Thank you for showing that method of knot! I'm 79 years old and have sewn, embroidered, and quilted for over 45 years, and that method is brand new to me!
Darlene I absolutely love your block. I’ve done wide stitches in the past - Like 45 years ago. I’ve used the cotton thread like this too and then was ruined by All the fussy quilt shows! lol. I love your style and am glad you’re back to sewing/quilting.
I love your techniques! Regarding the knots, they are a part of the work. Your concern about them reminds me of the fairy tale about the princess and the pea 😂😂😂!
I like the long stitch added. I heard from a lot of crafters that it is very relaxing. Omg I have never seen a knot done like that. I will be practicing that one. Lol
I really enjoy your improv style. I love your big stitches, but I’m doing small stitch hand-quilting because I want to practice that style. I’m having so much fun! I’m going to be looking forward to this every month! ❤ Thank you for this series
Little kitty block is turning out sooooo sweet! Love the black stitching. I do most of my hand quilting with Big Stitch. I just prefer the look. If you go to the trouble of hand stitching I think it should show. A handy method of marking is the Frixion pen. It comes is a variety of colors and how do you erase, you ask. Just hit it with a hot iron...Magic! Thanks for the knot trick❤
I really like how that block turned out. Lol.. I have totes of #10 crochet cotton (every color ever made I'm sure) that I've had for years. Making doilies since I was 7 yrs old (now 65) was my specialty. I might give this a try since I can no longer make doilies/ dresser scarves or table runners. Thank you for sharing😊
Loving this - I did hand stitching for a while but then went off it a bit - now I'm going to have to go back! It looks terrific (or beaut as we would say - not really) I'm thinking this block and a matching one would make a great tote, esp with the hand stitching. I'll ponder that for a while
Love your quilting attitude- similar to mine LOL- I am wondering if black cornerstones would look good between your big blocks... (oh not if your ragging)
My first ever quilt I made was all hand quilted, definitely not perfection straight but I loved the character it possessed. I love the knotting. I usually make a French knot. As a lefty I would start my lines from the red fabric going down to the green on the same side you quilted on.
Darlene, your block is beautiful. If you find working with the large needle you might try a self- threading needle. You can sometimes find them at the dollar store. I use them frequently with my 77 yr old eyes I have trouble threading needles.
I have to be honest....I thought the idea of the black long stitch would ruin that beautiful block. But I have to say now, I think it's absolutley adorable!!!!!
Darlene. You are such a through instructor. I am an experienced seamstress of many years. But watching you always brings something new to me. Looking forward to seeing many more of your videos. Take care girl
Love this! Heading to the store tomorrow for crochet thread! I will definitely try hand stitching! I have never made a rag quilt, so I am so thankful for you, Darlene, and for this opportunity to try new things. Such fun!
Wow a 30 minute video... you go girl! I call that needle a darning needle, but I'm not sure. I love how you explained the knot! I really like the long stitching.
Well I got two blocks done! I’ll do March block soon! I enjoyed it thoroughly! I did flip some pieces (rows) because of the color blending better. Altho the small square is tedious I absolutely love it and will definitely get them all done! Looking forward to the rest! ❤
I know it makes you feel good to say "god bless everyone" but please have respect for those who do not believe in god and don't want prayers pushed on them. You don't know "everyone" so you have no clue what "everyone" believes.
❤❤❤ I love it Darlene,, im so excited to get going. Mine is going to be for my first grandbaby boy and is going to be baby boy themed 😅 . You've are so inspiring
Darlene, God blessed you with such a creative mind. You never cease to surprise me! A block a month...Genius and I" ll be waiting each month. Even with my poor eyesight [ think I can!💓
Instead of tape try drawing your lines with a ruler and back of a knife blade. Then tape isn’t in your way but you will have straight line. There is a tool you can purchase to make your line.
Thank you for showing that method of knot! I'm 79 years old and have sewn, embroidered, and quilted for over 45 years, and that method is brand new to me!
That style of quilting is called Kantha-very popular in India, It looks awesome!
Another word added to my vocabulary. But that’s a good comment.
Good enough is a very powerful philosophy not many people understand.
Hi always give you a thumbs up at the first of your video. Because I know I would like it and I’m afraid I will forget at the end.
I do the same thing lol
Yes! There is no right or wrong it’s just what makes the crafter happy. Love it!

Best ever. This is a great way to quilt with the heavy thread. First time I have seen this method an love it.❤
I like the long stitch added. I heard from a lot of crafters that it is very relaxing. Omg I have never seen a knot done like that. I will be practicing that one. Lol
I do things my way! I flick that guilt police off my shoulder. If it isn’t perfect then so what! I did it my way 😊
Wow! That looks fantastic!! I have three granddaughters, all age 7. If I start this quilt, they will all want it!! Have SEW much fun, sewing friend!
Agree, very cute!❤
Oh my gosh...all these years I never knew about making those nice close knots with the needle! Great video!
Those long stitches are really quite attractive.
Block looks great... I'm going to try to work on making 2 different quilts with your block of the month series...for my grandkids
I saw a quilt made from work pants and long stitched that way. It almost looked like light weight butcher twine.
Love the block

i think those black knots would make cute cat eyes.
The long stitching is neat, and I like the way you knot it at the back and hide the tail. You explain things so well. 🎉
It looks great!

I like to watch that lady that ties off that way. Love this block. Didn't get the sizes.😊
The sizes were given in the 1st video where I made the block. Check the playlist In the description.
Yay!!! Thank you for teaching us!! I'm only at about 2 minutes and I'm already excited. 😊
Right on Darlene!! This is exactly what I’ve been doing with quilt tops that I’ve made. I’m doing what works for me....❤ I’m all or free spirit...🎉❤
Turned out so good
Do you have any of your backing material for sale? Love your quilt! Actually, I love everything you do!!!

Well done Darlene you gave me a great way to knot with the pin ❤❤😊
Thank you so much for this lesson! I’ve learned so much❣️ Love the knot technique ❤ I like to use painters tape rather than the electrical tape.
Painters tape works great too. Excellent video
I love it! I use perle cotton thread #8 all the time, love the bigger thread.
Sometimes I do slowstiching projects and my stitches are usually crooked yours are perfect

Darlene, God blessed you with such a creative mind. You never cease to surprise me! A block a month...Genius and I" ll be waiting each month. Even with my poor eyesight [ think I can!💓
You could put your square in an embroidery hoop to do your long stitching in ,it would be easier to hold it
Hate hoops. I like it my way but you can do whatever you want.
Yes I want to learn hand sticking thank you.
❤❤ love this !! Tyvm and love having a block of the month 👍🏼👍🏼
Kind of a French knot
Love the print in your shirt❤
I love this! Thank you for sharing!❤❤❤

Love it
You could mark a mark with a marker and it might be better than the tape .
It would have to be a disappearing marker and I don't reall like or trust those, lol. I'm good with the tape.
Thank you love love this
Looks like an upholstery needle
Do some knots on your kitty, and whiskers ❤
I may practice making a chain stitch instead of long. we will see
love this
I like!
🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🌺
I like it !
I love it
Love the backing fabric looks like hidden Mickey Mouse’s
thank you for seam allowance in dimensions
You might like to try sashiko
Take a emery file and pass the needle point. The needle looks to me to not have much if a point. Hope this helps.
I like it dull. Less finger pricks. Just need a needle a bit "thinner" with a bigger eye. And if it's too pointy, then I can file the tip down a bit.
