Put old trimmer line in bucket of water and it brings it back to life. Echo Speed Feed none compares.
Wow. We definitely gotta try that. Thank you for sharing.
It actually sais it on the package :D
I've tried it still gets stuck in head
I let it soak for at least two days
Seriously???? I never heard of that! I'm trying it. Thank you 😊
Complete comprehensive cover of the subject matter superlatively presented. The best I've ever seen on UA-cam or anywhere else!
Thank you Ken. We really appreciate it. ☺
Best way I've found is to grasp the line in each hand and press the "bump area" with your thumbs 👌 no damage to head and no marks in the ground 😊 Greetings from the UK 😊
Here because of AL!! Thank you for giving him the Toro and sponsoring him (so to speak)/ Love you for it!!
Absolutely. Al deserves all the support he can get for the good he;'s doing for the people. Thank you for checking out our channel though, hope you find some of the content on here useful to you.
Man o' Man, this video is the BEST yet on youtube for reviews of trimmer heads and much more information.
Thank you Bj!!!
Thank you Stud for your very thorough explanation of string trimmer heads. Usually, I have to struggle and learn by trying different ways until I get them right. I think I will buy a STIHL and follow your channel to really learn. Today, was the first time I watched your channel and certainly, I follow and subscribe. I have become aware of your channel through your altruistic support to Al.
That's awesome man. Welcome to the channel. Glad to see the videos actually being helpful to people.
Excellent. Highly informative and a pleasure to watch.
We're glad. Thank you.
Thanks for supporting Al Bladez. Your huge gift will serve many people.
Our pleasure Jeff.
U are goooood man.... just made my day... had stihl fiev years, just now understand most my problems in line feed heads...... than U one more time..... seller's need to know this and inform a customer
Thank you so much man, your comment made our day.
Very well done. I learned a great deal. Thank you for this presentation.
Thanks for watching!
In the mid 90's I bought a Stihl FS85 straight shaft trimmer with the 2 hand handle. He recommended the Supercut 20-2 head. Been running it ever since. I have a extra spool that I keep on hand and switch out as needed. I didn't know what I bought until this video. Good review of the popular heads on the market. (I still have the proper size rod to take the head off. Came with the unit when I bought it new)
Thank you for sharing.
I've got the same trimmer from the same time with the same head. :) What's bothering me is that lately the line advances much less often and erratically, which often leaves me with too short of a line to cut efficiently and I can't do anything to advance it. If anybody knows how to fix it, that would be great.
I like the way you do the video.
Very proffesional
Thank you so much. We really appreciate it.
That's a great overview and informed me about the FixCut head I got with my used Kombi system. Thanks!
Awesome. Glad it helped Alan. Thank you for commenting.
Great trimmer line video. Thanks for sharing.

Great video. Very interesting and educational. Thank you. Keep up the good work.
Thank you John. 🙂
I have a Ryobi weed wacker with an awesome speed feed bump head. Awesome operation and very easy line reloading. It holds about 15 feet of line. 👍🏻✌🏻

Thank you Harry. We're glad you liked the video.
Great video. Thank you
We're glad you like it. Thank you.
What you did for Al Bladez is pretty cool. I appreciate that.
Thank you Bill 🙂
The product information with my Echo Speedfeed heads state: .095 - 20 feet; .105 - 10 feet. I did the same as you, woundup the string until the head tightened up. Don't know how much it took up (maybe just shy of 30ft), however, the line heated up and melted to itself. It's best to measure off 15-20 feet and call it a day. I found it works perfectly with those lengths and sizes.
That’s great info, thanks for your input
Al bladez sent me to your channel what you did for Al Bladez was very nice of you guys
Ofcourse, Al deserves all the support he needs for the great work he does. Thank you for stopping by our channel though, Hope you find some of the content on our channel useful to you.
Good information, from Trinidad
Thank you Beann.
The other interesting point about engineering is that the stihl has an issue when you are bumping. The stihl has the recesses and grabbing points on the face of the spool which means when you are bumping they are hitting the ground, the uneven surface and valleys on the head are going to hit uneven surfaces on the ground possibly and chisel away at the head and ground more causing more marks etc. Where the speed feed has a flat and smooth surface which will not grind at the ground and chisel when you are bumping. It uses the outside perimeter to grab to load which as you said, is easier at your fingertips. I guess Sthil was foresighted and did not think about the affects of bumping on the ground with an uneven head underside surface rather than just thinking about how you grab it to wind.
Great video . I have a Stihl Kombi system KM 130 R with a FS - KM trimmer will these heads fit my trimmer ? Thanks .
THANK YOU FOR THE USEFUL VID
Ofcourse, glad this helped :)
Very good video love it
Thank you. We're glad you liked it.
Thank you! Great info...!!
Glad you enjoyed it Patrick.
Saw you support Al Bladez channel. Awesome mower. 👍🎉
hey guys greetings from the Caribbean. i run a shindaiwa 450. The head is a manual feeder. NO bumping, you loosen the thumbscrew, twist to the desired length, retighten and go. is there anything like the supercut, that would fit my sindaiwa? and would those work with the .130 line?
Just a quick note of thanks for your generous gift of a Toro Mower for Al Baldez the mower guy…hope it gives you much pleasure and great advertising experience.
Thank you for stopping by Paul. We really appreciate it.
I love to see that supercut head in action
Us too! Do you own one? if yes, how long have you used them for?
Hi I'm a new subscriber here 👍Al Bladez sent me here
Can i ask what is the max length of string i can use on a shindaiwa b450 using the fixed line trimmer....thanks much
Echo Speed feed number 1. Stihl 25-2 number 2, Stihl 27-2 number 3. I work on a commercial mowing crew.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing.
I have an FS 160. I’ve had it for over 25 years never touched. It works fantastic but I’m having a tough time finding a head that’ll fit it. Any recommendations thank you, sir. I appreciate it. Good job on the video.
Great video
Thank you.
Love the 20-2 supercut. I just got 1 for my FS 230. Works perfectly well... no time wasting... but it's $75 fjd (abit exp here)
Denis, we're glad that you're enjoying your new Brush Cutter. Thank you for sharing your experience with the Main Street Mower Community.
Sold on the supercut!
Great choice.
You just sold me on that super cut 20.2 trimmer head. I despise bump feed heads because I'm always accidently bumping them when I don't want to.
I have one and I love it
I'd be willing to try that pre fixed head if that offer is still available. I'm done with winding lines and getting stuck in the head .
Question, do all head units or mostly all come with those chromed "dog ears"? Those chromed like rings that are where u would feed the line through....
Is there an option youd suggest for an old fs 44 trimmer? Its an old family heirloom that id like to keep running but would like to modernize as well. Head is wore out/beat up and I see some eBay options etc. Would a newer head work on an old trimmer? Thanks for any help.
I would like to thank you for doing what you did for Al Bladez! That was wonderful+you are wonderful! That makes me so happy to know that there's people out there, like you May God bless you all
I might have to try the supercut
Great choice. When you do, Do not forget to tell us how you liked it.
The best video ever
Thank you so much Gee Cee. We really appreciate it.
I'm stihl (pun) rockin the 30-2 trimmer head on my FS110. it's been a great head and I can get the spool replacements at my local dealer. been running it for 14 years now and with slight modification to the spools I run the 3.3mm line. recently I bought an FS91 which came with the Autocut 26-2 and I gotta say I really like it.
Thank you for sharing Dave, we're glad your stihl running the same brand of trimmers. 😉
How do you think does supercut 40-2 will work on stihl fs491 with 3mm line? Because of the original head my line tend to melt and stick inside
I lost my bump spring. FS56 with the Autocut 26-2.
Trying to find a replacement spring
Re-hydrate old trimmer nylon by dropping the spool in a bucket of water (not the trimmer head) for a day or two. Even line that's new but been on the shelf for years can dry out...
Thank you for sharing.
Can I change the line spool on my Worx trimmers to an Echo Speed Feed spool?
I have a Greenworks 10amp 18 inches corded string trimmer (21142) and I trying to find a bump head that works with it. Do you have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I’ll stick with my echo speed feed head. I bullet proofed mine with the bolt, washer and locknut through the center cap and I never have had an issue. Thanks for a great video on all the trimmer heads. 👍👍👍
Hi, can you post a video or pic of your modification with washer ,bolt and nut
@@guybar64 hey man, there are videos already out there on how to do this as If I get time, I’d love to do one to show you exactly how I did mine. If I get some time, I’ll get one uploaded…
A word of advice for all people that are going to trimm their garden.
Cut the entire yarn of line into 3 or 4 meter long pieces.
That way you will save a lot of time and some nerves trying to unwind the yarn of line.
It will be much quicker to spool the trimmer head that way.
Great educational video. Do you know if the Stihl Super cut 20-2 trimmer head would fit on a Honda HHT25 S grass trimmer ?
Unfortunately it will not
@@mainstreetmower ok, thanks . I may get the Echo speedfeed 400 trimmer head. My Honda is brand new, i will see how i make out re-spooling the Honda head.
Thank you.
😁
Thanks 👍
🙂
We get the 20-2 in Australia on FS55 and FS85, they don’t always work but when it does it’s good.
Thanks for sharing Rick. Why do you say that they don't always work? We would love to know what's the consensus in your country.
@@mainstreetmower after about 20-25 years experience line doesn’t always come out and you have to open and refit the spool inside with the string line or the string line has melted and fused together which you mostly just need to detach and reset the line in the two grooves without having to re-spool the whole line..
Used different types of line standard Stihl line and aftermarket including twist which is my favourite, but only 2.4mm0.95, they say to sprinkle baby powder on it to reduce sticking together, I’ve had FS85, FS55 and the smaller FS45&38 which work great with the old tap head, hate the new style heads.
Basic parts for 20-2 is eye lids $3 and $20 for cap replacement in Australia.
I did buy a 30-2 head but yet to use will only run 2.7mm, might try 3.0mm just to see difference.
I’m a Guard guy
I hear every excuse under the sun why not to use a guard, usually I can’t see the edge, productivity but it’s usually because they can put the line out longer putting more stress on the machines.
Contractors out there not using guards, they are opening up problems with warranty and even insurance claims when filming there action, plus giving other users bad habits that shouldn’t be promoted. Insurance companies love to not pay claims, if your a UA-camr that’s no one ammunition to a insurance company.
Hence the use of the Guard in your video today on all blades, personally have used a star blade no 3 they are great for high grass jobs.
You can’t make an Industrial video about welding in thongs, though you have all the other safety equipment.
Someone tossed a Remington rm2560 brought it home it fired right up it’s missing the trimmer line head any suggestions on replacement?
Not sure where you got 10' from? "Accepts 20' of .095" line" - quoted from Echo Speed Feed 400 specs. "Accepts 25' of .095" line" - quoted from Echo Speed Feed 450 specs. If your trimmer line is old & brittle, you can soak it in a bucket of water for a couple days. That will hydrate the line & rejuvenate it. Others have shared this trick on You Tube. I've tried many, many different trimmer heads over the past few decades. The Echo Speed Feed is by far the best one I have used. Loading is simple/fast, & I can live with 20' loaded at a time. I also suggest checking out MaxPower trimmer line tested by Project Farm on You Tube. Project Farm clips are awesome information! No matter what trimmer I bought, I would toss the factory head (unless it's an Echo) & add an Echo Speed Feed on it.
Thanks for the info! They aftermarket Speed Feed instructions say to use 10’ but obviously it’s wrong info
@@mainstreetmower I know 20' of .095 will go into a Speed Feed 400 with ease. I think a Stihl trimmer head will hold more trimmer line because you are taking the entire head apart to wrap the line around the spools. When you do that, you are somewhat wrapping it snug around the spools. The spools could be larger I guess, too. When I load I Speed Feed head, my two hands are manipulating the trimmer head. I am not applying any tension to the trimmer line as it winds into the head. I have to believe the line is not wrapped as tightly around the Speed Feed spools. The nicest thing about the Speed Feed is no tools are necessary to do this. You don't even have to remove the head from the trimmer to reload it. it's actually easier to reload if you don't remove it.
Thanks for looking out for Al Bladez🎉🎉🎉🎉
Absolutely.
The SuperCut is my favourite for every garden. I am going to get a metal head for the vineyard as we have a lot of rocks to deal with and I have wrecked a few
SuperCuts 😬
I love my auto speed feed trimmer head it's the best trimmer head I used
Awesome. What makes the speed feed the best for you? We would love to know.
I have an fs 250, and use the 31.2
I have actually never seen the string being feed like that, and went and searched it. You are right in the way it is supposed to go.
I am surprised that the Stihl dealer never said anything during the times it has been in the shop.
They even replaced the head, and restringed it the same way. Now that I think about it, I believe most people here string it the same way.
Tropical climate here, so a lot of people run the big stuff.
So I will try to explain this. Cut two pieces 17 inches. Take one piece fold it in half put both ends through the slotted holes, then inside send the two ends out the bottom round holes, and repeat for the other side.
This gives four exposed strings. The largest I go is .130, have done this way for years now.
I definitely want to try the right method, and see what kind of difference it makes.
Thanks for the informative video.
Thank you for sharing. We're sure you must have learned the 'trimmer line length' experiment video we did.
@@mainstreetmower sure did.
The fix cut trimmer head using a
.155 heavy line for thick brush cutting is a bit troublesome to load BUT it cuts thick bruch well and last a while. My problem is to get the line to bend evenly while you thread the line through the holes. How can you get the correct bend on the line? When I get it close to the correct bend, the bend will protrude out a bit and shorten the cutting line from both sides.....Anyone with some suggestions?
Very Chill video...
Thank you.
Can I use a Stihl 20-2 speedcut head in my Worx trimmer/edger?
Super-Cut Kraut-SpaceMagic like zeh Glocke ^^ Really Helpful Video my Friend.
I want a trimmer head that is auto feed, but you can quickly feed it new line by ratcheting it. I hate winding line on the autofeed head.
I used some really thick line on my 22cc trimmer. During use, I noticed that the line lasted much longer. But, the motor became really hot. It couldn't spin as fast. I could see that the line wasn't hitting the weeds as hard. Yeah that heavy line is great, but yir trimmer must have a lot of power .
Echo speed feed 400 all the way. Best trimmer head ive used. Holds 20’ of .095 line for every day use, and about 15’ of .105 line, which i use for flip edging.
Awesome. Thank you for sharing Joshua.
Second this 1000% PLUS it is available at Home Depot for $30USD/$45CAD and comes with adapters to fit your Stihl/Redmax/Toro etc (and of course Echo/Shindaiwa)...
It IS the best. Been using since the day it came out, no problems.
do you have a video for guessing about on a John Deere tractor d130 with a Briggs & Stratton TW
Unfortunately we dont
Will any of these speed feed heads fit a Troy Bilt TB20CS?
Which one fits a Weedeater Featherlite FL20? Cheers from eastern TN
good one
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for this informative video, but i have a question about the line
Stihl recommends to put the line before use in the water and let overnight it there,is that every time or just the first one’s and can it be stay on the head or we take of the head( look me all plastic so no problems)
Hey, I think STIHL only recommends that for used line. And I would suggest taking the line off the head before soaking it in water. We did call STIHL to ask them about this, and made a video out of it. Check it out on our channel.
Harry, on your Stihl FixCut 31.2 head it you ran the string through the elongated holes of the head. That doesn't appear correct. Shouldn't it be routed through the round holes so the string lays in the guide?
I use a replica version of the Fixcut head and I use it as you suggested Glen. So using two separate pieces of string I get the four protruding ends to work on the grass. Speedy work.. lightweight for the engine as well ;)
the advantage of the speedfeed is that when the line gets low, it will not fling out. That is because rather than putting in 2 pieces, one on each side into a grabber which loses the line when it gets low, the line goes across as one piece so the opposite sides keep in intact even with centrifugal force. That is why I like them. You do not need to cut 2 pieces and you do not loose it when it gets to the end or even well before like so many that go into a grabber.
That's great. Thank you for sharing this info. Should be very helpful for anyone trying to understand and learn more about the speedfeed heads.
Any of these work on a Worx brand cordless trimmer ?
Al Baladez good job
What is the best trimmer head for sthil 460 brush cutter.
I'm from Australia. My stihl came with the supercut when I bought it.
Thanks for that, once, when a Stihl engineer from Germany was visiting us, he was surprised that our trimmers did not have super cuts on them, that was the first time I realized they may ship machines with different accessories in different countries.
