    Windsor Castle was seriously damaged by fire in 1992. Local residents get free entry with the "advantage card". I think National Trust members get in cheaper.

      Haha I understand... but I had the most delicious Sunday dinner at a pub in the Cotswolds last Sunday. It was vegetarian. And now I’m back home in Texas and craving it!!!

      Rule Britannia i’m too lazy to smoke brisket, but I have friends who do it and restaurants who do it very well also! I have all my favourite foods I eat wherever I visit. I just spent five weeks in Britain eating all my favorite British foods 😋

      Rule Britannia since I’m not really vegetarian, when I had the vegetarian Sunday lunch last week, I had them put beef gravy on it. It was amazing! The meat replacement was a nut loaf... sounds strange, but it was so tasty!

    £25 does seem quite expensive, however I guess unlike other castles (other than crown jewels as you say) it does require huge security which must cost a packet. Also there was a huge fire there a few years back which cost millions to repair/restore, so they may well still be recouping some of those costs. Vegan lunch looked lovely too

    Have you been to Warwick Castle? That's the best intact castle in England I'd reccomend it. P. S. Certain things (in England) are referred to as English such as a Sunday roast is the classic English cuisine. (Not British)

    The Rose garden was open to make up for the fact that other parts of the castle that are normally open to visitors were closed. I think it was more than just the room that houses Queen Mary's Dollhouse, which is in a very small space. I suppose opening up a large garden area was a better option. For a tourist the best deal for visiting Windsor is to get the London Pass, it's included in that. Do Windsor and the Tower of London and that pretty much pays for the pass, everything else is 'free'. Windsor is the most interesting castle to visit as it's a 'living' castle, more people than just the Queen live inside the walls. It has a resident population. Other castles are 'dead' castles as they're just for display no life in them.
    I love the town of Windsor, walking across the bridge to Eton is nice too, especially in term time as the boys are wandering around in their uniforms. (Waistcoats and tails!) The school buildings are spaced around the town, the school isn't totally fenced off so it's interesting to see and another world.

    Windsor Castle "very Disney"!!!!
    Construction of Windsor Castle commenced in 1070.......so I guess Disney was around many years previous, and pretty disgraceful
    of William (he of 'The Conqueror' status), for blatantly ripping off Disney's concept!

    Windsor has got so touristy since the 70's and 80's. A vegetarian or vegan Sunday roast, sacrilege without meat. I may have cut down on meat consumption during the week but a Sunday is special, egg and bacon sarnie or poached eggs and bacon with beans and mushrooms for brekkers, beef, lamb, pork or chicken for lunch and cold cuts possibly with bubble and squeak for tea, uses up the left over sprouts, other veg and roasties, that is a Sunday, with wine of course, Prosecco with the breakfast.

    It’ll cost you at least £25 to get into Warwick Castle - which is a great place. But overpriced ! Add parking and a few of the ‘attractions’ and you won’t get much change out of £50 per head ! Perhaps because it’s owned by Madame Tussaud’s?

    Also, Windsor is the Queen's favourite home. The royals consider Buckingham Palace a kind of administrative headquarters and not really a home. And of course, they all love their Scottish retreat, Balmoral.

    • @mrdarren1045

    Hi, we've just started watching your videos, love your take on England and you're spot on for most of it! We reckon you should try a visit to Lincoln, the Roman capital of England and the best cathedral in the country!( our opinion ). Start at the bottom of the hill in the city centre and walk up steep hill to the castle and cathedral, I'm trying to think which storybook it's like 😁

    As far as I know (I don't think it's a myth, as it makes sense), the royal family has a private tube line and train connecting Buckingham Palace directly to Windsor Castle, in order to get them safely out of central London in the event of a national security threat.

    • @markjohnson9476
      @markjohnson9476 3 роки тому

      No tube line but the Riverside Station has a special waiting room for the Queen.

    • @penname5766
      @penname5766 3 роки тому

      Mark Johnson I'm pretty sure they do have their own tube line. I know for a fact that there are whole tunnels/sections of tunnels within the network that are not shown on the Underground map, which were used for covert ops during the Second World War and which are still closed off from the public. And considering Windsor Castle has been a royal residence for almost a thousand years, it would be perfectly logical that at some point a tunnel would have been built linking it to Buckingham Palace to provide the family with an escape route.
