PDP is often very underrated in the drumming community. Fact is, it's to DW what Squire is to Fender. These drums get DW's approval for release and they stake some of their rep on them. I've played a snare & used a pedal of theirs for over 10 years & they're both rock solid. Well worth the money.
The only thing I'll say is this... the shell construction and hardware are quite nice on these kits. I'd like to qualify my next comment by saying that I bought a used FS series kit, and I believe this became the Concept series, because all of my hardware is virtually identical. With this said... the bearing edges sucked from the factory. Very little care given to insure that the consumer gets a good product. I had to disassemble the entire kit, sand everything flat and recut the edges. Now that this has been done... the drums are quite nice, and should last a good long time. I'd like to think that I got an anomaly, but since these are lower cost drum kits... check yours as soon as you get it, and send it back if the edges are in bad shape. Stuff like this shouldn't get past the quality checks, but apparently it does.
And lest we forget, a phenomenal salesman. He has the voice, personality and flow of words to get a person locked in to what he's saying. He's so gifted, he could sell me beachfront property in AZ. :-D
I save all of the Sweetwater videos under “drum sets” but I should save them under “Nick” because it’s his playing that keeps me watching over and over. Incredible!!!
from 1:40 to 2:08 I dont know where to start. I'm speechless. I know one thing..I'm not the only one who loves to watch nick go off and shred. but he's so precise it's like controlled chaos. the man is a musical genius. and he's got a real set of pipes too. must be nice to be oozing with that much talent out of your pores. it's all so effortless looking from him. just brilliant is all I can say
Nick, I just started to learn to play drums at the age of 54! I've wanted to my whole life. It's always been one of my big regrets. I've always known about great drummers such as Bonham and rich. My favorite kind of drummer is a musical drummer. I can admire drummers with great skills but don't care for the sound of a drummer who just blast your ears with a barrage of notes. I'm so glad I found your very musical drumming videos and Sweetwater. I just bought the pearl road show kit from Sweetwater. I know I will buy much more gear from Sweetwater as I progress. Keep the great videos coming!
Homes, I am 70...dont get it twisted cause I can still play and use technique to offset any age related lack of strength I might have. I love my PDP set and they sound so good I feel young! Strong, smooth tone and I don't have to slug away like Bonham or Buddy Miles to get some sound, which is an advantage for the Senior drummer.
Nick, you need to demo the Chad Smith Pdp signature Acrylic snares and the Eric E Panda Hernandez signature snares. I can't find any good demo of the sounds for the Chad Smith Signature and I'd really like to hear it before I purchase. Thanks for the great videos and drumming man. Rock on Sweetwater!
Felicidades Nick, no soy partidario de dw ni de PDP. Pero tu forma de tocar y tus videos me gustan. Tu performance de entrada está increíble. Felicidades nuevamente y saludos.
I would highly highly highly recommend folks try smooth white Remo emperors on these drums. The most amazing sounding drumhead I have found in my travels with PDP over the years.
I love the way Nick has equipped this PDP kit with Pinstripes, they sound fantastic on it. They may be out of fashion these days but on my own Tama Starclassic Maple kit I regularly swap between a Pinstripe top/ clear Ambassador resonant combination and coated Ambassador X/ coated Ambassador resonants just for a change of sound or if the music requires a different tone. I even use a Pinstripe clear on a mid-1980’s Pearl 6.5x14” Super Gripper maple snare that sounds great for 70’s soul/ funk music. I wish we had a Sweetwater store here in the UK, the drum stores we have are very good but also sadly very few in numbers these days! Keep making great videos Nick, I thoroughly enjoying watching them and being inspired by your magnificent playing.
There is amazing resonance and sustain off of that floor tom, maybe you could mention something about the legs on the floor tom in an upcoming video, because that is like the star of the kit! Really cool retro looking color on that set, it reminds me of the old Rogers finish I think it was called ocean blue.
Great playing and a really nice kit! I'm usually skeptical of the snare drums that come with the drum set, but the snare on this drum set sounds like the sound I'm looking for! Great video!👍
Hi Nick, I'm a friend of Greg Jones and the bassist in his band Pinnacle. While I'm on staycation, I have the rare moment to watch your video. I enjoy watching drummers. (I saw an early Beatles clip yesterday where they were playing live, perhaps 20 bps faster than the recording of the same song. Ringo was screaming... and spot on, of course!) I enjoy watching your demos when I have the time. You started this video with a fab track that has some great time signatures. I notice that you start your demos with some nicely progressive tracks. (At least for the demos I've been able to watch.) What is the source of these tracks? Are they exclusive to your work at Sweetwater or might there be a chance to hear these in some future release? Have you had a magnificent mug of coffee today?
Got my eyes on the PDP Concept maple 6/7 piece.. But. The dealer also offers the TAMA superstar hype drive (not duo) 5 piece... Debating between the two. Would love to hear what you guys think about it.. Thanks 👍
Thanks for the question, James. I don't see that they do on that kit, as it is a special limited edition setup. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Derek Senestraro, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1243
I thought Concept were European Maple.. Not that it matters. These drums sound really nice and Nick always rocks...so does this opening prog rock piece.. smokin.
This is one of the VERY few times I can say the 10" sounds like a tom and not an oatmeal box. I wish the engineers @ PDP would come up with a relatively "normal" looking lug. Nice sounding set.
Great job Nick I've always wondered if Sweetwater drums sales went up since they hired you to demo the kits. Lol, just incredible. I've always been impressed with the PDP line toms and kick sound really good for the price just have trouble tuning the snare, question how did you get that snare to sound that good?
The demo he did on the Sabian xsr series sold me on them ,but I bought them from A.M.S. cause Sweetwater denied me. So to date they've lost out on around 2500$ in gear sales from me. I know that ain't nothing to them but every little bit adds up.

Just did a comparison between this kit and the Tama superstar classic tamo ash finish and the Tama kit imo sounds way better but this kit still has a nice punch to it and love the color finish. Reminds me of my Toyota 4Runner trd pro’s voodoo blue finish lolll
That cool color scheme looks like the Gulf Livery racing colors. Used on Porsche 917's, Ford GT40's and other race cars, there's a long history of that baby blue and orange on some pretty spectacular cars. I think Drums fit right in with that theme. petrolicious.com/articles/what-has-kept-the-gulf-racing-livery-so-special-for-so-long
You're the man Nick, but must have more intermediate and high-end Tama and Mapex porfavor!. Sonar, Ludwig and Yamaha videos won't bum me out either ;-)

Would anyone recommend a good kit for the money. This seems like a good option. I just want something to practice on that sounds good. Guitar is what I mainly play so I’m kinda lacking in knowledge of drums.
Weaponized Jazz Hands any of the pdp maple or birch concept drums are great. I own the maple concept (different color finish than this one) and I love em. But really most of the kits around this price range are good like the pearl decade or the mapex armory. They all sound good but these are the best in my opinion.
sticks45 thank you I’ll look into those. Is it easy just to change out different parts of the kit later on to customize to taste? I’m not thinking anything crazy but stuff like changing different snares, cymbals, etc.... Thank you.
Pdp best entry level kit for the money that there is. The look is professional the sound is mind blowing. Better than anything pearl has Decade/ export Tama superstar classic is not only hideous to look at but sounds like trash. 🗑️
Nick is by far the best drum demo-er on the planet.
I agree, love watching him do these drum reviews. Even if it's something I have no interest in buying :)
that is literally what is just said in my head 10 sec ago
That boy can play!
He has the gift of gab.
I agree

Well of course.

@@todds6048 no.. My pdp sucked. .had to sell it. Will never buy dw products again.
@@todds6048 can you tell me what the dynamita of the edges supposed to be
Don’t pretend like you didn’t just crush that section. This guy.... such a badass.
Even if the kit was trash he would still make them sound freaking good!! Such a good drummer
😀👍🥁
Nick could make cardboard boxes sound good.
Nick just ripped that intro tune. Always funny to hear him go straight into describing the drums from his playing.
Like it's no big deal! Anyways so these drums!.....
Seriously one of the best drummers alive!
😎👍
Thomas Pridgen?? Where?!?!?
And lest we forget, a phenomenal salesman. He has the voice, personality and flow of words to get a person locked in to what he's saying.

God Bless Remo for developing pinstripes
I might switch from ec2s to pin stripes after this demo lol
God bless this Earth for developing my boi Nick
@@heldtlouis2269 ikr
I don't like pinstripes currently on my vintage pearl export, will change soon to coated emperors.
I bet you sales after this demonstration went up 100%
Nick went absolutely beast mode. That was the best demo he has ever done.
I save all of the Sweetwater videos under “drum sets” but I should save them under “Nick” because it’s his playing that keeps me watching over and over. Incredible!!!

This man is indeed a fine player - and very versatile.
These sound good. I still have my pdps. 13 years old now. Still sounding good
Wouah, two minutes of playing along with a tune as an intro... FINALLY !!!
I just realized how dynamic and creative Nick is behind the kit. A true master of the art he has chosen. Keep up the good work Nick and Sweetwater!
Wow!! Nick, you're an awesome drummer. Great set too...
Nick, you are a fantastic drummer. So enjoy listening to you play. And your reviews are so professional. Thank you.

You already got the fundamentals down, James. Reflections like this will you a long way to make you a better drummer, who knows what he's doing!
I love pdp I was waiting for you to review them again so thank you it sounds awesome. The toms are the best sounding I’ve heard
I think Nick really likes this kit
Those toms are some of the best sounding drums ive ever heard, pdp is killing it!
It's the guy behind the drums that make it great. This is insane.
He is a true inspiration in drumming! PDP Concept Series are great sounding drums! I’m very happy with my Pearlescent black kit!! 🙃
Nick, you need to demo the Chad Smith Pdp signature Acrylic snares and the Eric E Panda Hernandez signature snares. wow, that's one of the nicest sounding demos I've heard in a while... and of course, NICK!!
Nick is incredible drummer, one of my favaurite...i've seen all of your demos. Greetings from Argentina😀
Nick inspires me to wanna buy less gear and practice more.
Killersimon
Almost same, but he makes me want to both buy more gear and practice more
Ain't that ironic
Felicidades Nick, no soy partidario de dw ni de PDP. Pero tu forma de tocar y tus videos me gustan. Tu performance de entrada está increíble. Felicidades nuevamente y saludos.
Best drummer on utube for demos. So much respect
Great drumming!
I would highly highly highly recommend folks try smooth white Remo emperors on these drums. The most amazing sounding drumhead I have found in my travels with PDP over the years.
Agreed, I use them on by Concept Birch kit, Remo Coated P3 on the bass drum.
Awesome!!!! Nick for president!!!!

10:46 CLEAN
Go Nick! Looking forward to a compilation album of all your drum demo tracks! ;p
There is amazing resonance and sustain off of that floor tom, maybe you could mention something about the legs on the floor tom in an upcoming video, because that is like the star of the kit!
Really cool retro looking color on that set, it reminds me of the old Rogers finish I think it was called ocean blue.
I wish he would say “Nick d'virgilio here to tell you the dealio” 😂😂😂
That's a gorgeous blue color
Toms sound so good!
I have this kit it sounds great
Vast improvement in sound over the stock heads. Was a good idea visually to put the orange head on the kick.
I like the lugs on these better than DW's larger single style turret lugs, which they took from CAMCO drums when they bought the company.
Alexander Jamieson you don't say...
Just my opinion, but those large CAMCO/DW lugs just don't all that great. Especially on their smaller toms.
I agree. I really like the look of them, they stand out more than the average looking lug also they aren’t too big and not too small.
Great playing and a really nice kit! I'm usually skeptical of the snare drums that come with the drum set, but the snare on this drum set sounds like the sound I'm looking for! Great video!👍
😎👍
Love the rack toms going into the bass drums.

Sweetwater, thank you for answering. I would really like this in a 7 piece kit.
#SweetwaterSound can you tell me what In Ear monitor Nick is using in the video.
Who is PDP? Is that the builders name or are these made by TAYE?made in mexico?
I thought Concept were European Maple.. Not that it matters. These drums sound really nice and Nick always rocks...so does this opening prog rock piece.. smokin.
If a person buys any new pdp kit the very first thing to do is change all the heads to make the kit sound decent just like nick did
I that song it was awesome! And you’re quite the player to!
awesome sound. sounds great in a song with all instruments!!!!
I half come here to check out drums and half to watch Nick play.
This is one of the VERY few times I can say the 10" sounds like a tom and not an oatmeal box. I wish the engineers @ PDP would come up with a relatively "normal" looking lug. Nice sounding set.

I don't know who mixed this or whatever but Next time please bring down the Hi-Hats or the overhead mics and bring the snare up. Please!!!!

Lmao
mike pk666 I like the Bitch concepts a lot
mike pk666 haha yea man you should check em out there good
I love Nick and his playing. I don’t love the PDP peanut lugs.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
The guitars were mixed too loudly over the drums, I could barely make out their tone or sound in the mix, which is why I’m watching the video.
Sweetwater, find a drumset that Nick can't call punchy. That would be difficult I bet. 😉

Little 'Dillinger Escape Plan' vibe, eh?
Cymbals are way louder than the drums in this recording.
That cymbals... Really sing!! #Paiste what?
Paiste 2002 Black
I prefer the toms to be mounted on the kick drum,i don't like the Virgin kick drums, looks tacky to me.
I wish I had gotten this kit it is so sexy and it’s gone now
Great playing but the kit gets lost in the mix. Were here for the kit not the jam...
I like the kit, but I don't like the color orange..
Was the Intro track an actual song? Anyone? 😂
Love the drumming....hate the music. 😖
Nick is amazing as always, but even he couldn't make these shells sound good. Weird.
I need to practice jeeez
Pdp best entry level kit for the money that there is.
The look is professional the sound is mind blowing.
Better than anything pearl has

who TF mixed this
That music is terrible. No offense.😕
2/10 shells have a bad bearing edge. PDP QC sucks.
No thanks.
