Since discovering your videos I have tackled 6 different sewing machines with thread "issues". The BEST one was a woman who was going to THROW OUT her machine because she said it was MAJORLY JAMMED and the hand wheel would NOT BUDGE.So, I went there, she only wanted $15 to avoid THROWING it OUT, took it home and in 25 minutes I had a Brother VX-1120 that WORKS LIKE NEW! Some kind of gooey substance was ALL around the bobbin case and had to be PRIED off GENTLY in order to get all the goo off! But now it went from being a $15 possible piece of trash to an Over $100 Value Piece of TREASURE! Your videos gave me that "little push" I needed to get over my fear I would "break it", AGAIN, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I've been sewing for 60 years (since I was 10) and am very impressed with the way you handled these issues. You wouldn't happen to be a travelling repairman, would you? There are only two in my city of almost 1 million and neither of them, unfortunately, are very good at what they do. Sign of the times, I suppose. What you did in your video would have cost $150.00 for each issue. Judging from the comments, you've help an awful lot of people with their machines!! Thank you and Take care!!
First.... let me tell you how incredibly happy I am to have found this video. I have taken my machine apart... cleaned the bobbin housing..which wasn't really that dirty... checked the timing... replaced the needle... and bobbin.. Then I saw this video. OMG the only thing that was wrong was that my thread was not hooked over the thread arm... Wow..
Three years of suffering through video after video, all the hardware maintenance videos, and this video is what solved my problem. I've made ten sets of doll clothes. A few pairs of pants. Shorts, and even a blanket in the past week. I'm totally stoked. Thanks Sewing Machine Repair Guy!!! I owe you one (^_^)
You good sir are amazing, i cleaned bobbin casing, re threaded the bobbin about 5 times, never, never thought to check the top thread! Solved within 3.58 of watching your video. Thank you very kindly!
Another top threading issue, is when you try to thread the machine with the presser foot down. This closes the tension disks making the machine ready to sew, but if the tension disks are closed when you do your threading, the thread misses the tension assembly even though you may have passed it down past there correctly.
Thank you for your video. I just got my machine out again for some living history clothes. Started out fine all of a sudden everything jammed. Cleared out bobbin, then oiled and dusted down around, changed the needle, then I took everything apart to tighten the bobbin cash-out all back together, but still had an issue- but the case didn't rattle around- I pulled the threading out for rereading- which for finally solved the problem, I just couldn't see that the threading jumped out of place.
Thats a good tip to teach us. Been sewing a while probably never threaded while foot down but it could happen. I will teach that one to my newest sewing learner who is doing very well I must say.
Thanks. I just realized that my machine was not threaded correctly. I am almost done making a quilt for my new grandson and my sewing machine wasn't working properly. Aaah!!! Thanks to people like you on UA-cam... I can carry on.
You nailed the problem I’m having right on the head. You’re a good teacher! You let an audience hear how you troubleshoot, brainstorm, think the problem through. Trial and error to the problem being solved, and shining a light on the mechanics of machine. Cheers.
Wow! Thank you for this video. I couldn’t find a video for this issue, so I stopped seeing for a bit, I prayed.. and then I ran into this video! The video that showed me exactly what I needed to learn. God always provides. Glory to God! 😃
Now I know why so many people love vintage sewing machines. Metal vs plastic. True, you can have the same thread bunching, but the worst that happens is a broken needle, and fun time digging out the thread. Great 👍 tutorial
I learned to sew on a machine my grandmother had that was powered solely by foot power. I never had a problem like was described in this video while sewing on that machine. However, I did once sew through my left index finger when I was 13. My mom said she was glad I wasn't using an electric machine.
This video saved me a break down. I was working on a project and mid way I ran out of my bobbin. I refilled it and then this happened. I looked it up found this video fixed it and finished the project. Thank you so much!
I can’t thank you enough. I got a new machine a few weeks ago, and your instructions saved my life. I did all the steps you showed and it is fixed. Thank you thank you thank you.
God bless you, sir. I started having this problem with my sewing machine for months. It was pretty discouraging whenever I wanted to start on a new project and remembered my sewing machine didn't work. I can´t afford service right now, I'm just working with materials I already own. I share this machine with my mom, too, so you saved us so much money and time and headaches lol. Thank you so much!
This video has been an eye opener for me. Didn't think about how to find out if the problem was the upper or lower thread until now. Thank you! It is most frustrating with intermittent occuring errors. My maschine can work one minute as it should and after just turning the fabric, everything goes just wrong and I have a birds nest behind the bobbin. Now I have tested to make button holes, but neither of the programs work. I will try again now, but use different colours on the upper and lower thread, because it's not only that the button hole programs doesn't make button holes, I get a birds nest also. But now I know the importance of using different colours while trouble shooting! Thank you!!!
Thank you.. everything that happened on this video was happening to me in my sewing room last night. I did everything to try and fix it BUT never knew to check that plastic piece for needle strikes ...so off to my sewing room and try again. Before I bend another needle (which I did)..thank you. And I never thought of using my phone to get a closer look. Be doing that as well. God bless and have a great day
That helped me so much! I have been sewing for years. However, I stopped after my (Marine)fiancée passed away from drugs 10 years ago. Our son was devastated. I got very sick TWICE from Covid and lost 90 pounds. I don't have the money to buy new clothes, so I am making my jeans and shorts much thinner with a simple straight hem. Sadly, I have to cut off the pockets. I will save a lot of money I don't have . I feel privileged to have my Singer and am always able to fix anything I am taught. DIY is very satisfying. Thank you for this video. ❤
You are lifesaver! I’m living abroad and there aren’t any sewing machine repair shop in my town. I tried everything adjusting the top thread tension and bobbin thread tension. Nothing worked. Until I found your video. After watching your video I looked at my machine again “carefully “ and there it was a needle mark. After filing it smooth. Voila it’s works. I’m still staggered how a needle mark can cause this problem. Note to self don’t try to force your machine do what they don’t want to do. Thank you so much. Se safe and healthy 😉
You just saved me a trip to the repair shop! I had a little rough spot on the bobbin case and was looks like a needle strike on the plate cover. After smoothing both of those spots I am back in business! No more looping or a bundle of thread holding the fabric hostage. THANK YOU!!
Damsel..even if you went as I did, they do not fix the problem. I had the first issue and after teo trips and soending $70 for each tune up (I only spent about $200 for my machine - and this was 15yrs ago) I tossed because I couldn't make it work.
Dear Sir, I cannot thank you enough. I have been sewing for a few years, and 'normally' I have solved 'birds nests' by retreading the machine. Occasionally, the thread had come out of the tension slot. This time, I was beginning to go insane, and was prepared to throw the machine out (not really!) You are the first person to mention the bobbin case. I took it out. Yes, it was scratched, a little, but more troublesome were the three needle holes. I ordered a new bobbin case, and so far, it's like I have a brand new machine. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
God bless you! Thanks to you, I found five needle strikes in my bobbin case and fixed the problem. Bless you, now I can resume making masks and sewing quilts.
Thanks for the vídeo. I am a very impatient person. But since I started collecting sewing machines and started dealing with them, I've noticed that It is much better than psychoanalysis.
I've been searching for a solution to my problem for a while and finally found it through your video. Thank you so much! It was driving me insane, especially as a beginner. And for it to be as simple as the upper thread having slipped from the hook, oh man 🙈
Your filing of the bobbin case is what fixed my machine! THANK YOU!! My husband said "yeah, it's due for a tune up at the shop" but I watched 6 videos, yours was the 6th one and it worked like a charm! My top thread was getting shredded into 2" sections in the bobbin case area. I used my emory board to smooth out some rough edges and now no more shredding. Thank you soooo much! Dina
I've been trying to learn to sew in the pandemic. Done very little, but this has happened twice on my brand new Singer. I walked away from it yesterday. Watched the beginning of this, looked at my machine and voila, it wasn't looped through that upper arm. I did it, but it came undone. THANK YOU!
I'm "new" to sewing after about 25 years of occasional repair work. I was looking for tension information, and your video followed another. I like your technique, and it helps me understand why / HOW I completely broke my old machine. Thank you for the detail you provide!
Very helpful instructions. I always like learning from people who include Godly teaching. We all need more of that. My you always be blessed and always be a blessing. Thank you.
You are the best We were going crazy with the looping for a long time, I opened the machine and found a piece of a broken needle and lots of dust collected. Now my machine is good as new Thank you
I was so close to throwing the sewing machine in the trash. After completely following step by step and about 2 hours, a new needle it is like a miracle. Thank you SO much!!!!!
Thank you so much! I followed all your directions & actually used a ball point pen and pushed the bobbin back into place just like you showed us. Praise the Lord! Sincerely
GREAT video!! After messing with my machine fir about 6 hours over and over, I found a teeny burr on the bobbin case. I used a nail file to smooth it and VOILA! It's running smoothly! Whew! Thank you so much!!
Absolutely fabulous instruction on trouble shooting these issues. Easy to follow, both visually and technologically. Answered my questions and my problems. Thank you.
I fixed it! Thank you so incredibly much! My grandmother gave me my machine 12 years ago & I have tried everything for years to try and fix it and was just about to give up and buy a new one.
Thank you so much for this video. The whole time I thought the issue was with my bobbin thread and spend around 2 hours troubleshooting that. Turns out it was my top thread. Fixed in about 5 minutes after watching this video.
Thank you for an easy-to-understand video. I have a 29-year-old Singer 4620c that has never been serviced! I have been getting bottom thread loops for a while now. Taking it somewhere for service would cost me more than buying a new machine. While watching your video, I followed along and serviced my machine. There was a screw next to the bobbin socket that had backed out. Fixed! Thank you again for a great video!
Thank you so much. I have a much loved 30 yr old Husqvarna Prisma 990 which had a rats nest under the stitch plate. Following your video. We removed a tiny burr from the plastic bobbin case plate and it now is like new again.
Great video. I didn't know about the needle strikes. I'm not sure I have any plastic on my bobbin case, but if I ever have that rat' s nest problem, I'll be sure to look!I've found that sometimes I need to change the brand, type and/ or needle size, or even the weight or thread content. Also using Bottom Line brand thread for the bobbin is a life changer if you can find it. I liked the comment about getting any lint out of the bobbin case. Can also be a tension setting problem, of course. I have a Janome 6500 and it's like any thoroughbred. Everything has to be just right before the race. I've had it for years and love it. Thank you again for your expertise. I'll be back!!!
Ok! I'll try it! My machine is doing both of those things 😂 I cleaned a bunch of dust and glitter out of it, but then it did the nest thing. I appreciate your help! God sews as His first ast after creation. That's inspiring.
I love how you cover all the different scenarios of tangled thread but especially how you teach that using different thread colors to determine WHERE to start looking to correct the problem is AWESOME! I will definitely be checking out your other videos!
@@kathyechano9109Could be a couple of issues. First check your bobbin casing area for any dust or fluff particles as anything that finds it sway to wrap around that area will slow it down. Is it slow ALL the time or sometimes? If your motor sounds like it is struggling I would first suggest give the insides of it a thorough vacuum and if you have NOT given it any maintenance for a while a good cleaning and fresh sewing machine oil on all the elbow joints is warranted. Also, if you have NEVER had the gears checked that is a MUST because those gears MUST have a goo fresh coat of synthetic gear grease to allow it to move smoothly. I cant remember if I have a video on machine maintenance and what to look for when your machine starts slowing down. If I do I will send you that link, if I "don't" I am DEFINITELY making one! I always have a new foot pedal (minus the wiring) that I can attach to a machine like that to see if it is just the foot pedal getting old} a lot of times the contacts inside foot pedals loosen over time and all is needed is to open it up and tighten them back down. I will check on that video of mine and get back with you! Thank you for reaching out!
I believe our Singer 530a is locked up. Cleaned 🪥 out, oiled in place of joints... lifted the bobbin and the wheel on the side to help get it started and press on the foot pedal needle will not drop (like it's stuck) at all, it is electric when apply pressure on the foot pedal or leg lever up by the knee for not having to use the foot pedal it still will not budge. Listening for motor sound that you can hear there's energy. Can't figure it out please help- Thank you!
@@Tashvaldez If when pressing the foot or knee pedal lever, needle not moving, the problem could be a couple of things. Make sure that the bobbin winder is NOT ENGAGED. I am assuming that the hand wheel does not move when you are applying pressure to the foot pedal, so it could be that the lug motor belt needs to be replaced. Another problem could be that the "brushes" inside the motor have worn down and you would need to replace them to ensure a complete circuit of electrical contact.
Thank you for this video. I thought my sewing machine was broken. I started looking for a new one but I decided to see if there were a fix. I had to do the steps twice, but…..it is doing just fine now. Many thank you’s!!!
Excellent video, sir! I'm going to give my old Featherweight another try but take the bobbin case holder out this time and check for burrs from needle strikes. I use my Dremel tool to buff out those burrs. First thing I always try is changing the needle and that fixes the issue at least half the time. I use good needles (schmetz) and buy them by the gross. There are no fabric stores within 30 miles of me, so I hate having to stop a project for common supplies. You've done a great job explaining this, and your videography is wonderfully clear and so helpful! THANK YOU!
I taught myself to sew like in a space of say, 3 years and I've these exact issues. This video (I've watched twice already) has been so helpful, each time!
Thank you for the advice. Was having a big problem like you described. Checked my bobbin case and found a big chip on the side. Replaced the bobbin and problems solved.
You are the ONLY one out here who actually solved my problem. THANK YOU SIR! I kept doing everything ... and the problem was that I completely missed the tension path for my thread!
I've seen for 50 years and never knew why thread get so bunched up underneath, Thanks so much for sharing how to solve the problem. Loved your God story too.
Some very IMPORTANT INFORMATION….THANK YOU…many times it is the simple checks that can be made…to correct the situation….And when People learn how to maintain and Care for their Machines …the MACHINES will give them good Service…And I have found over the years that CLEANING and OILING are super IMPORTANT…. Sincerely Carmen Balko
You got a subscribe from me on my first video because I'm pretty sure that you just saved me around 6 hours with that "jumping out of the hook" situation! I just rethreaded and everything was perfect! THANK YOU!!
I was at my whits end with my machine! Thank you for explaining how to fix it so carefully. Once I took off the foot plate and checked the bobbin holder, I noticed it was full of a ton of lint! One good clean later and it’s sewing beautifully. Thank you.
Sonia, I know most of us sew till we drop so I made it a habit when i first bought a machine and taught myself to sew that every time I sat down to begin a session of sewing, I thoroughly and carefully cleaned out my machine. I clean in every space my brush can go and run it down the upper thread guides too. So much can go wrong from a tiny piece of lint or a tiny thread caught somewhere it shouldn't be. Happy sewing!
These are my 2 biggest problems, I thank you so much for covering both of these problems in one video and making it so easy. I have watched some of your other tutorials and followed your suggestions. I find that I feel so much more confident in working with my machine since watching how you fix the problems. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. I have a Husqvarna Diamond and it started pulling in the fabric. I followed your instructions a found small needle strike on the bobbin. I was able to smooth it with a nail file and my machine is working great again! Thank you for these videos - I know you just saved me a bit of money!
Awesome content! Great camera angles. I learned troubleshooting this the hard way as a teenager, with no teacher, no internet & a desperate need to alter or mend something. For years I practically hated sewing until I learned much more, thanks to practice and the internet. My elderly friend had the 2nd issue exactly with her top loaded bobbin machine (mine is front loaded). Thankfully she was able to get the bobbin holder replaced. 2 thumbs up and thanks for sharing.
I have the singer 9960 and had problems w the bobbin case when it was new. There was a slight wobble in it. Turned out the bobbin case had pokes in it wh was catching the thread. The best price I could get on a replacement case for that machine was $99 USD. The machine from Amazon was only $329+tax brand new! The new case was rubber whereas the original was plastic. After I replaced it, no problem and the machine was well used for 8+ yrs now. I guess manufacturers use cheaper parts to keep the cost down but nobody sold the cheap bobbin case as a replacement.🙋
Shalom, thank you for sharing, I managed to solve my wife's Janome DC6030 thread looping issues using your 2 coloured thread method to find the root cause for the top thread tension. Another video mentioned to clean the top tension discs area. My wife was please. Thank you for providing this video.
I found your video about the top thread tension issue and discovered I had a whole mother problem. My very small tension spring for the bobbin mechanism had popped out of place. Got it back in and now my machine works like a charm.
Okay, so my machine (Brother PQsl1500) was doing this yesterday. I rethreaded, and rethreaded. I’m going to go upstairs and try some of these suggestions because I’m right in the middle of a wedding quilt! Thanks for this video! I’m subscribed!
I have had both of these problems and I did get them fixed but not the right way lol So thanks so much for the easier way of doing it You're awesome ‼️🤗
Thank you so much! You helped me fix my issue in the first 5 minutes of your video. I will be coming back to your channel anytime I have an issue. Thanks again!
This is the best video showing exactly what my machine did after being in shop. Now I am fixing to check it out. Thank you for such a great informative video because I am a visual person and it gave me the tools to work on my machine.
I have been having problems for a while. It would correct then start again. As it turned out, I had both problems and this video allowed me to correct both problems. Thank you.
Exactly my issue with thread getting stuck in the bobbin...I hope watching this will help me figure out a solution so I can finish my project. Thank you for this video.
Amazing tutorial Sir. I learned so much and I am teaching my daughter to sew and can teach her how important knowing the mechanism of the machine is to the sewing itself. I have had this happen and did not know how I fixed it, so probably by chance re threaded the machine properly. Thank you very much.
Hooray!!!! This showed up on my feed and I had exactly this scenario with the fabric being pulled down and jamming. FIXED!! Thank you! My Pfaff thanks you. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😷👍
Hi great to meet you...after years of having real problem with my Sewing machine..I was about to get rid of it and....I accidentally came across one of your videos + I immediatetly had a change of heart...I'm sewing night + day...thanks to you Sir...blessings
Just spent a half hour adjusting the tension, disassembling the bobbin housing to see where it caught, and watching other videos with advice that didn't help. Never once did I check the arm😅 Thabk you so much, I can now finish my Christmas presents
Thanks so much, your video helps this is my 3rd sewing machine, 2 were end up in trash because of lack of knowledge, hope this one will last for years.
Hi! Super Thanks for this video! And that trivia 😇 God has used you to create this video and helped us to solve the problem. I tried everything to fix it, and only your advice works perfectly. thank you once again
Your advise fixed my problem with thread getting bunched up in my machine. I was able to easily follow your tutorial. Enjoyed bible trivia as well. Thank you
Thank you so much for this video! I wasted half a day looking at my lower thread; not realizing that my upper thread jumped out of the hoop up top. 😂 This totally save me from going to the sewing repair shop.

This time, I was beginning to go insane, and was prepared to throw the machine out (not really!)
You are the first person to mention the bobbin case.
And for it to be as simple as the upper thread having slipped from the hook, oh man 🙈
Same here! Exactly the same situation and I never thought it was a problem up top, since the rats nest was on the bottom of my fabric.
Dina
Thanks so much for your calm approach. I’m anything but calm when I have problems with my treasured machine...
I've been trying to learn to sew in the pandemic. Done very little, but this has happened twice on my brand new Singer. I walked away from it yesterday. Watched the beginning of this, looked at my machine and voila, it wasn't looped through that upper arm. I did it, but it came undone. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much. I have a new machine that worked properly for about two hours and then this happened. What a great video!! God bless!
Thank you.
You are the best
We were going crazy with the looping for a long time, I opened the machine and found a piece of a broken needle and lots of dust collected.
Now my machine is good as new
Thank you
I was so close to throwing the sewing machine in the trash. After completely following step by step and about 2 hours, a new needle it is like a miracle. Thank you SO much!!!!!
Thank you so much! I followed all your directions & actually used a ball point pen and pushed the bobbin back into place just like you showed us. Praise the Lord! Sincerely
Finally...an up close look at the realities of sewing, understanding tread tension. THANK YOU!!
GREAT video!! After messing with my machine fir about 6 hours over and over, I found a teeny burr on the bobbin case. I used a nail file to smooth it and VOILA! It's running smoothly! Whew! Thank you so much!!
Thank you for the reminder on Gods first recorded works💗🧵🪡 our garments🧸💗
This is the best one off all the videos for fixing the sewing machine.
Thanks for the nice comment!
Absolutely fabulous instruction on trouble shooting these issues. Easy to follow, both visually and technologically. Answered my questions and my problems. Thank you.
I love your video. I did everything you said and my problem was solve. Thanks much for this step step tutorial.
Im having problem with the lose thread down the fabric and i didn't know it jammed up there until I saw what you did. Thank you. It fixed my machine!
Thank you so much. I have a much loved 30 yr old Husqvarna Prisma 990 which had a rats nest under the stitch plate. Following your video. We removed a tiny burr from the plastic bobbin case plate and it now is like new again.
This was always my problem..........can't wait to check my machine now that I know how to FIX it! Thank you so much!
My sewing machine cant run fast..very slow..how to fix it.any help?.thank you
@@kathyechano9109Could be a couple of issues.
@@kathyechano9109 See if this helps you out at all - shows how to see if it is the pedal causing slow machine ua-cam.com/video/TFyXOdPd2Lo/v-deo.html
Thank you so much. My machine is sowing well now. I fixed my machine it with you. You showed me the problem my machine has. Thanks again
The second issue-back to sewing. Thank you!
You the only one help me figured out get it right tension on my stitch THANK YOU!!!!
You got a subscribe from me on my first video because I'm pretty sure that you just saved me around 6 hours with that "jumping out of the hook" situation! I just rethreaded and everything was perfect! THANK YOU!!
I'm new at sewing, and you are the first one to give insight on where the tension on the sewing machine is . Thank you
After hours of frustration and resigning my self to a trip to the repair shop, this took 10 minutes, including watching the video! Really helpful.
My wife's brand new viking opal was doing this, your fix worked. Thank you.
Want to visual lyrics see area of my machine it looks different from yours
I almost didn't watch this because of the length. I'm glad I invested the twenty minutes. Very helpful. Thanks.
These are my 2 biggest problems, I thank you so much for covering both of these problems in one video and making it so easy. I have watched some of your other tutorials and followed your suggestions. I find that I feel so much more confident in working with my machine since watching how you fix the problems. Thank you!
Wow that is fantastic, my plastic wheel under had 3 hole from a jam and now that i file them my sewing machine is back alive!!!. Great video thx u!!
Love your videos. In all my years of sewing I've had every one of these problems (and still do) and your videos help a lot!
Wonderful, glad you were able to fix it! You are awesome!
Thanks for the nice comment!
Awesome, glad you were able to figure it out! Great job!
You are a Genius! I fixed it thanks to you it didn’t cost me a repair charge! 👍 liked 👍
I found your video about the top thread tension issue and discovered I had a whole mother problem. My very small tension spring for the bobbin mechanism had popped out of place. Got it back in and now my machine works like a charm.
Thanks, my problem was the needle strike, fixed me right up. Thanks!
Thank you God bless you, I was so sad because my machine didn’t work and now I fixed it.
I did everything in the video and now my machine works. Thanks very much.
Thank you.
I love your trivia. Thanks for sharing your faith and your knowledge about sewing machines.
Keep up with the good work.
I know this video is 3 years old but it was desperately needed today! Thank goodness I found your tutorial. 😁🖐️
Thank you so so so much!! I was extremely frustrated, and sewing should only be a fun creative endeavor. Thanks again!
Btw, it was my late granny’s machine. I cried when I thought I broke it. I’m almost in tears again now that we can sew together once more 🥰
Quick and to the point-even the manufacturer videos couldn't point it out!
I just got the answer on my problem thanks for sharing how to fix those kind God Bless you more from Hawaii
You saved me! I was so stuck on checking the bobbin, never once noticed that I missed the little metal ring at the top.
This video was very helpful and taught me a lot.
Thanks so much, your video helps this is my 3rd sewing machine, 2 were end up in trash because of lack of knowledge, hope this one will last for years.
Definitely helpful information for any sewer/machine quilter to know - Thanks!
This literally happened to me this morning! What perfect timing for me to find this video!
😅 it was same my problem
5 minutes into the video and realized the thread had slipped out of the upper arm. Problem solved and back in business. Thank you!
