aren't even haystacks on hte top! cheekyyyy
Robinson next to Haystacks I think.
Camped between the two lakes yrs ago and did Haystacks, was utterly knackered that evening, was very steep and hot, also did the lake walk through that tunnel and past the waterfall.
Hello how are you doing I hope you both are doing well. The lake is so beautiful and the mountains to. The UK is so very beautiful there.
We are well! The lakes are stunning, so underrated
@@YvettesVibes , Hiya the walls in the fields and along the roads are called dry stone walls due to no cement etc are used in building them except for skill of course lol
Come to the other side of the pennines, York, Harrogate (you must have tea in Betty's) Haworth (home of the Bronte sisters) and Whitby (where Dracula landed in England) .
👍👍

Beautiful place is the Lake District. For info as well asBeatix Potter though both versions of Swallows and Amazons were filmed in the area, Donald Campbell did the water speed record on Coniston and there is a memorial to him there. Also William Wordsworth the poet lived there.
Glad you enjoyed The Lakes, I favour Keswick to Bowness (the Bow rhymes with Toe) and I'm one of those people who swim in the lakes. Derwentwater at Keswick has lot of islands to swim to, and is actually pretty shallow and so is quite warm even at this time of year, as long as you take the right precautions.
I'd back what most others are saying, Yorkshire Dale's and Northumbria are lovely, and West Coast of Scotland including the Islands are magnificent in early Summer (before midge season).
Yvette, hope you're watching the new series of All Creatures Great and Small on a Tuesday night on Channel 5! After that, plan a trip to the Yorkshire Dales , and also the World of James Herriott visitor centre at Thirsk. I'm sure you'll love it!
I will be now! I think York has to be next on the agenda!
@@YvettesVibes Just don't try to squeeze all of York and Yorkshire in on your first trip, theres far too much to see up here! York itself is lovely to explore. The Dales, the Moors, the Wolds, the northern Peak District and the Yorkshire Coast all have their own feel... but they're all Yorkshire. Enjoy!
York is fantastic. You have York minster, lovely old cathedral and a great train museum if you like steam trains. And of course yorvick the viking museum.
So glad that you got out of London to visit the real Britain. If you enjoy hicking then get hold of the Wainwright's Walking Guides they take you through some mindblowing hikes.
If you have the time and the energy for it try the Coast to Coast from St Bee's on the West coast to Robin Hood's Bay on the East 182 mi (293 km).
Thank you for the suggestion! That sounds like a huge hike! It would be amazing though :)
@@YvettesVibes Link to Julia Bradbury BBC program doing the coast to coast well worth watching. ua-cam.com/video/UHyHkwUfV8s/v-deo.html
Come to north Yorkshire it might not be as dramatic as the lakes but it's beautiful in so many ways from culture to country side and the amazing history. It is the most varied county in England
Great watch. Thank you. Really enjoyed. We go to the lakes regularly. There's no place like it. 😊👍
I have been to the Lake District many times, it is beautiful when it is not raining.
Well that leaves a few days then.....
I just love the Lake District when I went last year...definetly going back next year!!
Rather than drive around the lake from Bowness-on-Windermere to get to Near Sawrey, (where Hill Top is,) you could have taken yourselves and the car across on the Windermere ferry for about a fiver, and then only had to drive another couple of miles. It leaves from just south of Bowness, and is a Lake District experience in its own right.
Try driving York to Whitby or Scarborough over the moors. The homes of many TV series, good pubs and great scenery.
The best crime dramas are set in the moors! I am hoping to get to York sometime before Christmas
@@YvettesVibes go for it! Yorkshire is beautiful. Mind you it’s full of bloody liars. They’ll tell you they’re the meanest people on the planet. They’re lying they’re actually very kind and generous people in the vast majority!
The Western Isles are nice if you fancy a trip to Scotland but would be better in summer. Post lockdown I would also recommend The Channel Islands for a summer holiday, especially Jersey.
Lovely Sheltie, we have a tricolour. Gorgeous dogs.
Glad you had a great time at the lakes. Coniston water is actually famous for the world water speed records by Sir Malcolm Campbell and Donald Campbell in various models of Bluebird craft..
You were lucky with the weather. If it wasn't for the rain there would not be the lakes :)
I know!! Unbelievable!
The weather is almost always the same here in the Lakes. We have Winter, which is followed by 6 months of bad weather.
Aahhh a Shetland sheep dog.
I grew up with them, my Mum and DaD had 4! (2 x tricolour, 1 x shaded sable, 1 x blue merle)
they are such sweet dogs.
I now have a Portugese Podengo Pequeno.....who is also very sweet, but far more wild and suffers terrible lead aggression
I can’t imagine a place that isn’t green and has moss. Glad you had fun and can’t wait to see more exploring videos. Also love your necklace
Thank you! haha I seriously get so excited when I see moss. I can't wait for when I go back to Australia ( For a visit) and show everyone how dry and dead it is
Come to Texas in the summer, LOL!
Yvettes Vibes is it sad that I also want to see the prickly grass too? I go everywhere barefoot (including mountain tracks lol) but the thought of not being able to because of the grass or heat is something else that fascinates me.
*Yvettes Vibes* It's so amazing ! Love and respect
Too kind!! xx
Glad you enjoyed our amazing part of the world. Shame you didn’t come into the Bridge Hotel @ Buettermere, great pub and we would have loved to see you in there
A few suggestions. Derbyshire Peak District. Snowdonia or the Brecon Beacons in Wales. Yorkshire. Scottish Highlands. Enjoy the countryside.
Stunning!
That was a really relaxing video to watch. Just what I needed
The Scottish borders , Northumberland and its castles , North Yorkshire ( Whitby and Staithes are well worth a visit ) and York is a must .
York and Harrogate - worth a visit.... keep smiling :)

Bo'ness, as in Bow and Arrow not Bow as in Cow.
Time for me to get out of London for a bit & head to the lakes. Gorgeous place, best part is that we don’t even have to leave the country 🤣
Lake district is massive and so beautiful 😍 ❤ xx can't get better ✌
It's an amazing and beautiful county
Enjoyed it - thanks. Dry stone wall are common all over the north. BTW there is a You Tuber that lives in Windermere and posts videos of it ..... Shes a Romanian girl and I think its called Tina abroad x
Thats it! Dry Stone, I could not remember the name ha
Yvette, I keep meaning to go to the Lake District. I live in Birmingham so it's not a million miles away from me. This video has pushed me into booking a stay there next year. Thank you for sharing. You looked absolutely knackered by the end 😂
Thats so close! You are going to love it. I hope you have as good weather as I did!
My father in law is a Brummie... lives in Oregon now. The Lakes is his favourite part of Britain. You really must go!
I love living in the north
How is bambi. Have you been to Castle Rigg stone circle? Now you need to turn and come to where I am Northumberland just as beautiful but even less people
Bambi has post holiday blues! haha So I think another trip up north is a must!
Another Northumbrian here. You can come but 🤫 don’t tell anyone how lovely it is. I kinda like our peaceful little haven.
Have you decided yet if your move to the UK will permanent, or do you think you will ever return to Australia? I think with your complexion you are more suited to the climate in the UK. If I lived in Australia I'd be worried about skin cancer... As well as spiders, snakes, sharks and fires. I'm sure it has lots of positives as well but when just pegging out the washing can turn into a life or death situation I think I'd definitely prefer living in the UK. The fact that you get the British humour tells me that you probably have a very British personality. IMHO I think you are much more suited to life in the UK on many levels. I'm sure it must be hard missing family and friends back in Australia but in our hearts we know where our natural home is and from watching your videos it definitely seems to me that you are meant to live in Britain.
One of the most spectacular places in the world!
So fantastically green. Of course, being from Yorkshire I have to prefer the Yorkshire moors - it's part of my religion.
Steve Gray understandable... i am by the coast in kent, so it appears that we are all lucky in the UK! ☺️
I love all this UK Love!
You should visit the Peak District.
Next on the list!
@@YvettesVibes Hope you enjoy
My nieces Golden Lab would be a nightmare there. It can smell water from 20 miles and absolutely MUST be in all of it, muddy or clear, deep or just a puddle.
Haha! Bambi was pretty muddy! I cut out the part of us washing her feet in the lake
Lassie Comes Home ...nice film.
You have done the North West now try the East Its all amazing too Really enjoyed this one
Thank you! I definety need to do the east now. Hopefully York isn't too far in the future
@@YvettesVibes You will feel at home in Yorkshire It gets cold but the people are warmhearted
My boat's not far from the swan Inn you were sat at the end of the vid . Cost me about £90 a month mooring - but you could offer me £9000 per month and a free mansion for a life in Mayfair and I wouldn't trade it. That there London - you can keep it.
Any visit to the Lake District comes with a curse - the weather 😂. Of course the scenery wouldn’t be as beautiful without the climate but you have to be prepared that it won’t be very warm and most likely you’ll get rain. However for the wonderful landscape there are few places that rival this area.
As someone who was born and has lived in the Lake District all my life, I often get asked about the weather here. I usually reply by saying " we have Winter, which is followed by 6 months of bad weather"......
Unlike everyone else, I simply wish you a uneventful drive back down the M6. Being a resident of Brum I am intimately familiar with that road... and it respects NO-ONE.
Durham is worth a visit
Chatsworth House Derbyshire . The Peak District
Best thing to do in the Lake District is to go to bakewell and eat Bakewell tarts and puddings all day
Er - Bakewell is in Derbyshire ...
@ A Narrow Escape ok, I went there when I went to the Lake District
A beautiful video. Thank you. Really enjoyed it. The only thing to point out - is that the area is called The Lake District (not The Lakes District). Even though there are many lakes and it makes sense what your saying. So I can understand you saying that. But for some reason it’s never pronounced like that in the plural.
Its the Aussie in me trying to shorten everything haah!! Thank you xx
@@YvettesVibes Bowness pronounced Bow-ness.

Yep, that’s right. “The Lake District” or like you say - “The Lakes”

No, that’s ok. I can understand the confusion. It can be called either “The Lakes” or “The Lake District”. But just not “The Lakes District”.
Where did you go on your first hike? Looked good!
Buttermere, it’s stunning.
Love the lakes, but Beatrix Potter would never feature in a trip. You had great weather for it. Did you break the journey back anywhere interesting on the way back or just plough down the M6?
