this video saves me a lot of pain in the ass work, because i am planning to swap case my optiplex 9020 sff motherboard to a standard gaming pc casing, which in case will not work. Thank you so much for this video and God bless you brother!
Thanks dude. I have gotten the Optiplex 9020 by accident (I bought RAM and the dude just straight up brought this PC with if if I want it for additional 20€, which was kind of an hard blow to me, but it was worth it. It is intended for my girlfriend. Right now she has a PC at my place with Xeon X3470 and with it incompattible MOBO. It just straight up crashes upon logging into Windows. The only fix is to power it down, take out the outside PSU cable, start it with PSU not connected to the grid, then plug it back in and then it starts. I have no clue what is happening there but I just don't want to bother with it anymore. Luckily Optiplex 9020 still uses DDR3 so we can just recycle that, I've gotten the 24 pin adapter already but I will be waiting up until mid July 23 just for the Harbin adapters. Thank you very much for this magnificent video because I would have not realised that DELL is at its proprietary bull*hit again with this. Thanks to you my GF will be able to use this better system for Blender and some gaming. She can't use blender with her dual core laptop now so this is huge for her. If my GF ever sees this comment: Miluju tě a dělám to, protože mi na tobě nejvíc záleží
for the warnings about front io or fans, you have to bridge 2 pins on the usb and hd audio connector, aswell as on the proprietary front panel connector that dell uses simple paperclip is enough or a short wire! ive had dell mainboards complain about hd audio on some cases cause the connector didnt bridge those 2 pins needed by default
You can convert the usb 3.0 into a fuctional 2.0 using an adapter as well, some cases dont have 2.0 usb on the front panel and just use 3.0 so this would be a workaround
That’s a great video. I’ve already uploaded my 9020 with that atx power supply adapter but I didn’t know about the other adapters. Super awesome info! Let’s me get rid of the crap 9020 case and put a nice video card in it.

Only issue is thermal throttling. So, going to have to swap the MOBO into a 3-fan case. (No RGB for me, thanks.)
8:24 great info! Great case swap! Got a hold of a Dell Optiplex 7010, but the case got damaged!! ☹️😡 System still works, but the case & front cover are sorta toast! Has the i7 3770 (S?) 3.4, 8 GB RAM, about 480 - 500 GB HDD, Win 10 Pro. Thank you 🤓 if you take an existing Dell MT (system works) and decide to use another Dell case, also an MT, can you take say, the front mounted USB ports from the working MT, and maybe with a small case mod - if needed - so the USB port panel fits, mount it into the donor case, so the working system keeps its configuration?
Great job. What did you do with the optiplex speaker, if you remember. I noticed that case takes 2 SSDs but what about rotational HDDs. I have two in there.
Thanks for this - Thinking of picking up a 7020 MT and moving it into a case with 4x 3.5” drive bays as a NAS, has anyone else done this, only thing putting me off, does the Dell mobo fit regular screw holes etc on standard cases? Can anyone suggest a budget case with 4 drive bays that would be an easy swap?

as of this comment i have a 9020 and i swapped the case im just waiting for adapters and it didnt start for 10 min after power idk y but works well now
Just watched your video, I am about to swap a 9020 into this case as well. I have a question about the Molex connector on the 120mm fans. Where on the motherboard is this going to be plugged into? Or what adapter would I need to purchase to provide power to them?
I have transplanted 5 of these 9020. The only issue I have run into is in the new case when you turn off the computer. It turns right back on. And yes, I have the appropriate adapters for all the connectors and front IO. I think the 9020 is a better optiplex than the over the 3020. There is a free USB 3.0 on the 9020 that would have worked for your front IO
@substoAttalahRizky the power supply that comes with it is pretty low wattage and doesn't have enough 8 pin plugs for modern GPUs. If you were going to run off the integrated graphics, then yes, you could case swap the power supply with the motherboard. You would eventually have to change the power supply, though, if you upgraded this motherboard to 24 pin power or put a decent graphics card in. Another thing to keep in mind, I believe the cpu power is also only a 4 pin on the power supply.
@substoAttalahRizky If you are running the mini-tower. It comes with a 290 watts for the whole system. The minimum wattage required for a 750ti is 300 watts. The 750 typically runs around 60 watts So it should run fine but your system might crash if you get that card really going. If you have the standard 750ti with a 2 fan cooler it usually won't have an external PCIE plug so really that card won't go over 75watts and should work fine. I was basing all my thoughts on if your card was an EVGA 750Ti SC which is one of the more demanding cards in that category. That 4790 is your biggest variable. On idle its around 40 watts, at heavy load it will bump up around 110 watts. You are leaving around 100 watts left over for the rest of the computer at high CPU GPU power demand. You SSD will pull around 5 to 9 watts. So now lets say 90 watts left over for all your fans, other drives, your motherboard, memory and any USB that pulls its full power load from the USB port. Sounds like you are cutting it close.
I have a precision T3620. I am leaning towards doing a case swap, but it has an intruder connection coming off the section where the GPU resides. How do you bypass that alarm?
@RAVisuals I have a Optiplex 7090 that I use for work. I work from home. My company provided it. I use my own 48 inch 4k oled. The problem I have is that the Optiplex sucks with my monitor. But know how dell is, is it going to flip out if I try to add my own video card.
That would depend on the power supply and motherboard, yes? I know the Optiplex can support some graphics card upgrades, but the standard power supply is not going to be enough for a 3060.

do I need to psu adapter if i was to keep the same power supply from the original dell case?
nope! this is just if you want an aftermarket PSU
I have a newer motherboard on my optiplex7010mt it has a 24 pin socket on the motherboard, super cool!!! upgrading will be easy. it has 16 gigs of ram and a 3770 I7 all i need to do is get a good power supply and 1650 gtx card.
I've just bought and installed a new power supply for my Optiplex 790. Along with a big GTX 980 connected with an extension ribbon. It won't post. Just gives me a "1 3" on the front.
The Montech case link is wrong. Goes to aero cool.
