    Managed to get an insane deal on an Optiplex MT with 16 gb ram, 250gb ssd for £100 delivered. I put my GTX 1050ti in it and was playing cyberpunk 2077 within 2 hours. I was astonished it ran at all. Most settings are medium but some are low to maintain a stable frame rate.

    It irks me so much that most of these kinds of systems have the upper slot as the x4 and the lower one as the x16 with no room. Meaning you have to take that performance hit if you want a dual slot card which would be the more powerful one.

    Was able to add a 350W PSU to my Optiplex 3010 as the first upgrade, Upgraded CPU from i5-3450-i5-3570K, OC’D to 4.2ghz, Z77 Gigabyte D3H, Crucial MX500 500gb SSD. Luckily the 1650 Super has a TDP of 100w’s and the new PSU comes with a 6 pin. Very excited!

    Best gpu for any dell optiplex sff is the rx 6400 xt low profile.I had it in my old dell optiplex build an it worked really well.

    • @AlmeidaAender
      @AlmeidaAender Місяць тому

      Rx 6400 xt really is the best, but it depends on the type of motherboard. The older Optiplex Sff cards had the Pcie slot further away from the power supply, this allows the installation of more robust cards. However, there are places where the Pcie slot is very close to the power supply, so it is not possible to install stronger cards. In your case, what type of motherboard was it? Thanks.

    if someone is crazy enough to create a pci mounting slot to attach the low profile cards flipped vertically so that you can run a riser to the card in the X16 slot, I think that would be worth it.
    You'd need some screws and a bit of foam to let it hold itself but it would be worth it tbh.

    So here I am watching from New Zealand and you mention MrWhitianga which is also from NZ based on that name. Have a google of "Whitianga" - it's a small coastal town and it's up for debate on how you'd pronounce it. In "native" Maori the 'Wh' would be pronounced 'F', but even here i'd say there's a 80% F and the other 20% say Wh. Random I know, but there's some info on that. Good on that guy for making a video about 4X vs 16X and good on you for this video.

Quick questions, did you have any issues with the psu it comes it or would it be better to upgrade to a 315W psu? And I'll dive through your videos but is there anyone you recommend for RAM upgrades for this model? Thanks!

    The 3020 sff only has a 1x and a 16x PCIE slot so it only supports one slot cards. The best card that will work with the 3020 sff is the rx6400 lp edition. It gives roughly the same speeds as a 1650 but for much cheaper.

      Today I learned that there is such a card as the GT720. I was aware of the ubiquitous and bad GT 730 and also lately learned of the GT 705 but not the GT 720 until now... weird. Why do they make all of these crappy boards? Must be just for extra monitor outputs because they SUCK.
      There's also the nVidia T600 and T1000 but they're workstation cards and quite expensive. I noticed he also didn't test the GT 1030 which is another option (and the one I have atm). But there's plenty of videos about the GT 1030. It needs no introduction.
      I have to agree with you, for this use case and for the money the RX 6400 is as good as it gets. Which is actually kind of sad tbh.
      Too bad nVidia and their board partners don't make a single slot low profile GTX 1650. It seems these manufacturers don't care what the market wants/needs, they just put out whatever crap they want and see if we buy it. Maybe if they actually cared they'd do surveys or something.
      Also screw Dell for putting the PCIe x16 slot in the wrong place on their SFFs. They could do better for their part, too.

    I have the 9010 SFF version of this that was given to me for free. One of the main differences between it and the 9020 is that the x16 slot is the furthest slot from the power supply so it's possible to plug a double wide graphics card into it without mods. The second major difference is that it will only take gen 3 CPUs. I'm using mine as a PLEX server so I don't care. I still have the optical drive for ripping, a 1TB SSD, and a 6TB HDD for main storage.

    I got mine from work after a fire. Cleaned it up, dropped in the 4770s from another fire-damaged PC, and swapped in a 480gb SSD. I'm looking at getting a GPU for this to make it into a small, low-power gaming-capable alternative to my other PC (Ryzen 5, rtx2080, 32gb, etc), but man those low-profile, no power connector GPUs are EXPENSIVE for what they are. Bought an Optiplex 9020 to use as a media PC. Mine came with a 4th gen i7, 32gb ram and a one TB SSD, and I added a second one TB SSD that was collecting dust. Surprised at how snappy the system performs with the GTX 1030 low profile card I pulled from a 12 year old PC the Dell is replacing. It got me thinking just what could I drop in this thing to max out its capabilities. Went with the GTX 1650 from MSI for its 4mb DDR5 vram. Frame rate means more to me than anything. Where the GTX 1030 could do Heaven BM at 720p nicely, the GTX 1650 can do that at 1080p. For giggles I dropped GTA5 on the system. Hey! This thing can peg 60 FSP while on-line on a big TV at 1080p very high settings. Last time I saw GTAV on a TV was on the PS4. This little Dell by comparison is killing it! No problem running some Halo. The things I play work great. Vsync pegged at 60 means the graphics card isn't working too hard and hopefully giving the God know how old power supply a rest too. (Did some video rendering, and shot the CPU temps above 90c. NOPE, not doing that again. And I recommend you do not do that either.) In even moderate gaming temps stay below 50c. Might hit 70c doing intensive gaming. HEY! Long as the Optiplex 9020 lasts??? It kinda rocks for what I paid for it. I love it! Even having a Ryzen 9, 64gbram 3080ti system also. That one? That's not hooked up to my TV. I wouldn't want to do that either because even though the Ryzen 9 system is not that noisy. . . the Dell SFF Opitplex is pretty much silent. And it games! (And I didn't destroy it stress testing the thing within its return period!) This thing might just last the 5 years as a media PC / TV gamer that I'd like to get out of it.

      @@PassportBigBro What's probably most interest to you is I swapped the i7 4770 3.4 for an i7 4790 3.6 GHZ base clock in the 9020 SFF rig. Thermals are very good now. It can actually max all cores and just creep above 80c every now and then. Cause? The heatsink felt loose to me. That'll trash your thermals. It's also possible but I don't think so that the CPU could use some delidding. There's also a low profile RTX A2000 Ampere GPU in the system now. It's quite the little go getter, punching up above it's weight for sure.
      ??? The 4790 non-K came out of a mid tower Dell 9020. A 4790K 4.0 ghz went in that MT case. Thermals are similar to the SFF. You're leaving some potential on the table letting the 4790K boost itself in an Optiplex of all things. It sure works brilliantly though. Stays at about 4.3 GHZ all by itself with the high performance power profile in Windows. It's paired with an RTX 2060. 750 watt PSU. Run Cyberpunk well above 60 FPS at 1080p all day. It does much more than eSports titles. Why? Why not. The 9020 MT cost less than the 9020 SFF as it was mostly spare parts. The 4090K 4.0? I just said what the hell and put that in. It sure works! Buy three 9020 MTs for the cost of one used enthusiast morherboard to OC a 9020K. I'm using both the SFF and MT rigs myself. They're both great and close enough in performance that you might not know which one you were looking at. The mid-tower is better due to options from being able to replace the stock PSU. There are no case swaps here. I like the sleeper look.)

    • @Chris-tf7gi
      @Chris-tf7gi 2 роки тому

      I'll also note I believe the RTX 2060 is a great pairing with the Dell mid-tower i7 4090K 4.0. For anyone who ever wanted a 1080TI on their Haswell box, the RTX 2060 is very comperable to that. Here's that rig. And now . . . I'm considering using a bios hack so this thing will boot off an NVME SSD on a PCI express card. A mid-tower actually DOES have room even with a graphics card. EXCEPT I like the system the way it is now. It's serving as an actual media PC and a center of attention in a home theater. It doesn't need more tweaking.
