I do indeed think he is the greatest of all time. it was in a SRV tribute video a bunch of blues players made where BB king said something to an effect of "he was amazing. when i solo i play a little piece here and there and let the melody breath. Steve could channel an hour long solo on the spot i never seen anything like it, it was like he was channeling it it right out of the air."

@@jamesrussell8571 , I'm a huge fan of SRV for sure, that's what brought me here after all (besides being a sub to MrLboyd). What makes him unique, set aside his amazing skills on the guitar, is the unit his playing and vocals compose, I don't know how to put it better, it's like his voice is just another layer on his guitar (or v.v.). Yet I disgust absolutisms, that's why I opposed. There's so much talent out there, on any instrument, many of whom we maybe never hear of (it is easier nowadays though with the internet, in my days it was mainly the industry who decided what I was going to listen...). Just today I ran across a wild young lady from Bali. Indonesians seem to be highly musical folks in gereral, but this girl is fierce. If you don't know her yet, check out Ayu Gusfanz as well...

How cool is that? Before he does get a really big gig going on, play him Stevie Ray talking to the audience, gently imploring young people to leave drugs alone, and not to “...stay too long at the party...it’ll kill ya...”.
Stevie spent the last five or so years clean and sober. Pretty amazing as he was once near death because of d&a...

    • @roymoore3156

@EvilHero check out a young Australian guy named Taj Farrant, or a young British guy named Toby Lee. Joe Bonamassa has had Toby Lee play with his band several times. Neither young man is over 12 I believe. Taj Farrant is the rock & roll version of the bluesy Toby Lee and they are both prodigies and gifted beyond words.

I gave a thumbs up before the Video even started. As a BW who loves music Stevie Ray Vaughan is in the top five of my favorite guitarist. I remember sitting at my desk at work on August 27, 1990 when it came over the radio that he had died in a helicopter crash. He made a big impact in a very short time. Thanks for sharing his music.

Stevie was born (October 3, 1954) and raised in Dallas, but moved to Austin after dropping out of high school in 1972, if I remember correctly. He was self taught (with the inspiration & support of his brother, Jimmie) on the guitar, & despite never learning how to read sheet music, became very good on the guitar pretty quickly. He formed his band (Double Trouble) in ‘78 & they kinda blew up in Texas pretty quickly. In the early 80s, David Bowie heard them at a festival & offered Stevie his first opportunity to play on an album released by a major record company. Soon after, John Hammond heard him & got him & Double Trouble a record deal with Epic Records. They became famous very quickly after that & had a great deal of success until his death in a helicopter crash on August 27th, 1990. A sad event made even sadder (in my opinion, anyway) due to the fact that Stevie had only recently conquered a lifelong battle with drugs and alcohol. He was & is considered the greatest blues guitarist to ever live by many- myself included. When you have greats like Eric Clapton & B.B. King singing your praises like they’re nobodies, it’s kinda hard to argue that kind of statement.

When he recorded in the studio, they would put him on the sound stage, alone, with his amp facing him and a 30' cord...because he had the amp cranked so high, any closer and he would feedback. He would use the physical distance between him and the amp to vary the sound...in addition to his beyond stellar playing

We lost one of the best guitarists of all time when Stevie died. You have to listen to some of his other songs. Would love to see you react to the likes of Voodoo Child, Tightrope and the incredible instrumental, So Excited. He was from Texas, by the way. If you like BB King, you should check out Stevie Ray Vaughan and BB King at the Texas Flood Live. He also has a really intense collaboration with Albert King too.

BTW Once, when asked who was the best blues guitarist he'd ever known, BB King did not hesitate. "Stevie Ray." BB Freakin King

And welcome to the SRV community. 💗 Riviera Paradise is one of the most gorgeous instrumentals you will ever hear. We very sadly lost him in August of 1990. I still remember that day so clearly. Thanks for the video. Good to keep his memory alive.

Stevie was from Oak Cliff Texas a suburb of Dallas then got started in Austin. I suggest Texas Flood at Mocambo. You're jaw will drop but I can't say why. Also Life Without You at Capital in Passaic written for his friend Charley Wirz who was a mentor and helped Stevie in how he designed his guitars and who died of a heart attack. Best vocal, great solo, and beautiful message. This one now doesn't begin to show his talents. Also Little Wing a Jimi Hendrix cover.

Two amazing blues guitar players, and you get to see the admiration and respect SRV has for Albert King, as well as hear some amazing performances. Cold shot, tin pan alley, Texas flood, voodoo chile, scuttle buttin'... there's too many great ones to list
