    I went from a 25 year old electric craftsman weed eater that i got for $5 20 years ago to a FS 56 RCE this week. Imagine my surprise when it cut 30 minutes off my actual yard work time and my edges have never looked better. I would tell someone to set their strap up to where your shoulders are holding the machine and your arms are just moving it, then it's like butter.

    I've bought two of the FS 56 RC-E, one in 2021 and the other one in 2022 as a back up and still have them to this day. I do the service(air filter, spark plug and fuel filter) to them every season by purchasing the service kit for them and I do grease them regularly as well. I use nothing but nonethanol gas and mix a gallon of it with the Stihl 2 cycle oil. The original head for them I removed them in favor of the hybrid ugly trimmer head that uses 1 foot strips on three corners or the plastic blades. I love it. I do have one of the autocut 26-2 heads as a back up just in case. I've never used it though.

    I have the FS 56 RC-E. Never used the original bump feed head. Took it off as soon as I got home with it and installed the 20-2 SuperCut auto feed head. It holds 23 feet of trimmer line. The same head they come stock with in Europe. I'm sure my local ace probably sells that canned gas, but they also sell, and recommend non-ethanol, high octane ATV gas they sell by the gallon. In any event, I just buy 93 octane, non-ethanol gas from a local Co-Op station and it fires right up the next year just fine.

    I never heard this guy tell you you got to use I never heard this guy tell you you got to use Stihl 2-cycle oil or it will plug the spark arrestor. Also, I don't know anyone or why anyone would run a weed eater full throttle all the time. The spark arrestor clogging up is no big deal it's one little screw you just take it out clean it put it back in or not put it back in. I started buying gallons of Lucas 2-cycle and my spark arrestors would clog up so I took them out of all my Stihl equipment about 4 years ago and they ain't had no problem since. When you do lawn care for a living you learn little tips and tricks and the service people and especially the sales people in these places doesn't really know what they're talking about. I mean some of them do but for the most part it's just trial and error. DFS 56 trimmer is a good trimmer though I have 42 yards I take care of every week and I have had the same trimmer for 4 years along with a couple bigger weed eaters in case I need to cut thick stuff but the fs 56 is a good cheap everyday weed eater even for a lawn care company or just a homeowner.

    What about blades? I don’t want to pay double for a universal model just to edge my curb.
    It recommends not using blades why is that? Stoppage? I see people using them but I don’t want to hit something and mess it up.
    Will the poly-28 tackle edging without burning through the plastic blades?

    • @carlsmowerandsaw
      @carlsmowerandsaw  3 місяці тому +1

      In order to properly edge you should use a bladed edger Line or poly cuts do ok on soft edges but not great on concrete edges. The FS56 runs a cable and cables and blades don’t get along. Plus installing a blade and trying to hold it and edge with is crazy dangerous. I’ve tried and when that blade “catches” something it wants to run on you. Not good

    Take it from me, do not buy the speed feed type head from Stihl. It's absolute junk it's hard to turn and 105 string is extremely tight getting through the hole until you have said about 20 or 30 rounds through it and it has loosened up a little bit. If you have carpal tunnel, trust me do not buy this piece of junk. They have a universal speed feed that will go on a Stihl weed eater and it is great. My Stihl dealer lied to me when he told me it was a better speed feed and he basically lied to me when he said it would accept 105. I mean will 105 goes through it yes but you have to pull on the string really hard then when you go to wind it in it's extremely hard. Just trust me people do not buy it.
