- Makita sent over the new XGT premium hammerdrill and impact driver kit to review and go over. Let's see what the rest of the world has been talking about with XGT.
Makita XGT 40V tools, the 1st wave, are available for Pre-order now and shipping end of April / beginning of May.
From what I hear, Home Depot will not be selling these in store. It will be available in specialty tool stores and for online purchasing.
What are your thoughts?

Thanks for sharing with us . I’m excited for the bigger rear handle saw blade over 7 1/4 to cut 4x4 in one pass .
I'm trying to decide between Makita XGT and Flex 24v. I'm wanting to get a hammer drill and either a recip saw or a jigsaw. Which brand should I go with? I like the power for the money that Flex gives you, but the Makita stuff is relatively tried and true, and it seems like they've got much better fit n finish.
If you like a compact battery on your impact driver, then 40V may not be a good choice for that. I know I like using a compact battery when I can to drop the weight off the tool and usually with an impact driver they tend to be pretty good on compact batteries. Whereas you need the bigger batteries for big drilling, saw, recip, grinder, etc.
Go with Makita, I just returned all the FLEX stuff I bought. The premium impact driver is heavy and is gave me bit removal issues. I needed to change bits on the fly and spent 30 seconds trying to remove the bit. The quick eject button started to get faulty after two days I really wanted to like them and go with the brand. I was in awe of the battery indicator and color way, but that’s gimmicky. Makita is tried and true.
Makita is all about user experience and finesse, flex is all bout claiming big numbers. Do you really need 500ftlb of loosening torque when you got 350 with the makita?
Makita all day every day . That’s not even a question. Flex is trying to get into the scene by claiming this and that . Makita is proven . This is the first time they come out with a new line since 05 .
@@JesusPerez-ui3yd What Flex stuff did you try out? Did any of their tools stand out at all? Appreciate the heads up on the bit removal!
I see a Flex turbo drill in the background, lets get a head to head so that I can pick from the two drills im considering at the moment.
That is interesting, so while the FLEX is definetly using a rotational sensor for its kick back technology, it appears Makita is somehow tieing there's into the electronic clutch. Must be that it can sense the torque to some extent for the electronic clutch and cut off, so I'm guessing it catch a high torque load that would come in quickly and shutoff the power to avoid tearing a wrist.
That is my thoughts. Looks like I need to test and video. The FLEX, Bosch, DeWalt, Hilti, Milwaukee, Metabo HPT, and Kobalt XTR I can flick the wrist and activate the anti-kickback. This is from memory on all these. I need to test them again.
@@TOOLSbyDesign other brands have anti kick back?
you can’t activate the anti kickback by hitting it while running, but not by flicking your wrist.
The anti kickback seems to work better than hiltis, I got nothing else with anti kickback to compare it against
Looks solid. But man, they can't throw in a 4 Ah battery?!
I *really* hope we get an oscillating tool on this platform. Maybe a router or orbital sander. None on the horizon that I can tell.
These tools are so efficient I wouldn’t want 4ah in this kit. I got the 40v drill, impact, sawzall and rear handle saw. 2x4ah and 1x2.5ah
I most def want more 2.5ah batteries
Not going to lie. I’m kinda waiting for the price to somewhat go down lol
7:01 Haha, you need a fast twisting speed. It is hard to activate the anti-kickback function with one hand. I have never succeeded with one hand🤧 Occasionally success with two hands😳
If I attach the grip, I can easily activate the anti-kickback function😹😹😹
Damn, sometimes I'm bored, so I play with my Makita XGT 40v drill😿

Yeah buddy !!! 👍

...and still no cordless tablesaw.
someone answer this, Why in the world did Makita waste time on a 40 volt and not at least a 60 volt to compete with Dwalt Flex Volt. Why not be super power full like 120 volt bad boy..
Obviously they are competing with all the brands not just one
40v requires 10 cells in parallel while 60v requires 15 cells in parallel making the smaller batteries bulkier while still using old 18650 cells.
It gives you less options for battery capacities and size.
High draw tools are getting 80v by connecting 2 batteries.
There are some other factors where you start swing deminishing returns.
Main reason from moving up in volt is heat and higher amp draw.
A 20v tool can preform just as well as a 40v, but at twice the amp draw it’ll create more heat, heat is inefficient and creates loss/more draw
@@SweetStat funny thing is makita are still using 18650 cells in the 2.5 and 5 ah batteries
@@brettwalkom948 the smallest 60v battery would have been the size of a 7.5ah battery, which I don’t think makita makes. Because it would need 15 cells instead of the 10 in the 5ah or 5 in the 2.5ah
The 40v 2.5 ah has 10 18650 cells and equals 5ah in the 18v lineup.
The 40v 4ah got 10 21700 cells that equals 8ah in the 18v.
Makita doesn’t make 21700 batteries for the 18v simply because it wouldn’t fit in some of their tools
Anyway, the smallest 60v battery would be the size of a regular 18v 2.5ah and 5ah put together. I don’t think you’d want that, I for sure don’t.
The 2.5ah 40v battery is the largest id ever want on an impact
@@SweetStat yeah I know i think I miss understood what you were saying about the 18650 cells.. You meant you can create the same power ish with them by having 40v instead of 18
