Darlene I look for you every single day I so enjoy your channel. Your life and your struggles. I’m 73 and I’ve been around the block a few times, and I feel your pain at times also. I also feel your happiness and joy, and your smiles, and you’re just so delightful. I knew I was going to watch this video, the entire series, but I wasn’t going to do it, I was just going to watch. But after watching you make it, you so touched my heart that I need to make that block, and that quilt. Because it’s a little part of you. I know that sounds corny maybe even a little cheesy. But you made me smile, as I watched you, you had a twinkle in your eye, you put a smile in my heart. And I really want to have what you have, that precious quilt. It will be a reminder of watching you and how much fun you brought me during my time with you. Thanks again for sharing. You mean a lot to a lot of people. More than you know. I missed not seeing Rocket, and Rocket chatter. I hope he’s OK. We love seeing him and how much you love him. I’m a dog person too. Take care.😊❤
So glad you're back with a project. You're low stress methods gave me the courage to make my first quilt in time for the birth of my first great granddaughter. Thank you.
You were the main inspiration I started sewing. You made it look so easy and you were so realistic-nothing is ever perfect. It kind of gives a person peace not to have to have it be so. I'm def. following this quilt series and am so happy for another one of your videos Darlene.
I love the size-difference in the cat's ears. Very often a cat will be perfectly still, and the only way you know it's alert is the slight movement of only one ear. The short ear brings your cat alive. That ear is precious!
I love that you have no idea, and are starting it from the picking of fabric and on. This is extremely helpful to me as a beginner. I am super excited about this !!!😊
During your short hiatus, I watched other tutorials and found why you are the BEST. I started a neat strip set tutorial, followed her to the tee but she left out two or three important steps. What a mess I had…almost threw it in the trash!! But Darlene came to the rescue. Your specific and “fussy” crumb and postage stamp videos to the rescue 😂❤. This is only my fourth comment in two?three? Years but I feel better now.
I love this block! Thank you! I have a tip for you - if you keep a little pile of your 2 patches for your king-size quilt by your machine, you could sew 2 of them into a 4 patch as your starter/stoppers for this quilt. You can get a lot done that way. I learned it from Bonnie Hunter, the queen of scrappy, lol I love watching you. I'm so happy your life is so much happier now. You are very motivating! 😊
Love, love, love how you explain to not stress out. My sister is a STRICK quilter and she stresses out so bad, as where I just go with the flow and enjoy every step. Thank you for all your knowledge.
I do enjoy your creative process. It's a beautiful block. I'm using Christmas fabric in blues and silver. For anyone that wants a larger quilt at the end, you could always make 2 of each block, then put them all together randomly. Thank you for sharing. ❤
I had worked in the retail fabric management and technology industry for over 35 years. People want perfection. You are an absolute joy. Relaxed, stress free sewing. I love it. Perfection is totally overrated. I say enjoy the process and for me, I will only go so far as I'm comfortable with. We all learn the more we sew. That's my way of enjoying the hobby. Thank you for sharing the attitude I love to adhere to myself.
I was gifted about 20 spools of thread, wooden spools that are old and new. My plan is to use it all up, I have no intentions of buying until I have used it all up. Thanks Darlene for being you and not trying to be like all the others.
OMG, that cat is so freaking cute! So excited about this series - you will never ruin anything you make, you're so amazing. Let's go! Can't wait for the next one.
I'm loving it Darlene ! I taught myself how to use a sewing machine at 59 and I came across you and have watched almost every video you've put out from quilting to cooking to drawing & paper beads , doing clothing makeovers and everything in-between ! I learned to quilt by watching you ! My first ever quilt was a scrappy queen sized one for my bed ! Thank you so much for letting me know that it's OKAY ... TO NOT BE PERFECT ! HAPPY NEW YEAR ! Btw , you look happier now & fabulous !!
Hi Darlene! I've been watching (and subscribed to) your quilting videos for a while. This is what I love about your quilting. Your whole creative vibe with the "no rules, no quilting police" approach. After watching hundreds of other quilters, many who scared me off projects because of stringent quilting rules, I kept gravitating back to you. I know this is long, sorry, but I wanted to say thank you for the "don't be afraid to create" freedom you instil in your videos. I'm a much more competent and confident quilter because of you. And I love your chatter😅 thank you for all your hard work. ❤
This will be my first time making a monthly block following anyone. I’m having fun. I made my cat block and love it. I tried up loading a picture of it, but couldn’t. Looking forward to part 2. Thanks Darlene
Hi Darlene ... I just wanted to tell you that I love the sound of your sewing machine. I sew on several different machines but my favorite is my Mother's 1951 Singer Featherweight ... it also has a beautiful sound! ... Oh, and I LOVE the quilt block!!
Darlene, I have never been taught crafts, or art, or anything like this. I so appreciate your being so relaxed and easy about your projects!! It allows me to maybe even consider trying to participate!! Thank you!
I am glad to see you start quilting again ... then I can start sewing again too! I have really fell off the wagon on that but at least I didn't stop buying your fabric! I am definitely going to actually do these and follow along. Thank you so much for the inspiration.
Darlene, that cat looks fine ! Probably no one would even notice the ear if it weren't pointed out . The cat block is really cute and the finished block looks great !! Also love the way that you presented this tutorial , making the instructions clear and simple ! Thank you for that . Looking forward to part 2 ........ Happy New Year !
Oh just made this quilt block you show how to do so well I can’t be leave how beautiful it turn ok thank you going to try your next block looking forward to making this quilt with you all the best Donna
Looking forward to part 2 .I enjoy your presentation. You make it fun and stress-free sewing. Keep up your videos I enjoy I did last years blocks too actually finished. So again looking forward to this year. Thanks Darlene.
Darlene, I love your small kitty cat block. I did the larger version from Missouri Star Quilt a few years ago. I did scrappy cats on the front and used Christmas fabrics for the cats on the back. The quilt is completely reversible. I don't want a quilt that is put away for most of the year. We use it scrappy side out till Christmas then put the Christmas side out for the holidays. I always tell myself that a finished quilt is better than a perfect unfinished quilt.
Yes,,I’m so glad new one,and taking comments,,,,I so love watching you,you are a blast,,,No Rules,,like me,I can’t draw straight line with a ruler.Thanks for for your projects😅
Looking forward to this series!!! I like this block a little…. The kitty!!! I’m going to get my material and start asap! This makes me happy ❤fun way to start off the year !!! My whole quilt will be hand sewn … maybe I’ll add some little embroidery….. cross stitch. Add lace, beads…. Endless possibilities …. A house block would be fun …. So many ideas
So loving this project! Loved making my block and can’t wait til February 😊Still haven’t decided how to finish the blocks but loved the long stitch quilting video. I love how you teach. It makes me think I can do it!!
😊 I want to call out of work. Stay home alone and 🪡 sew. The holly jolly season is stressful. Being alone is something I like to do sometimes never get a chance to do and love sewing. When I’m alone I can think straight don’t know why. Who knows. Glad you get this chance to teach sewing Thanks ☺️
Glad for the new project you have started..the monthly quilt blocks.. I ve seen 1 and 2. And can't wait for 3. Maybe you could do 2 blocks a month....Looking forward to more
I’m looking forward to seeing all the different blocks and quilting. I think of myself as a rebel,I push the boundaries. I’ve learned a lot from you, thank you. ❤
I have a medium size wood spool of heavy weight black thread from WW II era that my Mom used on her and my Dad's military uniforms. My 16 yo grandson just used it to reattach a large button on my deceased husband's (his grandpa) 1960's Navy peacoat that my grandson now wears. I like the black frame on the kitty.
Love love the little kitty cat directions. I've often wanted to learn that and now I know how just come back to your video and follow directions. Thank you thank you thank you darling
It's funny you said Dental floss. I had to re stitch the binding on the edge of my mattress once and Dental floss was the strongest thread I had. It worked a treat and lasted years.
I love the way you take us with you through the entire process of each of your projects. You make it easy for all of us to want to follow along with you...thank you for being you
Gorgeous block! I've had kitties for the last 28 years and have never made a cat block. Can't wait to make this one! I might big stitch/slow stitch with different colors of embroidery thread using size 12 perle cotton. Thank you, Darlene! This is going to be SEW much fun!!
I agree with you about old thread. Even if I am able to break the thread with my hands, reeling off that outer layer uncovers some perfectly good thread.
Remember, there are no quilt police! Thank you Darlene for giving us our freedom. Some of us really need to hear, Just do what you want. 👍👍

LOL LOL Darlene..... I did not mean to say darling....lol
You were the main inspiration I started sewing. You made it look so easy and you were so realistic-nothing is ever perfect. It kind of gives a person peace not to have to have it be so. I'm def. following this quilt series and am so happy for another one of your videos Darlene.
You made me giggle when you said, "Maybe your cat got in a fight and lost part of his ear!". So funny.
Me, too! 😂😂😂
This made me smile too!! We had an old tomcat Nightmare and he had mangled ears!!! I cannot wait to stitch this critter up😊
“I have no point…” 🤣 That is part of your charm!
So happy that you are sewing again! I love that you tell us that the block doesn't have to be perfect! The word that comes to mind is unique!
I love the size-difference in the cat's ears. Very often a cat will be perfectly still, and the only way you know it's alert is the slight movement of only one ear. The short ear brings your cat alive. That ear is precious!

I love the black border
Very nice. I like the black. Sets it off the cat nicely, and also, the block to the left of it ties it in quite well.
I love this block! Thank you!

happier now. You are very motivating! 😊
Nope! The last thing I want to be doing while I’m sewing is having to be careful when I start and stop.
Glad your back to quilting . You are SO TALENTED. Love the cat block. Diane
I'm so glad you're teaching again. I always learn something new or imaginative from you.
Love, love, love how you explain to not stress out. My sister is a STRICK quilter and she stresses out so bad, as where I just go with the flow and enjoy every step. Thank you for all your knowledge.

I like the black, makes everything pop. Sets off the cat beautifully. Great job Darlene!
You crack me up. I love your sweet sarcasm. You make people feel very comfortable and not judged. Nice video
So glad to see another scrappy project from you. I look forward to following along. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
The black really makes the cat pop. Looks good.
i really like this and with the black around the cat it looks like it is sitting in the window and i like that
Love the quilt block!!

It’s really nice Darlene. Makes me want to sew again😅
I’m so glad you are doing a scrappy quilt in a one a month program. I really enjoy your style of sewing. Looking forward to this adventure this year.
Yippee- a new project! Love your quilts. ❤️😁🌹
This is going to be so much fun😊
LOVE the sound of scissors cutting through fabric.

Oh i love love the cat! This block is great. ❤
You’re doing great. I missed your videos when you weren’t doing blocks.
Improvisational quilting. Love it. Wish I’d met you when I started quilting. I love scrappy and wonky. Kinda like you too. That sense of humour.🙃
Darlene, I have never been taught crafts, or art, or anything like this. I so appreciate your being so relaxed and easy about your projects!! It allows me to maybe even consider trying to participate!! Thank you!

A fussy cut 6.5 inch square would look nice and be easy for beginners. Thanks Darlene.
Darlene, I love your small kitty cat block. I did the larger version from Missouri Star Quilt a few years ago. I did scrappy cats on the front and used Christmas fabrics for the cats on the back.
