    Thank you so much for this video! This "no thread error" has been driving me for crazy for a long time. My Bernina manual has no information on why this happens or how to fix it. I am so grateful for your straightforward, easy to understand explanation and fix.

    I absolutely LOVE that you show us how to do simple system checks/repairs/adjustments. I was at a Bernina Mastery class and the teacher and the mechanic were there. I stopped to clean my machine and found a lint ball behind where the bobbin housing is. You had shown us that handy dandy thin tool to get in there to remove the visible lint. I pulled it out and the teacher looked mortally wounded when I stuck it in there. "You CAN'T do that!" I said I could and that a top notch Bernina mechanic named "Bernina Jeff" showed me how. The mechanic rolled his eyes at her. I got a huge lint ball out of there and then went to oil the machine with your oil bottle. The mechanic's eyes lit up! He really wanted one so I gave him your website. The teacher was also upset that I could buy/use oil that wasn't from Bernina. I showed her the video where you tell us what kind of oil that magic liquid is! I am very mechanically minded, grew up in my dad's auto repair shop. I love machines. I also have a brain and would never attempt to fiddle with any of the electronics.
    Thanks for all the tips and tricks!

      You are so correct. My local shop takes 6 to 8 weeks to even look at your machine and starts at minimum $110 and it isn't enen fixed and something else will be broken! It is ridiculous and another 6 weeks to fix the error message they created! Sad

    I live in Montana 2 hrs from my Bernina dealer and I have been fighting the upper thread sensor for a couple months. The first time I disabled and then took to dealer for repair. They said it was full of lint and showed me how to blow canned air in the front slot. That was never the problem, it stopped working almost as soon as I got home!
    Today I found your video and had my machine fixed in about 10 minutes! Thank you for your detailed tutorials!

    This video helped me fix my check spring. I'm disabled and getting my machine in the car and a 2 hour round trip to the shop is a huge undertaking. I also helped another lady online by directing her to this video. I appreciate you giving us hints that help our machines run properly!

    I appreciate this level of help and I did all the steps...everything was in place. I've had a Kaffe 770QE Plus for 2 day and got the empty thread message repeatedly. I have had a 1230 and 1530 for over 30 years and never had to open either one up so this makes me a little nervous about my ability to just sit down and sew all day. There's an old saying, you can''t own 1 Jaguar, you have to have 2 so you have one to drive while the other is in the shop. So I drive a 2010 Rav4 that never breaks down. I hope I don't have to wag 2 machines to retreats so my sewing won't be interrupted. :)

    I just bought a Bernina 790 crystal edition. I have been getting that error ever since I got that machine and had no idea. I just X out of it and keep sewing. It keeps coming back on. Sometimes I turn the machine off and back on and it stops for a while. Thank you so much for posting this video!! Now I know what is the problem. I was beginning to think I got a bad model (and you know how much they cost)!! I'm going to turn my sensor off until my next trip to the shop. Your teaching is wonderful!

    I had this very problem just yesterday. I turned the machine off for about 15 seconds, then back on (reboot), and then removed the thread and rethreaded it. That fixed the problem. After watching your video I took the head cover off just to check the spring and all is fine. I suspect in my case my thread just jumped out of the spring. But at least I know what to look for in the future. Thanks!

My dealer serviced it and said it was fine until about 35 min into an embroidery sample when they said the check spring broke. They are telling me because of this I have to pay for a new the top tension unit to be replaced. Can the check spring not be replaced individually?

    I do have a question regarding problems with the winding the bobbin on the 790. I’ve found that although it is easy to wind, it can cause problems with bird nests on the underside. Can you provide a video that offers the correct way to wind the bobbin for consistent sewing quality? I’ll be most appreciative. Bless you!

    • @berninajeff
      @berninajeff  Рік тому

      You might be winding the bobbins fine. Little nest on the bottom side are from the tails of threads at start. Pull the top thread to the left under the presser foot every time you start to sew even hold on to it

So far my spring continues to perform well (knock on wood). No, I didn't know I could change to zigzag on the fly (if I have the correct stitch plate for zigzag in place, smiling broadly). You DO have some very cool tools! BTW, I bought an LED light bulb from you for my 830 Record and WOW! Let there be LIGHT!!!

    Thank you so much for the helpful videos, they have saved me quite a few times. I am at least 70 miles from my technician to fix my machine. I do have another question, since I have the 770QE with the embroidery module, how often should I take that top cover to off to vacuum inside there, if any? I use your oil and make sure the bobbin area and the case are oiled at least once a day. I want to make sure I can keep my machine as clean and free of problems since I wait once a year to have the maintenance on it.

Have you had any other customers that have complained about this. Hey Jeff - I have a follow-up question, if you have time ... If I've gone thru the process that you shared (twice) and found that the little wire has not come unsnapped from the little black plastic part and seems to be in the right position -- but my thread continues to come un-threaded out of the little wire hook/spring and I get the top thread error (and can see it is affecting my stitching) -- what am I to do next? I have threaded and re-threaded, tried other thread ... and I'm only sewing at less than half speed. Is it time for some other repair?
