It's endlessly annoying how people try to force their ideology into the past by ignoring the reality of the situation and instead looking for whatever nonsense they can to justify it, like a schizophrenic.
So the El Pato Pato joke is because in Spanish pato is duck, but pato can also be slang for a gay guy.
God I remember stumbling upon this show once while surfing cable late at night, might've been Showtime and I was at least 11 or 12. In fact I remember coming across some pretty weird shit on late night cable.

It's a term that college art h03s created so they could be part of the alphabet people high club. Basically, if I dress like a clown, It's because I'm part of the gays (TM)
It's plain meaning is "weird", though it used to be a slur for gay.
After this it was adopted by them to mean "gay but political", for example the weird faction that opposed gay marriage as "conformist".
However, the root of the confusion is "queer theory" which defines it as "identity without an essence". As in people who label themselves as "literally undefinable".
QT is like many academic theories in defining the world as oppressed vs oppressor using some form of "property" to maintain status. In QT that "property" is normalcy itself.
Identity without an essence.
The only identifier for queer is for what is diametrically opposed to what is normal, once a "queer" thing is accepted into the normal is ceases to be queer and erases the identity of those who identify themselves with it.
To be queer is to be in an eternal revolution against everything that is normal (I somewhat see that it can be read as everything that is holy) .
It is inherently and permanently unstable with a common objective aligning with "Everything that exists deserves to be destroyed".

Teh believe themselves god, and deserving of achieving everything they want or desire. Try looking at those on that manner, maybe they makw more sense that way.

On a side note I think it's very sad that this show would be considered offensive to current standards when the author Mike Reiss is actually supportive to gay people and once said in an interview he wished a gay writer took over the project when he first developed it.
