Nick is not only a talented and technically extremely proficient drummer, he's also a great presenter explaining the drums as well. Thanks so much for posting!
I've watched a few kit demos on this channel and I gotta say 1. This guy can play. 2. He knows how to tune a kit (r whoever tunes them does a great job) and 3. He does an awesome kit review
I really love to watch all of the videos that Sweetwater Sound put out! I really love to hear Nick play all of the drums that are in their lineup! Great job! The drums sound great!
As I told idrums.com, they have obsoleted drum magazine reviews for me. This video is 10,000 times more informative and valuable than ANY printed review. Nick is the consummate demonstration sales pro.
Nick makes pretty much any drum set sound great, but these drums sound awesome in this review. Also I like that Janes Addiction vibe the music goes into at 9:02.Great Demo as always. Nick is the Man!
I'm digging those Meinl cymbals. 2nd time I've seen Nick use them. I have a Tama Starclassic Performer kit I bought in 2000. Still use it today but just as a practice kit. Tama drums are fantastic and these sound great and you get 7 piece for under 1k. Good deal.
I’ve just got mine (Exotix gloss garnet lacebark pine). It’s incredible. Hardware is a bit cheap but looks and sounds so good that a compromise had to be made somewhere. Even the included snare is damned good.
Just bought this set from Sweetwater in Indigo burst! So impressive! Sweetwater is an amazing company to do business with. Customer service is top notch!
eDARKO-1 How did you buy this in Indigo Burst when they are sold out? I’ve been trying to get this kit in this color for the past two months, but they’ve been sold out.
XcluZiveBeats, when you call in to the customer service rep, you can put down your card number and it will save your place in the inventory line. When it's in, they will ship it to you. I had to wait around 2-3 weeks til Tama shipped more kits to Sweetwater.
Ok cool. I did that with zzsounds as well and just canceled my order out of frustration. They had it listed for June 28th after waiting over a month then on ship date they changed it to coming soon. Tama is really failing their customers. Good thing I love there products otherwise I would of went else where.
That’s an incredible sounding snare. Usually snares that come in a shell pack sound ok. I think at 14X6.5 might be the reason. Nick also plays incredibly well, so it helps. Great value. 🥁
Thank you so much for the awesome, detailed description of everything used, Nick! REally inspiring, especially cause I have Stylus RMX and always looking for sounds and ways to use it. Much appreciated.
Awesome review, brother! Your skill helps sell the kit. I switched from Slingerland to Tama years ago which allows me to move from rock, punk, jazz, latin and all points in between . The hardware has come a looonnnnnggg way as well
They are fantastic! keepers for sure even if you change skins for different sound I would not chuck these. Pretty much every drum set I have owned you have to chuck the stock ones.
@crummyy yes, it will make a noticeable difference. But TUNING will make the biggest difference in sound. You should definitely consider upgrading that snare head. The remo UT ain't bad for stock drum heads, but you will get a different sound if you change the heads. Here is a snare head comparison video on youtube to see which snare head you like most and hear for yourself how Heads affect the sound ua-cam.com/video/qq4SNkt53Q0/v-deo.html
@crummy General numbers, shells are 40% of your sound and heads are 60%, so yes they are very very important but I suggest buying shells that you like first, if you treat them well they'll last forever and even though heads are more important for your sand they are more important if you ever start to play live or record.
4 inner plies maple and 2 inner plies are lacebark pine. These actually sound excellent with the stock heads. I played on some of the toms yesterday at the store and was really impressed. They seemed much better constructed than the Yamaha tour custom kit I was comparing it to.
That kick sounds badass with the hole on the reso side. Love the attack it gives you, great fat punchy sound. Tom's have such a great musical range. I just ordered one of these kits about 3 weeks ago but still have another 3 or 4 weeks too go before I get it in!!! I purchased the Tama 7 piece superstar classic custom in dark indigo burst😁 the anticipation is killing me but I know its worth the wait✌
MrNickDrummer if your referring to the tama imperialstar you are correct. And the snare has a hell of a crack to it. And I must say the superstar classic maple snare doesn't sound as good as the imperialstar poplar snare hmm 🤔
Holy cow - 900 bucks for a drumset this good. Tama did it right and you can't go wrong with it. Those Meinl cymbals do really complement this great Tama kit. For round about $2000 you get a set for every gig you can imagine.
Amazing quality and for the price you'd be insane not to pick it up for a 7pc kit. Only other option for that price range is used starclassics. But im gonna a super star classic for jazz tuning as an alternative to my bubingas. Unless I find some good starclassic maples for the same price.
Yes it is a lot of drum kit for the money that’s why I bought these and yes the snare is great. Better then the more expensive ones that don’t have as much toms or a matching snare but yet are more money .
I have one of these kits...midnight gold sparkle. The only difference with my kit , is I went with a tom line up that reads 10, 12, 14, 16, 18.....I love it.
These drums are amazing for the price point, great kit for gigging and touring. The thin maple shells really resonate but also cut through and the low tuning is beefy and punchy. Throw some better heads on there out of the box and your good to go even though personally I don’t think the stock heads are horrible if you know how to tune but I put some vintage emperors on there and they sound crazy good. For context, my main kit is a Tama starclassic BB hyperdrive, I also have a Tama silverstar as a practice kit I keep at the band spot, and this Tama superstar classic I use for gigging and touring. They can take the abuse of the road cause they are built to last and durable as anything else out there which is what you’d expect from Tama. Can’t complain about anything for the price point. I bought the brushed charcoal finish 4 piece kit for 400 from Dales Drum Shop. Obviously the hardware and feel is nothing like a starclassic but it’s still a great kit for the money. Highly recommend.
I like the bass drum without the hole more deep that way and I don’t like anything in my bass drum .I sit low as well and like to have my rack toms ageled.

Hey Sweetwater! Tama superstar classic are great, but what about the Hyperdrive Superstar Maple? They are less popular, and i am pretty sure that everybody wants to see a video with them!

Too short of a bleed down time
I have this Tama kit and I love it so much but my only complaint is that the floor Tom legs are really short but aside from that I love this kit a lot
YES EXAAAACTLYYYYYYY
You can buy a set of ling leg from companies like Gibraltar and I think Yamaha still makes some too.

Brilliant! I want those drums, and you're demoing them with the same mics I have. Perfect! Well played Sweetwater.

They sound great and I agree, put coated G1 or G2 on them and you have world class sound. Great playing Nick!

this is how a maple kit should sound, the kick just has that thud that hits your right in the chest, it's a beautiful thing. thx Nick.

I like playing the bass drum with no hole in the head and no muffling except for the white ring it’s loud and more boomy sounding that way
